...Armando I Cortes Nov. 17. 2025 Mrs.Lisa Smith The Formation of a Star The basic idea of star formation is gravitational collapse – the contraction of a region of gas under the influence of gravity. This is a simple process that would be expected to occur in any region of material dense enough for collisions between atoms to radiate away energy. However, the gas must be dense enough for collisions to occur and the temperature must be low enough for the atomic velocities not to be able to escape the system's gravity, so star formation only occurs in a few areas. The sites of star formation in the galaxy are mostly located within molecular clouds – expansive, cool clouds of mostly hydrogen and helium gas. Molecular clouds are on average too diffuse to contract gravitationally, but within a cloud are regions of locally higher density, which are the sites of active star formation. It is not known exactly what causes molecular clouds and star-forming regions to be distributed as they are. However, it appears to be related to the spiral-arm structure of spiral galaxies, which is thought to be the result of density waves passing through the disk, compressing matter and igniting star formation in their wake, leaving the trails of young, hot, blue stars in their wake that are the primary feature of spiral galaxies. The distribution of gas in these regions is probably erratic enough that once a sufficient compression comes through a large number of separated...

...Slexipedia: Word Formation and Social Use 3.1 Introduction In his publication A Glossary of Netspeak and Textspeak David Crystal blended the two words lexiconand encyclopaediato form lexipedia, a word he used to describe the nature and purpose of his publication as "a cross between a dictionary (lexicon) and an encyclopaedia" (Crystal, 2004: vii). For each term in the glossary there is information one would look up in a dictionary, and the sort of knowledge one would expect to find in an encyclopaedia, such as an etymology of the entry and a hint of its sociolinguistic use. For example: newbie A newcomer to a chatgroup or virtual-world environment, especially one who has not yet learned the way to behave when participating in the dialogue. >>chatgroup; netiquette; virtual world (Crystal, 2004: 79) The coinage of the neologism Slexipedia compounds the acronym SL with lexipedia to provide a term to describe the Second Life-specific lexis in my corpus. In addition to providing a SL glossary according to Crystal's method (Appendix X), this chapter investigates the creative and innovative word-formation processes of SL English and Arabic vocabulary by its residents. Since use of vocabulary reflects identity (Crystal, 2001; Benwell and Stokoe, 2006; Boellstorff, 2008), the final concern of this chapter is the manner in which these SL terms are used in conversational interaction inworld, to reflect the social purposes and circumstances in which these words are...

...Defenders For the defence Rodgers brought in three defenders- Dejan Lovren, Alberto Moreno and Javier Manquillo. Dejan Lovren seemed to excite a lot of Liverpool fans when he signed in the summer. A transfer fee of £20 million after a great season in the successful Southampton side which managed an 8th placed finish. Lovren has made a slow but steady start. He has showed some signs of promise, being tall, strong and winning balls. However there is still signs of that shaky defence from last season with Lovren now in the centre of the chaos as we have already conceded 15 goals in 11 games. This season. Rodgers brought in two Spaniards. Javier Manquillo, a right back, and Alberto Moreno, a left back. Javier Manquillo, who is on loan from Atletico Madrid for the season, looks promising but he is only 20 and still has a lot to learn when it comes to both defending and going forward. Moreno, another young full back at 22, looks good going forward, with a lot of pace and power shown especially with his goal in the 4-0 beating of Spurs at White Hart Lane, however at 22 he can still improve defensively, but with the reds splashing out £12 million from Sevilla on the Spaniard, he really needs to step up, along with the rest of the back four. Midfielders Rodgers brought in three midfielders. These were Emre Can, a central midfielder, Adam Lallana, who can play on the right of midfield or in the number 10 role, and Lazar Markovic who is a winger. The next signing we will come to is...

...From the information I have gathered about the LJB Company. If the company decides to go public new internal control requirements procedures (such as control environment, Risk assessment, Control activities, Information and communication Monitoring), need to be implemented. This is done to not only protect the company from fraud and abuse but also be in accordance with the law. Upon the initial review of the LJB Company the company I have found that the company in general is doing various things well. An activity such as keeping the checks in a locked safe is a good security procedure. It limits access company funds and protects it from theft. Have pre numbered checks in my opinion company is a good procedure as well. I would recommend the purchase of the indelible ink machine used for the purpose of printing checks. Using the indelible ink machine applies to the internal control procedure of using physical control. Using that machine to print checks can undeniably help prevent fraud by someone forging someone else signature Unfortunately in my review of the company I have found activities that the company is participating in that violate standard regulated internal procedures. Giving all employees access to the petty cash is in violation of the establishment of responsibility internal control procedure. That leaves any employee the ability to use petty cash for any means. An accountant that is working for the company is currently the controller and the treasure. This activity...

