...Aspen Garcia Period: 4 Pomranka-English 11 December 7, 2012 Is It Getting Out of Hand? Most Americans could say they can’t go a day without texting, checking their email, updating their Facebook/Twitter profile, or getting on the computer to look something up. Today we have every form of technology a person could think of. Cell phones have evolved into something more than just a phone call; they allow people to send text messages, check email, get on the internet, take photos, play games, use GPS, listen to music and so much more. Computers allow people to surf the web, email, access social networking websites, type documents, and explore many new programs. “These advances sometimes have negative consequences, and they have forced heated debates about whether or not humanity was better off before the new technology was introduced” (Technology Gale, online). Technology has become tremendously popular over the last several years. It has begun to take over people’s lives and affect the way they live their daily life in a negative way. People are becoming dependent on the technology and it’s causing people to be lazy. If students are doing research, they don’t hesitate to get on Google to look up what they need. I know for me, it is an easy way to get the answers I need. Instead of coming up with topics and information by getting a textbook or book from the library, they just get it from the internet because it’s quick and easy. Also, Technology makes it easy for people to cheat...

...Protein digestion Protein metabolism denotes the various biochemical processes responsible for the synthesis of proteins and amino acids, and the breakdown of proteins (and other large molecules, too) by catabolism.Dietary proteins are first broken down to individual amino acids by various enzymes and hydrochloric acid present in the gastro-intestinal tract.[1] These amino acids are further broken down to α-keto acids which can be recycled in the body for generation of energy, and production of glucose or fat or other amino acids. This break-down of amino acids to α-keto acids occurs in the liver by a process known as transamination Protein digestion occurs in the stomach and duodenum in which 3 main enzymes, pepsin secreted by the stomach and trypsin and chymotrypsin secreted by the pancreas, break down food proteins into polypeptides that are then broken down by various exopeptidases and dipeptidases into amino acids. The digestive enzymes however are mostly secreted as their inactive precursors, the zymogens. For example, trypsin is secreted by pancreas in the form of trypsinogen, which is activated in the duodenum by enterokinase to form trypsin. Trypsin then cleaves proteins to smaller polypeptides. Protein metabolism is dependent on a vast number of endogenous mediators. These mediators define the balance between anabolic and catabolic processes. Insulin is the major anabolic hormone and also has an important role in amino acid and protein homeostasis. During injury and...

When a guest with a reservation arrives, and there are no inspected to check them in, this feature prioritizes handling those arrivals. Reservations placed on queue can be pre-assigned to a room number, or may be queued with no room assignment. In House Guests The IN HOUSE GUESTS screen allows you to view and modify reservation information and/or profiles of in-house guests. This feature is identical to the SEARCH screen, except that reservation statuses do not list since the guests are in-house). The Rate Info option displays all room rates and a package summary, including taxes, for each night of the guest stay. This is particularly useful when rate changes during their stay. In addition, the totals for room and tax for all nights of the guest stay display in the Grand Total field on the RATE SUMMARY screen. The Register Card feature pre-prints a registration card for the reservation. This option is useful to pre-print the registration card prior to the guest’s arrival. In addition, if the original registration card becomes lost or missing, it is useful to generate a new registration card...

...HAND TEST DR. EDWARD E. WAGNER HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT • The first scientific attempts in relating the hand to personality developed out of the study of the body types (asthenic/thin; atheletic/ muscular; pyknic/ stocky) by Ernst Kretschmer in 1931. o BODY TYPES--- TRAITS( PSYCHOPATHOLOGIES ▪ PYKNIC: friendly ( depressive ▪ ASTHENIC: timid, introverted ( schizophrenic • Charlotte Wolff (1943) studied certain characteristics of the hand and handedness and derived a practical method of the hand interpretation based on the studied characteristic. o The Hand in Psychological Diagnosis (1951) considers the significance of endocrinological dysfunction, its psychological effects and chirological manifestations & outlines how and why the hand reflects temperament and personality. • The first empirical research was a report by Carmichael, Roberts and Wessell (1937) which showed that , to some degree, emotions can be encoded in and decoded from dynamic body movements, gait, and manual gestures. • The Hand Test was originated by E. Wagner in 1958 and was primarily used to differentiate normal from schizophrenic. • In 1962, Bricklin Protowski and Wagner published a monograph with an initial rationale and scoring for the Hand Test. THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK • Hand Test was developed to meet the general criteria for a projective test and also to be easily classified for empirical examination ...

