...Healthy Vs. Happy As a personal fitness trainer and a woman that has dealt with obesity and depression, I will explain from real life experience the relationship between health and happiness. I will also give examples of research proving how being healthy will help sustain cognitive ability as we grow older, providing a happier more fulfilling life. I was once 225 pounds, my ideal weight is 140 pounds. I would eat anything I wanted, and suffered mentally from my life style choices. I had bouts of depression and was ashamed of how I looked, making my self-esteem plummet. I suffered from headaches which made me very irritable. Than one day something happened that would change my life forever. As I was driving to work one morning, I blacked out. When I regained consciousness, I found myself in a town I did not know, and I had no recollection of driving there. I went to the doctor and was told my blood sugar had dropped very low. After doing some tests he told me I suffered from hypoglycemia; a condition where sugar levels are abnormally low. This is why I was having mood swings, headaches, and blackouts. The doctor told me to I needed eat a healthy diet and lose weight or in time I would end up with diabetes. Research has proven weight has an enormous effect on health by impacting everything from heart disease and stroke to mental issues like anxiety and depression (Witt & Mossler, 2010). Once I was able to take control of my eating habits some wonderful side...

...Travis Hicks Benefits Administration Fixing the Health Care Plan Health care is an asset that is vital for everyone to have in today’s society. Not having health coverage could bring financial drain or ruin to someone who has become ill. Let alone, if you want insurance later, you may not be able to get coverage due to past and current health situations. Also, you may have to pay a higher premium even if you were approved for coverage due to those past and present conditions. Statistically, you are at a higher risk of dying when you do not possess health coverage. With that being said, Wolfman’s employees understand the importance of the health coverage that they possess through their employer. It is important that I help the employer takes the appropriate steps to ensure that the employees will accept the newly designed insurance program and approve of its initiatives. The biggest area of focus is to provide Wolfman’s with a more affordable health care premium while ensuring that the employees will retain an adequate amount of health care coverage. After observing the current plan that is in place, it looks as if Wolfman’s currently uses a fee-for-service method of coverage. It is common that once a deductible is met, the fee-for-service plan will pay a percentage of the bill, usually %80 percent, and you will pay for the other %20 percent. Under a fee-for-service method, doctors and hospitals will get paid for each service that they perform. There are no limitations...

...Composition 1 William Barone August 1, 2013 Healthy vs. Happy Happy with being healthy, or happy with just being plain happy by not wasting your time eating healthier and exercising to be happy. I never imagined that I would be exercising ten minutes a day, and have to cut my portion sizes. Two kids later, I never thought that I would be taking courses at Ashford. Of course you can eat what you want, but what about your body susceptible to illness, like high blood pressure or diabetes. You should be able to find a happy medium between being the two. In this essay I will be talking about how you can be healthy and happy at the same time, and they intertwine creating the happy medium. There is an alarming trend with people seeking out these losing weight quick schemes in order to find a happy medium within themselves. People result in using these fads advertised on TV and in magazines to take the easy way out, or when they are unsuccessful in losing weight the right way. As we mature we find the medium between being healthy, and being happy. For example, getting enough sleep, eating healthier, and exercising, because when you think about it, healthy and happy balance each other out. When you get the recommended amount of sleep every night, which is healthy for you, and when you wake up in the morning you feel energized, happy. A regular exercise program is associated with positive mental health, especially a reduction in stress, depression...

...Every child grows up in a certain kind of environment, with a different set of parents, and deals with diverse situations. From abusive parents, to loving ones, to nuclear, single, or expanded families. As they grow up, some of the experiences they dealt with when they were younger stick with them. If they were abused they may grow up to be abusive parents, and the same goes with having loving parents. That is why getting through Erikson Erikson’s stages of psychosocial development successfully is so important. First, we must deal with the first four stages of childhood. Trust vs. Mistrust, Autonomy vs. Shame & Doubt, Initiative vs. Guilt, and finally Industry vs. Inferiority. Then we deal with Identity vs. Role Confusion, the stage that occurs...

