...GoGo squeeZ Applesauce On The Go By: Callan Buck Kristin Clark Melissa Etter Aimee Lindamood Alex Reynolds “It was love at first squeeZ” Secondary Research: INDUSTRY When exploring current trends in the food industry, some observations become clear: the population wants food that is natural and free of artificial ingredients, not only for their children but also themselves, and most importantly they want it while they are on the go. Researchers at the SIAL conference in 2009 concluded that manufacturers are constantly finding innovative ways to include natural, healthy ingredients in their products, with “all-natural” foods becoming a major consumer demand. But is this costly, natural approach impacting consumer-purchasing habits? NERAC Research Firm states that even with economic struggles, “consumers still want a convenient, quick, fresh, healthy, tasty and sophisticated food experience” (Nerac). Interestingly enough, consumers will spend the buck for a healthier eating experience, allowing manufacturers to gain more capital in exchange for fewer ingredients used. In addition, it is apparent that manufacturers are taking advantage of the consumer habit of eating away from home. According to retail-merchandiser.com, consumers are more interested in snacking to get their daily nutrition, and eating fewer full meals. To achieve this on-the-go lifestyle, parents are turning to convenient food pouches. Neil Grimmer, a pioneer of food pouches for toddlers, calls...

...If you are running an airline, surely you will concerned about the five forces which are continuously changing and affecting your organisation. Let is review these forces from a lay-man perspective and not from the academic views: 1. Competitive rivalry – This is the rivalry with other airlines in your existing markets or future markets. Take for example of Malaysia Airlines, it will have to identify and segment its markets first. Probably it will come out with a cross matrix segments of: a. geographical markets b. demography Easy AdSense by Unreal c. Travel purposes. Let view one of the segment, geographical .. for Malaysia. Then we can see straight away the prominent competitor which is Air Asia. The competitor will be one of the considerations for us to develop or strategy. 2. The threat of substitution. Let have a look at the market segment based on travel purposes. So one of the purpose of travelling is for business dealing, like meeting or discussion. With the advance in internet, some of the discussion can be done online, either through video conferencing or the simple chatting. Now we can see the real meaning of the threat to substitution. When the potential customers decided to use video conferencing rather than taking a flight, one ticket sale is lost. 3. Threat on new entrance – Like the case of the two airlines in Malaysia, MAS and Air Asia, there is always possibility that another airline will be formed to service the existing market...

...Case Study: Economic Analysis of Gogo’s In-flight Wi-Fi November 2, 2015 Introduction Gogo pioneered and now dominates the in-flight Wi-Fi business, which allows passengers to access the Internet during their flights. In recent years, consumers have grown from anticipation to dislike towards Gogo’s services due to its steady increase in fees and rapid decrease in speed. Through a dynamic pricing strategy they hope to relieve congestion which indeed have effect, but will not last in the fierce competition of an oligopoly market structure. Unlike its monopolistic position before, Gogo now faces at least three companies—ViaSat, Global Eagle Entertainment, and Panasonic— swiftly eroding its market share with cheaper and faster in-flight Wi-Fi services using satellites instead of antennas. Gogo’s own next-generation technology 2Ku, to come online in 2016, uses satellites that hopefully would achieve better prices with higher speed. To analyze the market for in-flight Wi-Fi and the pricing strategies of Gogo, our paper will discuss five core areas: The price elasticity of demand for Gogo’s service, and how it varies with price levels The market structure Gogo is operating in Its dynamic pricing How the demand for in-flight Wi-Fi has changed over time, technological changes over the past 15-20 years that has affected demand Technological factors that affect supply, how congestion affects pricing and our recommendation Price Elasticity of Demand...

You want me to take it out and spread it out on the ground for you?” “Funny, funny, you get a “C” for being an idiot.” “Then what do you mean?” Sherlock gave the abbreviated piece of nothing the rough edge of his tongue when he said, “Listen turkey. Don’t get your knickers in a twist and all worked up about it! Just put the case down with it open.” “I see your point. Why didn’t you say that in the first place?” “Skip all the questions and just do as I say. I’m the one who have the upper hand here,” said Gogo pointing a .357 at Sherlock. Then the sky lit up in a flame of fire, causing Gogo to look up. Just about that time, he was surrounded and disarmed in one fell swoop. When they were about to handcuff...

...Information Technology Transformation - Airline Industry Introduction Information Technology has changed the way airlines sell their products and services over the last decade. No longer does one have to engage a travel agent to book a flight. Airline branded websites now allow consumers to book a flight online while travel portals such as Expedia, Priceline and Orbitz enable travelers to search airlines’ databases for the lowest fares. This paper will examine how the airline industry is using cost leadership, differentiation, innovation, operational effectiveness, and customer orientation strategies to effectively sell products and services by leveraging information technology. Priceline.com® uses a cost leadership strategy that allows airlines to offer the lowest available fare to consumers through a reverse auction process. For example, a person needs a round trip flight from Atlanta, Georgia to Dallas, Texas departing on November 5, 2010 and returning on November 7, 2010. She is willing to pay $200.00 for the ticket. This information is entered online at Priceline’s website. Priceline searches its database of participating airlines for available seats in this price range and displays them back to the customer. Priceline.com® broadened their low-cost leadership position by eliminating booking fees on airline tickets and offering “Pricedrop Protection on its published-price airfares” (Ek, 2009). In 2003 Delta Airlines launched Song, a low-cost airline that leveraged innovations...