...does that most people don’t realize, and they all mean the same thing. Have you ever wondered what body language you should look for while at a job interview? Have you ever wondered about body language on a date or in an argument? It’s pretty easy to figure out. “Our posture, facial expressions; even the placement of our legs can speak volumes about what we're conveying in the workplace. We can put in hours networking or working late and then blow our image as confident experts by sending a different message with something as simple as a smile.” (Krischer Goodman a40) Body language can be helpful to know the emotions of someone, and when you know someone’s emotions you can generally predict or alter their motive. Knowing these cues can be helpful in situations like a job interview, on a date, or in an argument. When at an interview it can be very stressful to figure out who would be a good applicant to hire for a job. If an applicant and the boss are talking there are a few things that the employer can notice that would be helpful. People will lie to get a job, it happens; let’s say that the boss asks a question about the applicant’s experience, and when answering, the applicant covers part of their face with their hand. They most likely are lying. When people lie they tend to take more time to think of a response and when they do respond they tend to talk faster. Men will make their voice deeper and women will make their voice higher pitched when lying. If the applicant is...

...smile and handshake show welcome ,Waving one's hand is to say"goodbye", nodding the head means agreement, while shaking it means disgreement .Putting up a hand means"May I ask a question?". These gestures are very common and are widespread since they are having the same meanings around the world. However, different countries still have different body languages due to different culture, which will affect the way people communicate. FOR EXAMPLE, In Arab, people often greet by kissing on both cheeks. In Japan people greet by bowing .In the Unite States, people shake hands to show"their greeting". And the gesture of putting a hand on a person' neck is different for Chinese and Americans. For Chinese,it is to say"someone will be killed". For Americans, it means "I'm full, cant eat any more”. And crossing one's legs in the United States is a sign of being relaxed. However in Korea, this is not allowed. In China, people hand everything with both hands to show their respect, but for Muslims, they think the left hand is unclean, so they do not eat or pass something with it. Touch or not touch? Whether or not touching during conversation is acceptable depends on the culture in different countries. For example, the French and Italians love to continually touch as they talk, while the British prefer not to touch at any time unless it's on a sports field in front of a large audience. I did some research on the internet and found out the following touch frequencies per hour in a...

...arm and foot placement—before the actual serve. * The toss: The lifting or throwing of the ball into the air before contact is made. Discussions about the toss usually focus on correct ball positioning, the ideal toss height for each type of serve, and preferred toss techniques. * Contact point: The position of the server’s hand upon the moment of contact. The contact point is significant because it determines the trajectory of the ball. This guide will discuss both basic types of serves in terms of the concepts outlined above because each stage is critical to the successful execution of the serve. The Underhand Serve The underhand serve is a great option for beginning players because it is the easiest of the three types of serves to master. Since every rally begins with a serve, the primary goal of any inexperienced server should be to just put the ball into play. Posture Practicing good underhand serving posture prepares you to be a consistent underhand server and can also prepare you for overhand serving. Here are some serving posture tips to keep in mind: * Feet should be slightly staggered with the foot opposite your hitting arm out in front. * The majority of the server’s body weight should be shifted to the back foot. * Hips should be positioned so they are facing square towards the net. The Toss Though the underhand serve does not...

...the thunk of the blade of his weapon hit the Earth, he sighed. 'Well, guess my clone wasn't enough...Oh well, time for some real fun, oh and let's not forget my snake..' he said as he performed a few handsigns, signaling the snakes mind to know to move from the gecko, as it slithered away, dirt from above the earth crumpled down onto him and into his hair. 'Oh bother,' he said in a Poo bear style,' looks like that fat gecko landed. And I hope he knows he's not the only one with tricks up his sleeve..' he said as he thrusted his arm upward, his hand pushing through the earth. Knowing that it would be hardly visible, he clawed the earth apart, digging himself out. He was wearing the same attire as the clone from before, except it was smeared with grime from underground, and his katana had been upgraded several times from the clones. As his head was able to reach through the earth, he clawed harder and eventually was able to dig himself out. He stood tall, looking at the three Jato's being confused. He chukcled. 'I told you I had many tricks, Jatomaru.' he said as he took a quick glance at the katana his clone had used. He took off his shinobi-like glove with a metallic plate on it, as he bit his thumb with his right fang, smearing a japanese symbol onto the blade. 'Rest, worhty clone, for you did well.' he said, seeming like he actually cared for the clone, which he...

