Introduction: Natural Treatment or Herbal treatment refers to the use of things available in nature, mainly medicinal herbs, for their healing value. It also involves following a natural healthy lifestyle which will help us maintain a vibrant, healthy life. The benefit of Herbal treatment is that they are found to be very effective in healing several serious diseases with almost no harmful side effects. Today I’m going to talk about some Herbal Treatment methods and Home remedies for some of the common diseases, ailments and viruses. I am also going to talk about which herbs to use and how to apply them. I. Herbs Cure Pain A. Herbs treat common diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Diabetes, Asthma and cancer B. Herbs remove common ailments such as sore throat and pink eye C. Herbs attack and get rid of viruses cold and flu II. Herbs are natural A. Herbs don’t have any life threatening side effects B. Sage helps with Al zheimer, upset stomach and heartburn Sage has one of the longest histories of any medicinal herb. In the first century C.E. Greek physician Dioscorides reported that the liquid of sage stopped bleeding of cuts and cleaned ulcers and sores. He also recommended sage juice in warm water to treat cough. A tea made from sage leaves has had a long history of use to treat sore throats and coughs; often by gargling. It was also used by herbalists for rheumatism, excessive bleeding, digestive problems, memory loss, and to dry up a mother's milk when nursing was stopped. Sage was mainly noted for strengthening the nervous system, improving memory, and sharpening the senses. It is thought that Sage is similar to Rosemary in its ability to improve brain function and memory. In a study involving 20 healthy volunteers Sage oil caused indicated improvements in word recall and speed of attention. Other studies has showed that sage help chemical imbalances in the brain that causes symptoms of alzheimer’s diseases. C. Thyme helps with coughing and asthma Thyme has a long history of use in natural medicine in connection with chest and lung problems including coughs, bronchitis, and chest congestion. Only recently, however, have researchers pinpointed some of the components in thyme that bring about its healing effects. Thymol—named after the herb itself—is the primary oil constituent of thyme, and its health-supporting effects are well documented. In studies on aging in rats, thymol has been found to protect and increase the percentage of healthy fats found in cell membranes and other cell structures. In particular, the amount of DHA (docosahexaenoic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid) in brain, kidney, and heart cell membranes was increased after eating supplementation with thyme. In other studies looking more closely at changes in the brains cells themselves, researchers found that the maximum benefits of thyme occurred when the food was introduced very early in the lifecycle of the rats, but was less effective when introduced late in the aging process. D. Chamomile helps with asthma, colic, nausea, relaxation and eye inflammation Chamomile is an age-old medicinal herb known in Egypt, Greece and Rome. Chamomile's popularity grew throughout the Middle Ages when people turned to it as a cure for numerous medical complaints including asthma, colic, fevers, inflammations, nausea, nervous complaints, children's ailments, skin diseases and cancer. As a popular cure, Chamomile has been used for centuries in teas as a mild, relaxing sleep aid, treatment for fevers, colds, stomach ailments, and also helps with eye inflammation and infection E. Ginger helps treating cold, sore throat and reduce pain and fever has been used in folk medicine to treat minor intestinal problems such as gas or stomach cramps. Recent studies may confirm that ginger directly affects the intestinal tract, helping to improve muscle tone and to prevent abnormally rapid and strong intestinal contractions. Results of limited studies in animals with diabetes show that ginger may reduce blood levels of sugar and cholesterol, while also lowering blood pressure. A few small studies have shown that ginger could ease inflammation of the joints and muscle tissue If a person has exercised too much or suffers from arthritis or rheumatism. Ginger has reduced nervousness and helped sore throats return to normal. Studies demonstrate that ginger can lower cholesterol levels by reducing cholesterol absorption in the blood and liver. It may also aid in preventing internal blood clots. New Research! Ginger root was recently the subject of a startling new research report presented at The American Association for Cancer research conference in Phoenix. In the study, ginger actually suppressed cancer cells suggesting that the herb was able to kill the cancer cells. Ginger has been shown to work against skin, ovarian, colon and breast cancer. III. Supplements and Herbs

