...that made the theme more visible to a spectator. Some of the positive aspects of the play included: the acting, the costumes, and the storyline. Although the play had many advantages, there were also disadvantages about the play. Some of the disadvantages were the staging and the acting. The actresses and actors chosen for this play did a wonderful job at portraying their characters. My favorite character to watch during the play was La Senora Condesa, who was played by Gabrielle Bailes. Gabrielle did phenomenal job acting like a snooty and upper class woman. Some of the things she did well were her facial expressions, vocal choice, and body movements. Gabrielle’s facial expressions represented every emotion her character was experiencing in each scene. For example, when she found out her son Carlos, who was played by Jordon Webb, was in love with Julia the expression on her face was anger and disgust. Gabrielle also looked pretentious because she raised her head high, and she had a pinch expression on her face throughout the play. Another thing that Gabrielle did well was her vocal choice. She sounded exactly like a proper women from the 1800s. She had a soft voice, but she was loud enough for everyone in the audience to hear her. I even liked how she changed her accent to fit her character. Gabrielle did not sound like a rude and stuck up twenty year old. Instead she changed her voice to sound like a snobby, forty year old woman. The final thing that Gabrielle did well was...

...character Jess, lives in a Panjabi immigrant community and is not alone in the challenges she faces as she tries to balance her cultural heritage with the western influence that she encounters in the surrounding English community. Jess must deal with the wants and restrictions of her family while trying to be a part of the western culture she is exposed to at the soccer league. I lived the past two years in Hong Kong and I watched my fellow students struggle with the same dilemma. My classmates and friends tried to blend their culture and parental expectations with their own goals and desire to adopt many elements of western society. Nowhere was this more evident than in my acedemic improvement. Chris, a close friend of mine in Hong Kong, went through a similar experience as he tried to pursue a career in acting and yet live up to the expectations of his father who wanted his son to follow him into the family business. He had to juggle the norms of his traditional Chinese parents with his own wants. I moved to Hong Kong two years ago with my family where I attend the Canadian International School. It was quite an experience. We moved into an area where many of the tycoons of China live. All the children who live there attend private school and many are enrolled in the international schools because their parents want them to become more worldly and to be ready for the global society that Asia is fast becoming. For many of the students, they are the first generation...

Sure, He that made us with such large discourse, Looking before and after, gave us not That capability and god-like reason To fust in us unused. Now, whether it be Bestial oblivion, or some craven scruple Of thinking too precisely on the event, A thought which, quarter'd, hath but one part wisdom And ever three parts coward, I do not know Why yet I live to say 'This thing's to do;' Sith I have cause and will and strength and means To do't. Examples gross as earth exhort me: Witness this army of such mass and charge Led by a delicate and tender prince, Whose spirit with divine ambition puff'd Makes mouths at the invisible event, Exposing what is mortal and unsure To all that fortune, death and danger dare, Even for an egg-shell. Rightly to be great Is not to stir without great argument, But greatly to find quarrel in a straw When honour's at the stake. How stand I then, That have a father kill'd, a mother stain'd, Excitements of my reason and my blood, And let all sleep, while, to my shame, I see The imminent death of twenty thousand men, That, for a fantasy and trick of fame, Go to their graves like beds, fight for a plot Whereon the numbers cannot try the cause, Which is not tomb enough and continent To hide the slain? O, from this time forth, My thoughts be bloody...

...Corruption in my Country To start my answer first let’s learn the type of government my country i.e. India has. India is a democratic country and it is governed by the people. People elect their representative of parliament. It has been 69 years India got independence. Today after almost seven decades one of the prime issues the whole nation faces is ‘corruption’. India is a diverse country with variance in religion, language, areas. These factors make difficult to handle various issues. Indian population considers it as a plague to the nation. This plague has spread so wide that individuals had to transfer the black money into Swiss bank to secure the black money. India is considered to be a developing question or third world nation according to United Nations. The technological advancement has been very slow, System is not transparent and which makes things unfair and most of the time person in power has authority to take advantage of his credentials which leads to corruption. Government services are one of the major areas of concern. Government services like Police station, DMV offices, Passport offices and almost all of them practice some kind of corruption. But due to privatization the corruption has been reduced during recent times. Globalization of data has also helped reducing corruption up to large intent. Government is acting proactively against corruption. Different schemes are implemented to make systems transparent. If someone is held accountable to corruption strict...