Standard fire team formations are the wedge (figure 071-326-0501-1), modified wedge (figure 071-326-0501-2), diamond (figure 071-326-0501-3), and file (figure 071-326-0501-4). a. Fire team wedge (figure 071-326-0501-1). This is the basic fire team formation which— (1) Is easy to control. (2) Is flexible. (3) Allows immediate fires in all directions. (4) Offers all round local security. Figure 071-326-0501-1. Fire team wedge STP 21-1-SMCT 18 June 2009 071-326-0501 3-165 Performance Steps b. Fire team modified wedge (figure 071-326-0501-2). When rough terrain, poor visibility, or other factors reduce control of the wedge formation, the sides are closed up to (almost) a single file. When moving in less rugged terrain and control becomes easier, resume your original positions. The modified wedge is also used for extended periods when traveling on roads or trails. The modified wedge— (1) Is easier to control in reduced visibility or rough terrain than are other formations. (2) Offers less flank security than a wedge but more than a file. (3) Masks fires initially to the front and rear for the majority of the team. Figure 071-326-0501-2. Fire team modified wedge c. Fire team diamond (figure 071-326-0501-3). ...The Meaning of Identity: A Brief History The term identity as the dictionary defines it today is almost as new as the sciences devoted to studying it. The definition of the word identity has undergone several transformations since it was first used by European philosophers emerging from the Dark Ages. It wouldn’t be until 1950 that the word would undergo its final stage, the one seen used in psychology textbooks across the world. Erik Erikson’s eight stages of the life cycle gave us its modern meaning. The way the term identity has been used by philosophers in the past has given it definite significance and seriousness. Despite this, its use in relation to the individuality of a person was very casual and lacked depth. Only recently has the term identity come to represent an analytical psychological concept (Gleason, 1983). Before modern social sciences evolved, the term identity was associated with philosophical thought and the ever-present questions about the mind-body connection and the nature of self. The root of the word identity is Latin in origin. The word is “idem” and it means “the same.” The word identity has been found in philosophical texts going back to 1690 with John Locke’s “Essay Concerning Human Understanding” (Gleason, 1983). The term seemed to be used only to describe “self” as the philosophers viewed it. The definition of identity that we have today did not come about until much later and when it did it gave much insight into issues that...

...Character has been defined as “the distinctive mark of an individual.” What that mark is going to be, depends partly upon nature, but largely on environment and training. Children are initiative creatures, but they are also endowed with reason; and character is formed, first, by inculcating ideas of right and wrong in the minds of the young and, secondly, by the exercise on the part of the children of the reasoning power on questions of right and wrong. All men more or less are the architects or builders of their own characters, and, if the structure is to be a fine one, the work must be commenced as early as possible. Character depends upon imitation, tastes, talents and habits. Imitation, in the case of the young child, is instinctive and not connected with reason, but as he grows older he chooses what to imitate. Then is the time for education to step in and point out what is worthy of imitation and what is unworthy, and thus he will learn to select the best models for imitation. Ideals of self-control, courage, benevolence, truthfulness, honesty and purity, should constantly be held up for the admiration of the young. They should be encouraged to read the biographies of great men, that they may be inspired by their example. It is to be remembered, however, that tastes and talents vary, and that children may not develop in the same direction and yet may be developing on right lines. Thus, Benjamin West was inspired by a passion for painting, Mendelssohn lived for...

...Types of Word Formation Processes Compounding Compounding forms a word out of two or more root morphemes. The words are called compounds or compound words. In Linguistics, compounds can be either native or borrowed. Native English roots are typically free morphemes, so that means native compounds are made out of independent words that can occur by themselves. Examples: mailman (composed of free root mail and free root man) mail carrier dog house fireplace fireplug (a regional word for 'fire hydrant') fire hydrant dry run pick-up truck talking-to In Greek and Latin, in contrast to English, roots do not typically stand alone. So compounds are composed of bound roots. Compounds formed in English from borrowed Latin and Greek morphemes preserve this characteristic. Examples include photograph, iatrogenic, and many thousands of other classical words. Note that compounds are written in various ways in English: with a space between the elements; with a hyphen between the elements; or simply with the two roots run together with no separation. The way the word is written does not affect its status as a compound. Over time, the convention for writing compounds can change, usually in the direction from separate words (e.g. clock work), to hyphenated words (clock-work), to one word with no break (clockwork). If you read older literature you might see some compound words that are now written as one word appearing with unfamiliar spaces or hyphens between the components Another...

Lehman, and Rodney M. Donlan at the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, Georgia. The overall purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of pretreating hydrogel-coated catheters with Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteriophages on biofilm formed by P. aeruginosa. in an in vitro model by using bacteriophage virions. In this study bacteriophage virions (M4) which is a member of the family Myoviridae (Fu, Weiling et al.) were used to get rid of the bacteria, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa that are presented on indwelling medical devices....