...Ernest Hemingway vs. William Faulkner Unlike any other author the style of writing Ernest Hemingway uses in his stories are short and long sentences, but when a sentence is long it is joined with conjunctions such as and’s, but’s, and because. For example, “In the day time the street was dusty, but at night the dew settled the dust and the old man liked to sit because he was deaf and now at night it was quiet and he felt the difference.” (Hemingway, pg 165) Hemingway’s stories are like reading a speech. In addition, Hemingway does not use any emotions into his writing; his stories are simply and have little meaning to it. His writing is similar to life because in life, you often find yourself given little information and must read between the lines to understand something to figure out what to do next. William Faulkner writing is very different from Hemingway’s way of writing; he uses longer complex sentences in his stories. For example, He could not see the table where the justice sat and before which his father and his father’s enemy (our enemy he thought in that despair: ourn! mine and hisn both! He’s my father) stood, but he could not hear them, the two of them that is, because his father had said no word yet.” (Faulkner, pg 169) Additionally, Faulkner’s sentences interrupts with parenthesis. Unlike Hemingway, Faulkner uses emotions in his writing. A writer might learn from Faulkner’s writing because it has sentence...

Lassiter COM170 August 28, 2012 Christina Wilson Dogs vs. Cats In 1988, a survey was conducted to determine the percentage of pets of the US households at the time owned a pet, compared to the 63 percent of present day households that own a pet, with 45 percent owning more than one pet. (The Pet Set is Roaring Rich and Purring Profits. (2007). Souvenirs, Gifts, & Novelties, 46(5), 108-134). Pets can be a big part of a family’s life. Depending on breed and size basic needs can be very different. Choosing the right breed and type of pet can be time consuming and difficult. This essay will be comparing dogs to cats as pet considering three factors, grooming needs, breeds, and relationships. Having a clean dog is not the only reason for daily grooming. As you comb through your pet's coat to remove surface dirt, you can easily check for those nasty seasonal tagalongs, fleas and ticks. (Moore, A. (2004). Brush Up on Your Grooming Skills. Prevention, 56(8), 176-178). For dogs, Fill the sink or tub with lukewarm water to a depth that just wets your pet's feet and give him time to get used to the water .( Moore, A. (2004). ...What does happiness mean to you? Defining happiness Defining happiness can seem as elusive as achieving it. We want to be happy, and we can say whether we are or not, but can it really be defined, studied and measured? And can we use this learning to become happier? Psychologists say yes, and that there are good reasons for doing so. Positive psychology is “the scientific study of the strengths and virtues that enable individuals and communities to thrive.” These researchers’ work includes studying strengths, positive emotions, resilience, and happiness. Their argument is that only studying psychological disorders gives us just part of the picture of mental health. We will learn more about well-being by studying our strengths and what makes us happy. The hope is that by better understanding human strengths, we can learn new ways to recover from or prevent disorders, and may even learn to become happier. So how do these researchers define happiness? Psychologist Ed Diener, author of Happiness: Unlocking the Mysteries of Psychological Wealth, describes what psychologists call “subjective well-being” as a combination of life satisfaction and having more positive emotions than negative emotions. Martin Seligman, one of the leading researchers in positive psychology and author of Authentic Happiness, describes happiness as having three parts: pleasure, engagement, and meaning. Pleasure is the “feel good” part of happiness. Engagement refers to living a “good life” of work...

...Quality Improvement Project By RM January 2016 Leadership and Management Executive Summary Nursing burnout is serious and in order to ensure that nurses are taken care of, the administration must implement incentives and policies that will provide nurses with the resources to maintain a healthy work life balance. Burnout accounts for many of the medication errors and patient injuries in healthcare facilities. Most nurses are overwhelmed because of the caseload and longer workdays necessary to complete charting. Many nurses are also disgruntled because of denied vacation requests that cannot be approved because of non-coverage. Research has shown that when employees are happy then there are less errors and injuries in the workplace. It’s ironic that nurses care for patients but they don’t feel as though the healthcare facility cares for them. Many things can be done to boost employee morale which in turn will increase the quality of care that the patients receive. Adequate coverage needs to be address and using temporary staffing is a way to fill chronic vacant positions so that float RN’s are available for PTO requests. Insurance credits and consumer discounts can be used as incentives for those employees that practice healthy living activities. Staff meetings held during work hours, discussion boxes, timeout rooms, and partnerships with massage clinics are all changes that can provide stress relief for nurses. These changes are not too costly for...