...Case Study 2: Wireless and Mobile Technology By Terry Boone Dr. Stevens CIS 500: Information Systems for Decision Making 5/24/2014 Wireless and mobile technologies have transformed our daily lives, and also made a huge impact on the business world. The definition of the terms wireless and mobile technologies are often used interchangeably; however, this is not the case. Wireless technology is the ability to communicate on the internet via devices without a wire. Mobile technology is the ability to communicate on the internet via wireless and over a wired connection. Mobile technology allow for a user to access the internet anywhere at any time; conversely, wireless technology is only limited to the broadcast area emanating from the router and modem combination. Businesses use wireless and mobile technologies to increase efficiency by saving money on installation costs freeing up funding to be used elsewhere. Businesses can use wireless technology to connect employees throughout building, but still be connected to important software that runs the businesses operations through portable devices. Cell phones, laptops, and tablets in conjunction with wireless technologies have created the possibility for employees to become more powerful. Smaller organizations must maximize the efficiency of workers, so they can compete. Small organizations must ensure that employees are always connected, in addition to not being tied down to a single location (Koose, n.d.). Smart phones...

...Pastiche on Waiting for Godot The Theatre of the Absurd is a style of writing which portrays human life as a meaningless and futile existence resulting in one’s inevitable death. Similar to the Lost Generation movement created as a result of the death and destruction of World War I, the Theatre of the Absurd is a reaction to World War II in which the war survivors felt as though death was inevitable and therefore nothing in one’s existence mattered since material possessions would not travel with one after death. Samuel Beckett’s Waiting For Godot exemplifies the characteristics of the Theatre of the Absurd, not only through its content and dialogue, but also through its language and structure. The structure of dialogue chosen by Beckett, mixes short and concise sentences with meaningful ideas and opinions about the human condition. Although the dialogue appears to be an illogical banter, it would be a mistake to make the assumption that it has no meaning. For instance, throughout the play, Estragon and Vladimir repeat the lines “nothing to be done” and “nothing happens.” Such references along with the cyclical nature of the dialogue, suggest Beckett’s vision that human existence is bleak and that nothing significant ever really happens in our lifetimes, but instead the same situations are repeated throughout life. Beckett’s style revolutionizes the traditional play as he deviates from the orthodox playwright by creating a play with no central plot or storyline. There is no...

...Big Hero 6 (2014) Rotten Tomatoes gave this cute, dark, and tragic story based off a Marvel comic an impressive 89% and it had received praise for it's tear jerking story-telling and a multicultural cast of characters which are said to be the first for any Disney film. In a Rotten Tomatoes review of the Oscar-winning Disney animated take on a complicated Marvel comic, Big Hero 6 has been heavily praised for it's tear-jerking story which was completely different from some of Disney's previous animated films like Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, and The Little Mermaid. This Disney film does not involve princesses and evil royals, but involves a grief-stricken child prodigy and his robot companion. It has also been praised for being plot-twisting, funny, sweet, adorable, and of course, tear jerking. It would go on the win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film in 2015. ...The Witch By Edilberto K. Tiempo When I was twelve years old, I used to go to Libas, about nine kilometers from the town, to visit my favorite uncle, Tio Sabelo, the head teacher of the barrio school there. I like going to Libas because of the many things to eat at my uncle’s house: cane sugar syrup, candied meat of young coconut, corn and rice cakes, ripe jackfruit, guavas from trees growing wild on a hill not far from Tio Sabelo’s house. It was through these visits that I heard many strange stories about Minggay Awok. Awok is the word for witch in southern Leyte. Minggay was known as a witch even beyond Libas, in five outlying sitios, and considering that not uncommonly a man’s nearest neighbor was two or three hills away, her notoriety was wide. Minggay lived in a small, low hut as the back of the creek separating the barrios of Libas and Sinit-an. It squatted like a soaked hen on a steep incline and below it, six or seven meters away, two trails forked, one going to Libas and the other to Mahangin, a mountain sitio. The hut leaned dangerously to the side where the creek water ate away large chunks of earth during the rainy season. It had two small openings, a small door through which Minggay probably had to stoop to pass, and a window about two feet square facing the creek. The window was screened by a frayed jute sacking which fluttered eerily even in the daytime. What she had in the hut nobody seemed to know definitely. One daring fellow who boasted of having gone...

...This Jacques Tiffeau suit is a representative of the late 1960s womens’ fashion. French designer Jacques Tiffeau was born in 1927, and moved to the United States during the late 1940s. The most iconic part of this suit is the zipper presented in the front of the suit and the skirt. It was not until the second half of 1967 did zippers appear frequently in fashion magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar. The “Big Brave Zipper” was introduced during that time and was considered very fashion forward. The “Big Brave Zipper” usually becomes the attention of the garment. The difference part about this suit is that the zipper was not the popular “Big Brave Zipper” of that time, but rather a regulate zipper. Instead of presenting the large silver ring,...