...What kinds of economic and technological conditions are conducive to the formation of monopolies? In today’s economic climate, several instances of economic and technological conditions have proved conducive to the formation of monopolies or ‘attempted’ monopolies. From television stations to computer applications, the effects of monopolies can be felt by consumers across the globe. One of the most prevalent industries to see the rise and fall, and rise again of monopolies is the telecommunications industry. The Telecommunications Deregulation Act of 1996 was passed to break up the monopoly held by AT&T and to promote competition and lower prices benefitting consumers. In less than 20 years, the telecommunications industry stands on the brink of yet another monopolization by the biggest names in the business. Sprint (who purchased Centel and then Nextel) AT&T (who bought former SBC, BellSouth and Cingular) and Verizon are the big players in the telecommunications industry today, not only in the soon to be obsolete land-line business, but also in cellular communication, broadband, and digital media markets providing services such as digital cable television and on-demand movies. What technological condition has caused this? In a word; innovation. Consumer demand for more convenient ways to communicate with one another, cell phones, reliable networks, instant communications, smaller devices providing bigger services…the list goes on and on. We want more, better, faster…oh...

...A compound word is made when two words are joined to form a new word. Definition In English, words, particularly adjectives and nouns, are combined into compound structures in a variety of ways. And once they are formed, they sometimes metamorphose over time. A common pattern is that two words — fire fly, say — will be joined by a hyphen for a time — fire-fly — and then be joined into one word — firefly. In this respect, a language like German, in which words are happily and immediately linked one to the other, might seem to have an advantage. There is only one sure way to know how to spell compounds in English: use an authoritative dictionary. There are three forms of compound words: the closed form, in which the words are melded together, such as firefly, secondhand, softball, childlike, crosstown, redhead, keyboard, makeup, notebook; the hyphenated form, such as daughter-in-law, master-at-arms, over-the-counter, six-pack, six-year-old, mass-produced; and the open form, such as post office, real estate, middle class, full moon, half sister, attorney general. How a word modified by an adjective — "a little school," "the yellow butter" — is different from a compound word — " a high school," "thepeanut butter" — is a nice and philosophical question. It clearly has something to do with the degree to which the preceding word changes the essential character of the noun, the degree to which the modifier and the noun are inseparable. If you were diagramming a sentence with a...

...Business Formations There are many kinds of business formations available. Each one is distinctly designed to address a business’s specific needs. Business formations generally consist of sole proprietor, partnerships, corporations, and limited liability companies. Corporations and partnerships can be further broken down into what’s known as general partnerships, limited partnerships, C corporations, and S corporations. The key difference is in reporting and accountability. When it comes to a C corporation, the largest shareholder typically owns the entity. Shareholders are accountable for the entity and must be taxed as an entity and individually. In the event of a lawsuit a C corporation's shareholders are protected; only the corporation is held accountable. In case of bankruptcy the shareholders also have limited liability. A dissolution requires a two thirds majority vote in favor of dissolution. Assets are then distributed accordingly. Should there be a dispute the courts typically appoint someone to liquidate the assets. S corporations are much like C corporations, except they reporting and accountability. Instead of the corporation being taxed, the shareholders are taxed individually. S corporations hold the shareholders accountable. Limited Liability Company can be owned by various members. As for accountability, a member’s individual assets are protected. Members report income from the LLC individually. Partnerships are taxed like LLCs, individually. There are...

...Kyle Mason Mr. Patrick Williams English 111.0004 24Jan2016 Identity: The Constituents of Selfhood What is identity? This is a question that organizations, religions and couch doctors have attempted to answer on people’s behalf since the formation of society. Identity is everything, a unique combination of over 10 billion sets of characteristics. No two sets are alike, all are unique. It is one’s framework. It’s these genetic characteristics that an individual identifies as belonging uniquely to them. Identity is a complex notion influenced by internal and external forces. It’s reified by both variable and invariable traits; further influenced by the combined efforts of those around. In short, individuality manifests itself from the convergence of important factors: genetics, adolescent development and cultural influences. All these elements and circumstances combine to form one singularity: identity. Genes, the basic unit of heredity are a combination of nucleic acid and evolutionary black magic. They’re the mechanism behind one’s genesis; the framework on which their identity is fastened. These characteristics are immutable (current technology withstanding). Passed on from one’s biological parents; an homage to their legacy. Subjectively speaking, genetics are profoundly constitutive of self. A person identifies and is identified to a large degree by their phenotypes, or the outward expression of their genes. From eye color to skin color, genes have a profound impact on social...