...not ask a lady about the type of guy she likes. This will make her think you’re curious to know if you fit what she’s looking for in a man. Thus, making her think you are interested. 4. Do not talk to her all the time. Don’t call and/or text her every day. This makes it seem like you’re thinking about her all the time, which can be translated into something more. 5. Do not spend one-on-one time with her after a group hangout. This makes a lady think you want to extend your time spent together, which then makes her think you really, really like spending time with her. And that can make her think you have romantic feelings for her. Just go your separate ways after a group hang-out. 6. Do not hold her hand. Just don’t. Sure, friends hold hands but not all the time. You should only hold her hand if you are trying to make her your girl. 7. Do not bring her into your friend group. Letting her know your “boys boys” is a big deal. You may think, “What. I’m just letting her meet my bros.” But she meeting your clique is sending the message that you want her to be deeply involved in your life. 8. Do not suggest meet-the-parents plans with a lady. ...September 28, 2013 Michaelia Henry ID No. 0210073 M.Arch 1 Course: Critical Theories in Architecture Lecturer: Arch. Jacquiann Lawton Critical Theories in Architecture: Modernity Exploring Research Methodology – Writing Dialectical History Thesis Statement Craftsmanship is the basic human impulse to do a job well for its own sake. It involves Creative Thought, Precision, Apprenticeship, Crafting an Object Well, adhering to The Structure of the Workshop and the Practice of the Intelligent Hand. Contemporary Jamaican Woodcraft is an example of Craftsmanship. Introduction Fashioning furniture, doors, windows and other architectural elements out of timber is an old practice. Before the industrial period, many of these items would be crafted by hand. The effort and care taken to create each piece; seen in the final product. This is one way of romanticizing traditional woodwork. A more cynical view would be to criticize the minor imperfections of these pieces – the uneven pattern created by carving by hand, the lack of perfect symmetry in the manmade spindle form. This cynical view has some validity – if; the priority of making the object is the actualization of perfection. Social commentators like Richard Sennett believe this kind of priority misses the true point of Craftsmanship – the desire to do something well for its own sake. I agree. The actualization of Craftsmanship is not about the making a perfect object. It is about the intrinsic need to do a job well for its own sake. There...

...Ben Sexton Cheongmi Shim Interpersonal Communication October 19, 2011 Good and Bad I. Introduction If I had to choose two people who I communicate with the most and know me the best, it is a simple decision. My mother, Karen Sexton, and one of my best friends Cody Woods are two people who I communicate an extreme amount with and are able to really know the strengths and weaknesses of myself. Communication is something that we all take part in every day whether its through voice, facial expressions, hand gestures or symbols, and even pure silence. The level of communication we are at is different from person to person. The purpose of this paper is to find out our level of what we succeed at and what we could use some work on. II. Summary of Interaction The interviewees I have chosen are my mother Karen Sexton and a close friend of mine Cody Woods. My mother I have known for twenty-two years and has been the closest person in my family to me. Cody is a friend I met at college and have known for three years now. Both are extremely close with me and are important to my everyday life so they are obviously two people who I communicate with a lot. The meeting with my mother took place over the phone with her because she is back at home. It was during the evening this past weekend around 9 pm on Sunday. The interview was very laid back and easily initiated. The interview with Cody was completed at my house in the living room and was also a very laid back situation...

...Hi Joan, Thank you for emailing me about your situation. I have some suggestions maybe can help you. One suggestion I think you could talk to Thomas directly. Thomas might not know that the water and soda is only for clients. And may be he not realized how his actions affect you and his position at the company. If you talk to Thomas directly, it won’t affect his position. And after Thomas understands your situation, he maybe not does that again. You just give him a personal warning to avoid other employees to know his actions. On the other hand, you could go directly to Human Resources with this information. After you talking with Human Resources, they could deal with this situation based on the company’s rules. So it will be out of your hands and you won’t have to worry about it. It could be dealt with on a company wide level. Maybe people other than Tomas are doing this. Also it could avoid you have conflict and confrontation with Thomas. In the end, I think you should speak to Thomas directly. First I think you should speak to Thomas directly as a personal suggestion. It cannot effect on the relationship between you and Thomas. Second, if the Human Resources find what Thomas does. It is embarrassed for Thomas when Human Resources talk to him directly. The last reason I think it will leave a bad impression of Thomas in the other employees’ mind. So I think it is has the advantage on both of you and...