...Taylor Moskalyk – 500296291 Professor Maurer CGEO 108, Sec. November 27, 2011 “Giving Happiness a Number: A look at Gross National Happiness as an overall strategy” It seems nowadays that the world is moving in one direction, with the west taking the driver’s seat, Europe riding shotgun, and the rest of the world sitting in the back with Africa, the crying infant in need of a diaper change. But there is one Country that seems to be going against the grain; putting greater significance on things humanity seems to forget from time to time, like human well-being and the environment. Sandwiched in between China and India is a small country called Bhutan, a country that takes a different approach when looking at the well-being of its citizens. In 1972, 17 year-old Jigme Singye Wangchuck became the 4th Dragon Emperor of Bhutan, and implemented a new system that structures an economy around the happiness of its population. Gross National Happiness (GNH) is the sadly unorthodox alternative to GDP, based on Buddhist beliefs; it puts value in the happiness, not money when valuing a country. It is the only country in the world that uses this system of measurement. Although this system has the best intentions for the people and its surrounding environment, it is not the best overall strategy because it doesn’t adequately incorporate economic growth, which is very important to a country’s well-being. At first glance it seems like a truly distinct, altruistic approach to GDP but it...

...specifically about McDonalds and their influence on the explosion of child obesity. Additionally, we will examine further a few of the most important questions regarding the case as it relates to the Ronald McDonald mascot, the merits of law that would require warning labels or health messages within the commercials for the corporation, as well as the current attitude towards the rising issue of obesity and the various approaches to solving the problem. Ronald McDonald Vs Joe Camel As the problem of obesity continues to debilitate our youth and contribute to life-threatening illnesses and diseases, it is very easy for stakeholders and consumers such as parents point the finger at Ronald McDonald. The vibrantly dressed corporate mascot most recognized for his iconic clown makeup and big red shoes has recently been compared to that of Joe Camel his extreme opposite in marketing advertisements for Camel cigarettes. Although it is obvious that the two mascots are responsible for marketing completely different products to consumers, some people correlate the similarity in convincing children to buy happy meals in the same manner that Joe Cool sells cigarettes. An article from Adage explains that even though this happy clown’s job is to target children for hamburgers and...

A theoretical perspective: Erik Erikson’s Psychosocial Theory. Chosen perspective’s view on neglect today. Bidirectional effects between your topic and society. III. Conclusion IV. Reference Page Abstract Psychologists agree that our identity form our personalities. Temperament being one of the main markers that each individual family’s parenting style must be adjusted to fit each child’s individual needs. Psychosocial Theory of Erik Erikson must be examined to see which stage deals with molding a young person’s personality, which leads to identity. What challenges do maladjusted children face? How harmful can neglect be to our personality development? The importance of Identity can be dependent on how watchful parents are, and the help our society offers to parents to raising a child (if available). It’s a boy! Well, I didn’t yell like that when my son was born. Mostly because everyone in the room and outside in the waiting room already knew he was a boy. But the excitement and joy experienced were even more pronounced than in any birth you have ever seen on TV, simply because he was my little boy. The overwhelming feeling of love and instinctive bond was immediate and incredible. But mostly I remember the need to protect and the questions...

...the response of celebrities. The article talked about the House of Representatives passing a bill to cut millions in federal funding for women's health care centers. This bill has enraged many people including many Hollywood movie stars. Some of the Hollywood stars speaking out include Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rachel Bilson, Gabrielle Union, Julianne Moore, Dana Delany, Amber Tamblyn, David Eigenberg, Alan Cummings, and Jason Alexander. Even 17-year-old teen sensation and “iCarly” starlet Miranda Cosgrove is not happy with the situation. Former American Idol judge also shared her opinion about the proposed cuts. “I don’t think it’s a good thing to cut those budgets. It’s hard because we are going through a tough time economically, and sometimes they cut money from things that we really need to keep”. Scarlett Johansson was also very outspoken regarding this bill. "The House passed a bill to eliminate our country's family planning program and to stop Planned Parenthood health centers from receiving any federal money to provide life-saving preventative care. That means no money for cervical cancer screenings and breast exams. No money for testing and treatment of STDs, not even testing for HIV. No money for birth control… For many people, especially those with low incomes, Planned Parenthood is their only source of health care.” Quite frankly, I am getting really tired of hearing the opinions of famous people. Just because celebrities have a voice in public doesn’t...
