One of the most beloved individuals to ever appear on television is Fred Rogers, or as many people know him, Mister Rogers. Aside from his blue sneakers, colorful sweaters, red trolley, and the fact that he was our neighbor, Rogers was a profoundly remarkable individual on and off of set. Throughout his life, Rogers was dedicated to making the world a better place by informing his audience, and the world, of the power of love and caring. His selfless actions and ceaseless kindness expanded beyond Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood and continued into his everyday life. Rogers went out of his way to make sure that individuals recognized their own worth as well as the worth of others. As a result of his extraordinary actions, Rogers is most certainly deserving …show more content…
Rogers sincere kindness and heroism, some believe that he only acted this way for publicity reasons since it was his job. Although being Mr. Rogers was his job, Rogers embodied the values he displayed on the show. In a sense, the character of Mr. Rogers was playing Fred Rogers, rather than the other way around. For instance, his reasoning for going into television was not for a role, but to spread his message. An article about Rogers “sainthood” notes that, “When Rogers decided to pursue a career in television, it wasn’t fame he sought….Television was a perfect vehicle for teaching kids to cope with life’s difficulties and express their feelings, but it was used mostly for mindless entertainment” (Merritt). Rogers never entered television for fame. Instead, he entered television to use it as a medium to spread his positive, inspiring, message. Most of the times we were not watching the character of Mr. Rogers, but we were watching Fred Rogers himself teach us. This not only demonstrates that he was not acting for fame and image, but also demonstrates his heroic traits. Mr. Rogers believed in using television as a tool to spread kindness and important values. Furthermore, rather than look to television for fame, Rogers wanted to help others, not himself, which shows his extreme selflessness. Moreover, this action of going into television for the benefit of children is incredibly inspiring as it shows his kindness and selflessness. Overall, Rogers, despite having …show more content…

This kindness Rogers exhibited was also seen in his numerous selfless acts. Rogers worked to make sure that all of his fans knew their own individual worth by getting to know them, no matter how long it took. As a result of his kindness and selflessness, Rogers created an inspiring legacy that is still remembered to this day. Rogers genuinely wholesome actions still continue to inspire others. Due to his kindness, selflessness, and inspiring life, Rogers can be considered a hero. Digital technology restructured our society and changed the way that we do things. Almost everyone, from the very young to our senior citizens, is learning how to use some form of digital technology. It aims to support us in communicating with others, achieving an education, and succeeding in the workplace. There are countless ways that digital technology is being used both positively and negatively. However, the most commonly shared belief is that the good outweighs the bad. We have to rely on our digital tools and toys that it seems impossible to envision life without them. The advancement in digital technology changed the way people communicate with friends and family, seek job career opportunities, and the foundation of the education system. It is important to realize that many people don’t get to see their family and friends on an everyday basis. For this reason, digital technology is a great source for people to remain in contact with their loved ones. There are many social media sites where people can keep in touch with their family and friends. Several of them are Facebook, Instagram, Skype, Twitter, Tumbler, Foursquare, and Face Time. ...student (Hersey, Blanchard, & Johnson, 2008). The approach to gaining and expanding on knowledge in this area was to use resources such as Hersey, Blanchard, and Johnson’s (2008) text “Management of Organizational Behavior”. As a group of graduate students and aspiring leaders being led by Professor Malcom Beckett, we also used added resources that included current event articles, lectures, class discussions, and case studies to guide us in examining different forms of management and leadership styles and concepts. Most importantly, our approach allowed the students of SM 517 to look at ourselves and begin to determine the type of leaders and managers we currently are, as well as the ones we aim to be. In my decision to write this paper as a final project, I wanted to go beyond looking at the effects of SM 517 on the class as a whole. I decided to examine specifically what I felt...

Theory

...Big Bang Theory - The Premise The Big Bang theory is an effort to explain what happened at the very beginning of our universe. Discoveries in astronomy and physics have shown beyond a reasonable doubt that our universe did in fact have a beginning. Prior to that moment there was nothing; during and after that moment there was something: our universe. The big bang theory is an effort to explain what happened during and after that moment.  According to the standard theory, our universe sprang into existence as "singularity" around 13.7 billion years ago. What is a "singularity" and where does it come from? Well, to be honest, we don't know for sure. Singularities are zones which defy our current understanding of physics. They are thought to exist at the core of "black holes." Black holes are areas of intense gravitational pressure. The pressure is thought to be so intense that finite matter is actually squished into infinite density (a mathematical concept which truly boggles the mind). These zones of infinite density are called "singularities." Our universe is thought to have begun as an infinitesimally small, infinitely hot, infinitely dense, something - a singularity. Where did it come from? We don't know. Why did it appear? We don't know.  After its initial appearance, it apparently inflated (the "Big Bang"), expanded and cooled, going from very, very small and very, very hot, to the size and temperature of our current universe. It continues to expand and cool to this...

Literacy and Technology

...is literacy? Literacy is defined simply as the ability to read and write. This is taught in all classrooms in many different ways from reading books to writing summaries of books. Literacy though, can be taught through technology as well. In today’s world, technology continues to grow at a rapid pace and has therefore opened many opportunities for teaching and learning. Connecting students with digital literacy will allow teachers to support their students’ literacy growth. It is not just about the pencil and paper anymore. When we think about technology we immediately envision a computer, a tablet, or a smartphone but technology is not just those things. Televisions and radios are technology as well and can be used to support children’s literacy development in different ways. There are many different methods and programs that allow us to target all types of students therefore teachers should embrace technology and its many educational uses. This paper will look at how different types of technology can be used to support literacy in a preschool classroom. Why use technology? Using technology in our classrooms will actually help motivate students into learning. The excitement the students get when a laptop or tablet is pulled out is what begins that motivation. Even those children that were not paying attention are suddenly paying attention all because technology was presented to them. “Teaching digital literacy in the classroom is important both in the present...

Tinkham University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia, USA 2010) or ads that ridicule nonusers of the brand (Voss 2009), but these studies researched “humor types” and should be distinguished from humor effects studies in threat persuasion ads. By looking into both the humor and threat persuasion literature, we set out to understand how humorous threat persuasion works in advertising and for whom it may be most effective. Threat persuasion, otherwise known as fear appeal in advertising, deals with critical issues that might have negative consequences for the consumer or the public (e.g., health and environmental issues) (Freimuth et al. 1990). In the ad, threatening information presents the problem, and attitudinal or behavioral suggestions are given as solutions. Threat information is valuable in that it can help protect us from harm but is negative in valence and out of the ordinary in our daily lives. Such substantive yet negative and out-of-the-ordinary information is known to be unpleasant and cognitively arduous to process (e.g., Rozin and Royzman 2001; Schimmack 2005). When humor accompanies threat information, it can...
