...The American Revolution started in 1775 after the First Continental Congress met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 1774. The First Continental Congress was a meeting of the people of the 13 colonies that wanted independence from King George III. Two of the main people in the First Continental Congress were George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Before the First Continental Congress, the Boston Tea Party happened in 1773. The Boston Tea Party was an act of anger because of the unreasonably high taxes on the tea that king George shipped over to the 13 colonies. In result, the colonists shipped back to Britain and dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor. The colonists received consequences from the King which were called The Intolerable Act. This Act included not having a jury in court. This violated the 5th amendment nowadays. During the First Continental Congress, the people sent a letter to King George III of Britain, asking if they could become their own nation because the King wasn’t protecting their natural rights. The colonists made a plan if the King said no, to meet again in 1775. The King said no and sent over troops because of the Intolerable Act/the letter and the troops were allowed to live in your home and you had to provide them with food and a bedroom. This made the colonists angry...

...purpose of this research is to examine the events and issues surrounding the Boston Tea Party. The intention of the research will be to set the overall order of issues that emerged and establish the political context in which the Tea Party would take place, and then to discuss the impact of the incident on the colonies, that would ultimately lead to the Revolutionary War. Understanding the importance of the Boston Tea Party cannot be obtained without an understanding of the issues and events that preceded it. The Party, which occurred in 1773, had its origins several years earlier, in the wake of the French and Indian War, which ended in 1763. In 1766, Parliament passed the Quartering Act, which provided for "billeting, provisioning and discipline of British forces, requiring colonial assemblies to provide barracks and supplies such as candles, fuel, vinegar, beer and salt for the regulars, costs of the Army in America at the 'dictate' of Parliament" (Tuchman 167). Further to this point, the Seven Years' War was over; why the need for such a large standing army in America? This first Quartering Act was, however, obeyed in general terms, and even partly rescinded as to enforcement (182), until other Parliamentary measures pointed up colonists' feeling of oppression. By 1767, the Stamp Act had been passed, and then revoked in the face of an American boycott of covered goods. In 1767, the Townshend Acts legalized import duties on "glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea." The...

...Iraqi Freedom and several other operations. However, when I left the Service it became clear to me years later that Veterans Affairs weren’t ready to treat our Men and Women coming back from War. So I did some extensive research on how the system may have failed the people it was supposed to serve. And a good example of the system’s failure was the second Fort Hood incident in 2014. Keywords: Veterans Affairs, Fort Hood, Service The Department of Veterans Affairs Information Management System: Serving those that Served The reason why I chose this subject is because it is close to home and it also affects me. After two weeks of this class I wanted to dive deep into information management. I want to know why our system at the Department of Veterans Affairs do not stand ready to serve the Veteran population of our Nation properly. So many Veterans complain about loss or insufficient pensions because the VA hasn’t track them sufficiently. Sitting at Veterans Hospital in Orlando, FL I hear two Vietnam era Veterans talk about not having VA ID Cards. And they have been waiting for it since 2009. I asked them why it took this long, and they said, “The system was backlogged”, or at least that’s what the VA told them and this was back in 2009. So the premise of this paper is really for me to uncover answers to three major Questions that I personally have: 1. How long is the integration process as far as Service Member transitioning from Active Duty to Veteran status in order for their...

What constitutes Pan-Africanism, what one might include in a Pan-African movement often changes according to whether the focus is on politics, ideology, organizations, or culture? Pan-Africanism actually reflects a range of political views. At a basic level, it is a belief that African peoples, both on the African continent and in the Diaspora, share not merely a common history, but a common destiny. This sense of interconnected pasts and futures has taken many forms, especially in the creation of political institutions. One of the earliest manifestations of Pan-Africanism...

...The Purdue OWL: Citation Chart Category General Approach MLA The Modern Language Association (MLA) provides a method for source documentation that is used in most humanities courses. The humanities place emphasis on authorship, so most MLA citation involves recording the author’s name in the physical text. The author’s name is also the first to appear in the “Works Cited” page at the end of an essay. The most recent MLA formatting can be found in the seventh edition of the MLA manual. APA The American Psychological Association (APA) provides a method for source documentation that is used in most social sciences courses. The social sciences place emphasis on the date a work was created, so most APA citation involves recording the date of a particular work in the physical text. The date is usually placed immediately after the author’s name in the “References” page at the end...

