...should be quite familiar with the term. Even though many professionals are involved in its creation, the director is the one that oversees the entire mise-en-scène and all of its elements. Not just that, but during the early stages of pre-production, the director or his AD sits down with set designers, prop masters, location managers, costume designers, and scenic artists to determine the look and feel intended. In some instances, the mise-en- scène is used to evoke lasting feelings throughout the movie and not just for selected scenes. In the German expressionist film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920), distorted shapes and claustrophobic scenery is implemented to disturb the audience and enhance the horror. Mike Nichols’ The Graduate (1967) has been praised by its amazing, exciting, and multi-layered visual...

...The Graduate – 1st person narrative My name is Benjamin and I’ve just graduated as a teacher. Now I’m home, and I’m waiting for a party. It is because that my parents are proud of me because I’m now able to become a teacher. Actually, I didn’t enjoy the party at all. I had so many things on my mind that I didn’t care about all the guests. I know that they just wanted to congratulate me, but I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I could. You see, now when I’m done with my graduation my life and mind has become very trivial. The days look like each other, and I don’t know what to do anymore, so I have to think about it. I have to think a lot..about everything. I went up to my room to think, but someone suddenly came in of the door. My father had a business partner and it was his wife, Mrs. Robinson, who was there. She wanted me to follow her home, and I felt like i had to do it because she wasn’t sober..at all! I drove her home. As soon as we arrived at her house I wanted to go back home, but she had other plans. She tried to seduce me. She even got bare naked and let me see her. She told me that she was avoidable for me, but I just wanted to go home so I did so. However, after travelling a lot I wanted to see her and have sex with her. So I arranged a meeting with her in a hotel. But because of that I only got problems because I felt in love with Mrs. Robinson’s daughter, Elaine. And I don’t know how to make her mine; because I’ve had sex with her...

...The Graduate The Graduate is 1967 film that was based on a 1963 novel, The Graduate. I have viewed both the screenplay and the trailer of this film. The trailer took important scenes and presented them in such ways that could actually change the plot of the movie in some ways. The trailer combined so many key shots of the film that gives you just enough to engage you emotionally and spark your curiosity. As the trailer begins you immediately hear an asynchronous sound (Sikov, 79) of background music. The song playing is The song of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel (wikipedia.com). The trailer opens up with a long shot of a young man sitting outside in front of a fountain and there’s a flag waving right above him. The camera then cuts to an extreme long high shot to capture the entire landscape of the university and students walking around the campus behind the young man. The next few shots are various close-up shots complied together that shows several people coming up to Ben rubbing his head and hugging him congratulating him on his graduation. You hear a one lady ask him “what are you going to do now?” And his reply was “I was going to go upstairs for a minute”. This showed that he was definitely clueless that the question pertained to his future career. In the first thirty seconds of the trailer you are already aware that the movie is based on a guy named Ben who just graduated college and with only a few spoken words you can derive to the conclusion that he is undecided...

...Graduation Speech It has been a long four years, but here we are, ready to graduate. We worked hard to get to this point, but we did not do it by ourselves. We owe a huge debt of appreciation to our teachers for sharing your talent, knowledge, and time with us. We know it was your job to do it, but you made sure we stayed focused, and reached our goals. You took time to explain assignments, and allowed us to come to your classroom after school for extra help when you could have gone home to spend time with your family. You put in effort to make lessons more interesting so we would not tune out. You demanded excellence from us whether or not we wanted to give it. To our parents, thank you for supporting us in more ways than it is possible to count. You dragged us out of bed each morning, made sure we were fed and clothed for school. You made sure we was out the door on the bus stop on time, or drove us to school yourselves. You helped us with homework, paid our class fees, and listened to our complaints. You commiserated over our daily dramas, but you tried to give us enough space to learn how to work things out for ourselves. To our custodial staff and lunchroom attendants, thank you for keeping our school clean and safe. To our principal, vice principal and all the office staff, thank you for keeping things running smoothly so our teachers could concentrate on us. To our guidance counselors, thank you for listening and trying to keep us on the right track for graduation...

...Mike Nichol’s “The Graduate” A Real Graduate In Mike Nichol’s, “The Graduate” Ben (a shy, antisocial, college graduate) who attended school on the east coast for four years -more than likely to get away from his parents- returns home to his family and a life full of high expectations, confusion, and a love triangle. Most parents who want their children to be successful, ideally, would not want to have full control over their child’s career path. Unfortunately, this is not the case for Ben. The day he came home his parents threw him a graduation party -considering none of his real friends were invited- that was really for Mr. Braddock’s (Ben’s father) friends and business partners to associate. Though, the average 20 year old would be thrilled to receive a car for graduating college (or on any occasion for that matter). When Ben’s parents surprised him with an Alfa Romeo or as his dad’s guests might say “A wop-job” he didn’t seem too excited. After he became irritated with all the bogus compliments about graduating college, he raced up to his room to escape the madness. Thinking he was alone, Mrs. Robinson (one of Mr. Braddock’s business partners) walked into Ben’s room intentionally and exclaimed, “Oh I’m sorry, I thought this was the bathroom.” Afraid of her impeccable presence and his lack of experience with a woman, Ben becomes extremely nervous as she bluntly invited herself to sit on his bed. But her demanding tone of voice and her promiscuous personality was just the first...

...The Graduate Scene Analysis/Review Like literature, film is full of areas which can have deeper meaning than the actions occurring at the moment in the story. The magic of film however is that these actions can be visibly seen and can do this not only with the script but with camera angles, music, sounds, lighting and many other factors that would have to be imagined in a novel. One film that clearly uses this to its advantage is Mike Nichols “The Graduate” which is centered on Benjamin, a young man who finds himself in a love-based dilemma with a woman and her daughter. The film nearly abuses these techniques to create a masterpiece with both a meaningful and enthralling story. One scene that stands out from the rest in the movie is in a montage where Benjamin finds himself drifting in water and making the beast with two backs with the older woman. However, this montage comes to an abrupt stop when Benjamin hears his father’s voice calling to him in a rather upset tone. There is then a cut to a close up on the fathers face, blocking out the sun and giving him a darker more authoritative appearance. This creates the illusion that Benjamin’s father represents the strictness of reality compared to Benjamin’s drifting. And as the upset father talks to Benjamin about the life that he is wasting it becomes apparent that Benjamin’s laid back appearance lacks control when compared to that his father. Another noteworthy scene is after Benjamin buys gifts for Elaine, whose family...

The questions are also created after doing research on finding out the problems or issue that are currently the most prominent when talking about unemployment so that the information gained from the survey would be of great help to access the main problem. The survey is conducted in a shopping mall, specifically in Sunway Pyramid, where a wider scope of audience can be reached. The surveys were then handed out to 10 random people that have graduated or are going to graduate from their higher education. Also, as different types of questions were used for different questions, a greater accuracy of the public's opinion could be obtained. Lastly, the survey questions were created after doing tons of research so that the biggest problem in this issue could be addressed within the questions that the people...
