My unit plan involves interdisciplinary instruction in Social Studies and English. The topic of the unit is the Holocaust. Students will be examining primary sources and novels that details the events of the Holocaust. My community resource would be The Holocaust and Human Rights Education center. I would work with my team to organize an assembly for the English and Social Studies classes. The assembly would include various speakers from the The Holocaust and Human Rights Education center. I would also try to get a survivor to come and speak at the assembly as well. I would prepare lessons, activities, and materials for before, during, and after the assembly.

Before:

1st Activity- Students would be introduced to the topic with a PowerPoint …show more content…
They will begin by reading the Diary of Anne Frank in the stage adaption by Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich. In groups students will be studying an act of the play and re-entacting it for the class. In Social Studies the class will be watching the film version of the book.

3rd Activity- In Social Studies class, the teacher will set up stations around the classroom. Each station will have different bios/ brief stories of survivors of the Holocaust. Students will read them and discuss them with their groups. …show more content…
The students will be doing a stimulation activity. Half of the students will be acting as the jury. The other parts of the class will be reading different bios and summaries of individuals tried at the Nuremberg trials. The Jury will be deciding what accounts to charge them on using one of the four charges used at the trial.

2nd Activity- In English class students will be writing a brief book report on one of the novels or plays they read in class. They can either write a one page summary on the book or create a poster detailing what they read.

3rd Activity- Students will be working on a research project. Students will be working on the project in both English and their Social Studies class. Students will have four choices they can choose to do for the project. They will only be picking one.

Project Choice 1: Create a biography on a survivor. It will include a brief summary of their experience during the Holocaust and what they did after. It should also include a picture.
Project Choice 2: Create a newspaper headline and article about an event during the Holocaust. Should be one page and include quotations and information from other
