Introduction

I. We are at higher risk of getting a cardiovascular disease if your male family members like your father or brother has suffered a heart attack before the age of 55, or your female relatives have suffered one before the age of 65. II. The risk is elevated to a 50% chance if both your parents have cardiovascular disease before the age of 55.

Body

I. Heart attacks and strokes are usually acute events and are mainly caused by a blockage that prevents blood from flowing to the heart or brain. A. This occurs most likely because of blockage resulted from blood clots or fat build ups in the coronary arteries (World Health Organization (WHO) ). B. There are many risk factors associated with the coronary heart disease 1. The major risk factors are the tobacco use, alcohol use, high blood pressure (hypertension), high cholesterol, physical inactivity and unhealthy diet (World Heart Federation).

II. There no symptoms of the underlying disease of he blood vessels. A heart attack may be the first warning of underlying disease. Symptoms of the heart attacks include: A. Pain or discomfort in the centre of the chest. B. Pain or discomfort in the arms, the left shoulder, elbows, jaw or back C. In addition the person may experience difficulty in breathing or shortness of breath, feeling sick or vomiting, feeling light-headed or faint, breaking into a cold sweat, and becoming pale. D. Women are more likely to have shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting and back or jaw pain.

III. The prevention and control of the heart attack involves A. Diet. 1. Choose diets that include fruits and vegetables. 2. They are rich antioxidants that can help to combat heart diseases. B. No Smoking. 1. Smoking not only leads to heart diseases but also various other illness like lung cancer, gangrene and to women in pregnancy, miscarriages might occur.

C. Reduce fats and salt. 1. This can reduce the possibility of having high blood pressure (hypertension). D. Exercise. 1. Daily or regular exercise especially walking E. Reduce Stress. 1. Engage in healthy activities that are enjoyable. 2. A stressed mind can lead to a much stressed heart. F. Complete Medical Check-Up. 1. At least do it once or twice a year. 2. It is very necessary to do so, especially if you are 40 years of age and above.

Conclusion

1. Heart attack can happen at any time to anyone at any given age. 2. Malaysians have died because of heart attacks since the 1970’s. 3. By acknowledging the facts on heart attacks, we can take preventive measures and this might save our lives 4. According to World Health Organization, by 2030, almost 23.6 million people will die from Cardio-Vascular Diseases, mainly from heart attack.

This happens when one of the arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle is blocked by an obstruction. There may be pain radiating to the arms or the neck. There may also be shortness of breath, weakness, fatigue, nausea, vomiting and or indigestion. The pain that occurs is the result of heart tissue ischemia (decreased blood supply). The area that is not receiving enough blood is literally crying out for help.
