Revolution finds its roots in the minds of a select group of often extraordinary individuals. Weaponry, battlefields, and deaths are often mistaken as the revolutionary act itself, when the actual revolution comes from the mind, with conflict arriving after conception as the offspring. Ironically, the offspring nurtures the parent, until the parent has gained enough strength to create a solid foothold in the world. This is how revolution succeeds. The United States of America is one of those few successes among the vast oceans of “Frankenstein” revolutions. Whether he’s bashing a Kardashian, or telling the world the he’s the real Slim Shady, one thing can be certain, which is that Marshal Mathers has a lot to say. Mathers was born October 17th, 1972, in Missouri, with his mom and himself moving to Michigan soon after (Bio, 1). In his songs, Mathers may sound a little hard edged. That edginess and attitude can largely be attributed to his, lack for a better use of the word, sh$*y childhood. Having a father that left him through infancy, Mathers was eager to attempt to reconnect with his runaway dad throughout his young teen years, only to be turned down and ignored by his father (Bio, 1). To make home matters worse, Mathers was often subjected to physical and mental abuse by his mother growing up, which he would later rap about in many of his songs (Bio, 1). Throughout his highschool years, Mathers and his mother were constantly on the move throughout Michigan around the Detroit area, subjecting Marshal to two or three different schools a year (Bio, 1). Often the target of constant bullying, Mathers’ anger eventually boiled over in the form of lyrics, and entered Detroit's underground rap game at about the age of fifteen (Bio, 1).
