Therefore it is essential to have a diet which provides the human body with all the essential nutrients in the right amounts as too much or too little of anything could be harmful to ones health. Do you have a nutritious diet? Does your body get all the nutrients it needs to prevent health issues? Are you consuming too little or too many nutrients? Do you have any health problems due to a diet that lacks certain nutrients? Do you believe in health is wealth?

Its main objective is to identify mitigation policies and measures designed to reduce negative effects of poor nutrition on children’s academic performance. Malnutrition remains one of the major obstacles to human well-being affecting all areas of a child's growth and development, including performance in the classroom. The study is grounded in Maslow’s motivational and needs theory. In this study, a qualitative phenomenological case study design was used with focus group discussions, interviews and observations as data collection instruments to twelve (12) grade seven learners, three (3) headmasters and four (4) teachers, purposively sampled in Masvingo province. Findings revealed that malnutrition affected physical growth, cognitive development and it consequently impacts on academic performance, health and survival of learners. Malnutrition also deepens poverty due to increased health care costs. The study also established that hungry and undernourished grade seven learners were not able to take on physical work and sporting activities...

Since children get most of their calorie intake from school lunch and breakfast, schools contribute to their lifelong health and dietary patterns. Schools have to be models for healthy eating habits. Improving school meal program is very crucial in our children nutrition and health. Especially as childhood obesity is a big concern in our nation and it is a cause for many chronic illnesses like type 2 diabetes, blood pressure and high cholesterol. Different studies and researches have shown that school meals are risk factors for childhood obesity. In an effort to stop obesity and the associated health risks, the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act (HHFKA) was signed into law by President Barack Obama to change School Lunch Program (SLNP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP). The Law requires USDA to establish science based nutrition standards for all foods sold in schools during the school day. Poor Nutrition and Cancer Link

...Countless presenters, power points, handouts, and informational breakout sessions are what volunteers of a community relay for life endure for a day. Summit is a place to engage in learning about cancer and the ways it affects us. The prominent speaker of Northwest region Summit this year was a nutritionist. Her presentation was so compelling it helped give me the desire to change my life. The main part of her speech that stood out was how she linked cancer to poor nutrition. In today’s world we are constantly on the go. It is much easier and faster to pick up a big mac, super-sized fry, and large coke at McDonald’s rather than to go home and cook a healthy meal. Adding all this greasy and unhealthy food in our daily diet is putting the dietary chemicals off balance in our system. This allows our bodies to be more suitable to disease and poor health. Along with poor nutrition, lack of daily vitamins, and the absence of physical activity are growing factors in the link between unhealthy bodies and cancer. Going to school fifteen hours a week, working a part time job, and making time for yourself and the ones we love is hard to balance as a college student. Majority of college students gain a significant amount of weight their freshman year due to the inability to balance those things properly. Many times the physical activity is non-exist and unhealthy habits are gained. Without the physical activity our bodies cannot healthily process our circulatory system the correct...

Rikets

...Rickets Human Biology September 17, 2011 Most people know that good nutrition is important for good health. But not many people realize the importance a healthy diet can have on their health and their children’s health for years to come. A good diet helps children grow, develop, and do well in school. It also helps young and older adults to work productively and feel their best. Without a proper diet or a serious lack of nutrition a person is making his or her self susceptible to all sorts of diseases. All people, young and old, need to have a healthy and nutritional diet if they want to avoid the many diseases caused by poor nutrition. One disease young children are at risk for is rickets. Rickets is caused by a vitamin D, calcium, and phosphorus deficiency. Rickets is the softening and weakening of the bones in children. Skeletal deformities and fractures can occur because the bones are so soft and weak. Rickets can also cause dental issues, bone deformities, muscle weaknesses and several other serious health issues (Wagner & Greer, 2008). Rickets is seen in children during periods of rapid physical development because during growth a great deal of vitamin D, phosphorus, and calcium are needed. The predominant cause for rickets is a vitamin D deficiency, but lack of adequate calcium in the diet may also lead to rickets. Although it can occur in adults, the majority of cases occur in children suffering from severe malnutrition, usually resulting from famine or...

Good nutrition – an adequate, well balanced diet combined with regular physical activity – is a cornerstone of good health. Poor nutrition can lead to reduced immunity, increased susceptibility to disease, impaired physical and mental development, and reduced productivity. Concepts of Nutritional Health Food Food is any substances eaten to nourish the body. Food can be solid or liquid and can be taken by mouth, by tube or even directly into the vein. Some people have snacks between meals if they feel hungry and sometimes just because the food is there. Snacks are not necessarily unhealthy.
