Section 1 - Artwork 1 (Cow’s Skull: Red White and Blue) - Question 1:
I personally believe that the artist’s intention was to possibly represent something in particular about her Religion as the shape of the Cow’s Skull is almost like she shape of a crucifix. I think that this artwork without a doubt has at least some sort of reflection on her culture as an American, due to the fact that Georgia O’Keeffe has used blue, red and white and said that she wanted to be known as an American artist, not a female artist mainly because of the way women were viewed by the public, and she didn’t want the public to like her artworks because they felt sorry for her, but because she was truly …show more content…
The main one would probably be the use of colour, tone and how well the artist has blended and also separated colours to create a main focal point, which in this case is the center of the flower. Not just that but also the locations of certain colours, shades and tones which have been purposely put in places for particular reasons. Georgia O’Keeffe has not used very bright colours, however she has used evident colours and different tones and lines in the artwork to create a certain look/theme. She has used a very faint, light grey to blend into the cream/white colour she has used towards the outsides of the flower. O’Keeffe has wisely used light and shade in the leaves around the flower, creating shadow effects to give the complete image a realistic look. In both the flower and the leaves, Georgia O’Keeffe hasn’t used straight lines. I believe the purpose of this would have simply been to create a realistic effect on the photo in general, as if you were to go outside and look at a flower, the lines that divide the petals are not perfectly straight.