...LP10 Assignment: Supplements and Herbs After an extensive search on the internet, I was able to locate a few great articles on herbs and suppleents that may help reduce the risk of cancer or heart disease. Although there are a multitude of herbs and supplements that fit into this criteria, I choose to further research oregano, thyme, cilantro, basil, and garlic. Oregano, by many sources, has the highest level of anti-oxidants of all of the dried herbs. Oregano contains Rosmarinic acid that gives it it's strong anti-oxidants. A study from Long Island University, NY, took parts of oregano and added it to prostate cancer cells in a study, amazingly it quickly irradicated them. After just four days, most of the cancer cells were killed and even more strange the tests shows the cancer cells were triggered to kill themselves. The exact recommended dosage of oregano is still being studied, but who knew eating pizza could potentially reduce your risk of getting certain types of cancer. There are countless online sources that suggest that oregano can also help reduce the risk of heart disease, however none of them have much explanation as to why the herb could do so. The only partial explanation is that oregano may help destroy free radicals which are associated with degenerative diseases such as heart disease and cancer. Thyme contains very high levels of anti-oxidants because it also contains high levels of rosmaric acid just as basil. Thyme also contains thymol and carvacrol which...

Fda Should Regulate Herbs

...Herbal Supplements The FDA should regulate herbal supplements as it ensures safety for the consumer. If taken properly, herbal supplements have great benefits. The problem is that there simply is not enough regulation of the herbal supplements. Many herbal supplements can be dangerous if taken incorrectly. What’s worse, people simply do not have enough information about the benefits and risks of herbal supplements. A great example of the lack of regulation is overuse of Ephedra. A while back, people started taking mass amounts of Ephedra in order to lose weight. It ended in a great amount of deaths, causing the FDA to take measures against makers of medicines containing Ephedra. Because it was considered an herbal supplement, it did not have the same scrutiny as synthetic drugs. Herbal supplements can be just as powerful as synthetic drugs, so the same vigilance in regulation should apply. Also, harmful ingredients sometimes end up in herbal supplements, which present an entirely new risk. If herbal supplements were more closely monitored, there would be a better chance of preventing this from happening. Because of the lack of regulation, consumers do not have any assurance that what they are buying is safe. Consumers need that assurance, especially when it comes to health products. There also is not very much awareness about herbal supplements. People do not realize how powerful some herbal supplements are. Many people hold the mistaken belief that herbal supplements...

He later introduced herbs that helped with many home remedies to help alleviate certain body discomforts. For example one of his herbs that his Tampico brand produces is “Cilantro seeds”. The first time I seen this herb was when my wife went out and purchased a pack of it. I asked her what it’s for and she said that its to help relax the irritability of a colic prone infant. I watched her boil one tablespoon of the seeds and when it cools to the infants liking give it to him in a form of a tea. She gave it to my son. I was really thinking oh my god this is not going to work. Too much of my surprise my son within a few minutes was relaxed and was burping up a storm, that night my son had a good night’s sleep. I was leary about her giving my son the tea. She told me that her mother gave it to her and that her grandmother her father’s mother would give...

Essay - the Importance of Medicinal Plants

...The Importance of Plants – Medicinal Plants Plants are the backbone of life on Earth and an essential resource for human well being. Everything humans eat comes directly or indirectly from plants. Plants are the fortitude of all habitats, all wildlife are dependent on plants, except for humans. Plants regulate the water cycle, distributing and purifying water through transpiration. Plants also recycle the air people breathe. They store carbon and regulate the amounts of carbon dioxide and oxygen in the air. Another way plants are significant are that they are used for medicine. Ever since ancient times they have been used to cure disease or strengthen physical health (faculty.ucr.edu). An example being the Egyptians, according to records dating to 1,600 BC, plants such as sage, camomile and sweet basil were believed to cure sore throats and headaches (naturalnews.com). In modern time, plants are still used as a variety of treatments to physical problems of the body. Many conventional drugs originate from plant sources: some of the most effective drugs are plant based, such as aspirin taken from bark of willow and morphine taken from the opium poppy. The roots of rhubarb are used as a tonic and laxative for indigestion. The inner bark of the slippery elm is used to sooth inflamed tissue.
