Fort Pillow Massacre was the wars worst atrocity against Blacks and it occurred in Tennessee on April 12th, 1864. Confederate troops under the command of Nathan Bedford Forrest Killed 300 black troops and their white commander, after they surrender. Yet, no one was punished during or after the war even though Lincoln established the General Order 11, which threatens to execute southern troops or confine them to hard labor for the “mistreatment of black soldiers by the Confederate forces” (230). However, blacks troops decided to take revenge on their own, so when they the fought in Petersburg a year later, black soldiers murder several confederate prisoners and shouted “ Remember Fort Pillow!” Furthermore, black troops knew that if they were
