Health is wealth. It is a simple phrase but its wisdom and meaning is very immense and deep. It has a number of different interpretations. One possible interpretation of “health is wealth” is that being free from illness and pain has a richness of its own.

“Health is wealth” might mean that how a person feels mentally and physically ties to the pursuit of goals and dreams. A good example is someone who wants to be a singer or woodwind musician, because these jobs require a person have strong abdominal muscles and an infection-free respiratory system to breathe well. Actors or sports players also need to be free from sickness because their careers depend on the ability to physically move and interact with others. Even temporary goals, such as going to see the ocean, might not be possible if an individual isn’t feeling good. If a person is chronically ill, he might not be able to hold down a job for long. How a person physically feels can limit his income and assets, so health and wealth are always linked and even can be viewed as being the same. To generate income, one has to work and that cannot be done if he or she is ill and is incompetent to do physical activities.

“Health is wealth” is a reminder to take care of oneself. Health is as valued as money. Without it how can one appreciate the beauty of each day and acknowledge the delights that come to even the meekest encounters with family and friends. Health is wealth because without it no one would be able to work productively and therefore, there would be petite chances and opportunities for earning and making money. Without good health, being wealthy in other aspects cannot be appreciated or can become meaningless.

Financially wealthy or owning all of the riches imaginable cannot buy good health. No amount of money can buy back wellness once it is lost. The greatest wealth is health. We should always keep in mind that wealth is wealth however health is the greatest wealth in this world. "When you have your health, you have everything." So begin today to live a healthy life to save and enjoy your wealth.

Structural Violence Analysis

...Wealth inequality creates a system where a CEO of a company is 250 times better off than an office worker in his company. The rich and the top 1%, have the money and the means to control more social aspects of their lives. Their wealth enables them to maintain healthy lifestyles. But these advantages which are only enabled for the wealthy, show that they work at the cost of the health and wealth of the working class. The working class must now work harder to make ends meet, meaning they now have more stress and less of an ability to actually control the other social determinants of health. Epidemiologist Sir Michael Marmot points out that wealth modifies your ability to gain health access, but also creates a personal autonomy for an individual, which is more difficult to meet when one’s wealth is far more highly skewed than another’s/. However, wealth is not the only form of structural violence which affects an individual’s health. As a society, we view biology for the fact that it is pre-set, evidential, and independent of other factors. Our genes are thought to be the leading factor in matters of health, however Unnatural Causes explores all ground of the social determinants of health. We see that certain inequalities including those of wealth, citizenship status, race, location, and diet are all socially shaped to affect our...

Welth and Power in the Us

...Wealth and Power in the US EDWIN SMITH Pol 443 January 6, 2015 KYLE HAGENBURGER Wealth and Power in the US Wealth and Power in the US To whom it may concern: This letter is to inform the public of how health care relates to the distribution and concentration of wealth in the U.S. and support the need to redistribute wealth in America. Wealth refers to the value of everything that a individual and family owns minus all its debts. Most of economists define wealth as marketable assets such as stocks bonds and real estate. In marketable securities, consumer durables like cars are not included because they are not readily converted into cash (Domhoff 2011). Power refers to the ability of controlling the behaviors of others, even against their will. Groups and individuals who have power are able to use it to increase their own interest. It is not necessary that individuals take these benefits at the cost of society. In the Unites States, social class is an arguable issue because there is a disagreement on its models and its existence in the country. Three class model that includes the rich, the middle class and the poor as believed by Americans. Among all the major economies, distribution of income in the United States is most unequal (Domhoff 2010)). The poverty level in the U.S. was $16,036 in 1997 for a family size of four. As with earnings difference, the poverty pace vary significantly between cultural groups. Difference in poverty and earnings has a chief...

Wealth Disparity

...Wealth Disparity: Is Wealth Distribution a Problem? Wealth disparity is a phenomenon between the wealthy and low-income that defines us by our net worth; assets minus liabilities. The accumulation of wealth of the top one percent, can account for nearly forty six percent of global household wealth. In countless articles, it has been proven that the disparities of wealth have affected not only your country, nation, or community, it is affecting everyone, everywhere. The effects of this wide ranged gap of wealth have not been without consequences. By studying families’ income, social backgrounds, age, sex, and racial/ethnic groups, it has been concluded that these consequences have a negative effect on low-income families. The Effects of Wealth Inequality in the U.S.

...Anthony Giovenco Political Science Inequality Paper 12-18-14 The Effects of Wealth Inequality in the United States Wealth inequality in the United States has grown tremendously since 1970. The United States continuously reveals higher rates of inequality as a result of perpetual support for free market capitalism. The high rates of wealth inequality cause the growing financial crisis to persist, lower socio-economic mobility, increase national poverty, and have adverse effects on health and well being. There is no doubt that wealth inequality in America has been escalating quickly; the portion of total income earned by the top one percent has doubled since the beginning of the 1970’s. The wealthy are the main beneficiaries regarding income inequality. In the latest consensus of wealth distribution, the top one percent of Americans owned thirty five percent of the nations private wealth, and the top ten percent took home about fifty percent of all income in 2012. This figure is greater than the bottom 90 percent combined. The question commonly asked concerning this matter: How and why is this becoming so quickly unequal is to be examined. First, we must explain what is meant by the term “wealth.” Wealth is the collection of the assets people own. This includes homes, stocks, savings for pension, and bank accounts, minus all existing debts. The main issue regarding wealth inequality is income inequality. Income equality has grown increasingly in the past 30 years....

Sociological Explanations of Unequal Distributions of Wealth and Income in Contemporary Britain

...Sociology Homework: Examine the sociological explanations of unequal distributions of wealth and income in contemporary Britain (24 marks) There are five main sociological explanations of unequal distributions of wealth and income in contemporary Britain that I will be discussing as well as explaining within this essay. One sociological explanation for the unequal distribution of wealth and income in contemporary Britain is because it is necessary for the maintenance of society. This is argued by functionalists such as Davis and Moore who suggest that inequality in wealth and income is very significant due to the fact that some jobs are seen as more functionally important than others. As well as this, they believe that meritocratic values such as wages need to be imbalanced in order for the most capable people to have the best and highest jobs. A prime example of this would be of road cleaners who would earn about 9,000 a year where as a C.E.O of a computing company earns over millions a year. This links to contemporary Britain because it portrays how income and even wealth is unevenly shared out between proletariats and the bourgeoisie and most importantly it indicates at how low-paid wages would be the result of poverty. This theory can be criticised because it infers to some jobs being more important than others which is not true as every job in society contributes in helping society progress and become better, in this case being a road cleaner would be just as important...

Do Just Societies Provide Universal Medical Care

...because something that is ‘just’ is fair. Therefore, a just society will be fair to every citizen regardless of race/religion/age/health, and provide universal coverage. This universal medical coverage can be provided in a form of minimum level medical care for everyone and any citizen. Providing this type of care to everyone is justice. The justice is providing support for a right of citizens to have health care. Health care is needed to preserve life and liberty. Life is a right that a just society must support. According to philosopher John Rawls, “justice applies to the basic structure of society, and health care is part of that structure” (Rawls). For Rawls, a just society will...