...Lewis Morris, the delegate of New York in the Continental Congress, was born on April 8, 1726 in Morrisania, New York. His parents were Lewis Morris and Tryntje Staats. His father was Chief Justice of New York and the governor of New Jersey in his lifetime. Lewis’s oldest noted ancestor is Richard Morris, who was an officer in Cromwell’s Army and later left England and moved to New York where he was granted several acres of land in Westchester County. ...military service. Today, the Veterans Administration has one of the most comprehensive health care systems for military veterans than any other country. In 1930, the US government budgeted over $73,000.00 to take care of the country’s veterans. The fiscal budget for the Veteran’s Administration continues to grow every year. There are several reasons the budget changes every year. First, the continuing number of veterans rises every year. Second, the budget needs to account for inflation and the consumer price index. Finally, Congress and the President may approve new programs that will help service members cope with medical or mental issues. This paper will discuss the history of the VA; budget preparation; constant dollars and current dollars, increasing budget in percentages and dollars the past 20 years; five year fiscal plan; and a conclusion. HISTORY OF THE VA BUDGET The United States has been caring for service members since the early 1600’s; the first law passed stated that disabled soldiers would be supported by the colony. During the Revolutionary War in 1776, the Continental Congress prepared a budget that provided a pension for soldiers who were disabled during the war. In the 19th century, the Nation's budget expanded when veteran’s assistance programs were expanded to include benefits and pensions to a veteran’s widow and...

...advanced because he clearly points out the facts of the Boston Tea Party that many people do not know. There are so many misinterpretations of the event, and he pointed them out with accuracy. II. Literature Review The author is trying to make three specific points regarding misconceptions of the Boston Tea Party, as well as make a few factual points about the event in general. The first myth that Raphael referred to was that the whole event began because of higher taxes on tea. Tea was a major commodity at that time and it is believed by some that the colonist rebelled due to these taxes that were implemented. The truth of the matter is that there was actually a tax break for the colonists. The author states that the issue was not a rise in taxes, but the fact that the colonists had no part in the decision making. The author also corrected the idea that the tea taxes were a heavy burden on the Americans. This was not true because the taxes were only three pence per pound which was not very much at all. The author talks about the Townshed Revenue Act of 1767. This put import taxes on paper, paint, lead, and glass which caused a major uproar amongst the colonists. After many protests and boycotts the British government repealed...

...Airline Research Final ECO 305 My chosen industry for this research paper is the airline industry. The first airline was a German airship that was founded on November 16, 1909. In the mid 19th century Americans attempted to start an airline focusing from New York to California. During this time period airlines were used to carry bags or mails and packages, however Ford Motor Company constructed a plane to carry people and became the first successful to carry 12 passengers. Over the years the airline company has expanded and developed greatly. This research paper will explain this industries elasticity of supply and demand, the negative and positive the industry produces. It will also discuss how wage inequalities are measured, in addition to monetary and/or fiscal policies that have affected the industry. If one takes into consideration that large well-known airline companies such as American Airlines, Delta or Continental were initially the only carrier for customers to fly on then they would be able to set the price that would generate the highest amount of revenue possible. Now what would happen if a start-up airline offers a lower rate or some other benefit? The question of customer preferences now comes into play. Everyone is attempting to save money especially with how the economy is right now, so this no longer is a question of if people will try the new airline, it is a question of how many people will try the new airline? This question could of course...

...Revolutionary War and America’s first president, George Washington. President Washington requested that Congress set aside a ‘secret service fund’ for clandestine and secret activities (Revolutionary Ideas, 2007). After leading the Continental Army during the war, he knew how important it was to have secret agencies analyze and protect the new country. The use of secret agents, counterintelligence, and the clandestine paramilitary, have been used extensively to set up elaborate deceptions, gather sensitive information, and coordinate operations to cause sabotage towards other adversaries or countries that wished to cause us harm throughout the history of our country (Revolutionary Ideas, 2007). Although President Washington set a growing foundation of creating and fostering the need and use of foreign intelligence, it was President Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) that helped combined the efforts of the state and war departments to coordinate efforts on a combined government-wide level (History of the CIA, 2007). The events of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 prompted FDR to make a change to all government intelligence. FDR asked World War I veteran William J. Donovan to draft a new plan for an intelligence service that would combine all those departments’ efforts and make sure they were on the same levels of communication (History of the CIA, 2007). Donovan became the new Coordinator of Information (COI). This was the United States’ first peacetime, non-departmental intelligence...