...An actor that I look up to massively named Alan Rickman once said “actors are agents of change. A film, a piece of theatre, a piece of music, or a book can make a difference. It could change the world.” I firmly support this statement because I believe performing arts is special. Art in any form has an effect on everybody, whether it be a romantic musical, a beautiful painting, or a touching monologue it tells a story. Actors tell stories through their emotions and make an audience member forget about their everyday life by bringing them to another world in the story they are telling on stage or on the big screen. However, being an actress has always been a dream of mine. In Mark Twain’s “Life on the Mississippi” he shares his struggle with having dreams and ambitions, and in the end he picks...

...sense, an antagonist along with the element of homosexuality. The protagonists aims to just live life off before Asa came along. The conflict starts when Asa was purchased as a slave, through numerous twist and turns including Jack lusts for Lily whom only likes Sonny, and Asa being a rebellious which caused trouble for Sonny, the play was able to develop into something far more different than expected. We, as audiences were able to see the build up of tensions and suspense that would spring up during this short play. Bonded by Donald Jolly had a very clear message in this short play. The playwright wanted us to see the taboo of homosexuality during the old slavery days. From today you can relate that homosexuality is not quite as accepted even though we are more open minded than in the 1820s. We can assume that homosexuality was even more criticized and hated than today. At least homosexuality is more tolerated than today, so I can't really imagine what it would be like for homosexuals in the past. Sonny and Asa portrays that quarrel and hatreds can into mutual attraction which shows the hidden message that homosexuality shouldn't be despised as long as there is no harm to anyone else, people should be free to express their feelings which is ironic in a way because Jolly used slaves to portray this free feeling when slaves are anything but free. In a way this also relates to life because there will always be a sort of triangle relationship, someone will always be left out because...

...book/movie A Raisin in the Sun. They were both very good in different ways. But they did have many differences. In the movie the characters developed different. Walter was mean and nasty in the beginning of the movie. As it went on you could see the change in heart. He became more sweet and caring. He started acting different and everyone could tell. Now Ruth was aggravated and tired in the beginning, and she became more relived towards the end. She was happy about her new life and how much her life changed. Mama was very sad because of the loss of her husband, Walter Lee Sir, in the beginning. As the movie continues she becomes happier knowing that he is now in peace and things are looking up for their family. Now don’t even get me started on Bennie, disrespectful and very annoying. Her heart changes a little towards the end though. She becomes kinder to Walter in particular. Everybody will have different opinions on the acting in the movie. In my mind it was horrible. There is one scene in particular that made me think this. When Ruth fainted it looked so unreal, good actors learn to master things like that. Also the emotions they showed were portrayed badly. They didn’t know how to really show what the characters were portraying. When actors and actresses have that ability people can really feel what role they are trying to play. The book and the movie have many differences. The book focuses more on the plant and the one window then the movie does. Also the fact that in the...

...had happened on that island, so many bad things that I cannot get out of my mind. No matter how much I try to forget about it I just keep reliving what had gone on. I need your help; I don’t know how long I can go on like this. I learned a lot about myself and others, sadly I don’t know if I like it. When the plane crashed on the island I thought I was with the most able bodied kids to help all of us survive. We were all from a higher end academy and had vast knowledge in miscellaneous subjects. Also, we were probably the most mature kids for are age, coming from the U.K of course. Yet, I was wretchedly wrong. One thing I found out about those kids is that naturally humans are savages. Another boy on the island, Simon, was viciously murdered because we were all dancing and in the moment and acting wild. Looking back on this event I don’t remember much of what went on except the fact that we killed an innocent boy just because we were dancing and having fun. That was not the only time I saw savagery. It happened when Jack and his hunters killed the sow. They didn’t just kill a pig for food, the vindictively and ruthlessly murdered a pig. The kill of the pig seemed as if to give them a high. The hunters were in awe of the fact that they could dominate another animal and that they held the pigs life in their hands. They chose if it got to live or die. It makes it hard to sleep. When I close my eyes at night I just see faces; faces of Piggy, Simon, the sow, and even...

...day regarding appropriate behaviors and how to live ethically. Including children in daily activities, routines and specific lessons pertaining to ethical living can increase the overall morality of their upbringing. Children learn most through watching, hearing and participating in what goes on in their environment. Maintain awareness of your own behaviors and the example you set for children, whether your own or your students. The priorities and principles that you instill in your own daily life are being passed on to your child simply through unconscious integration. If you prioritize family time, following through with obligations and community responsibility in your own life, children are likely to follow in your footsteps. Cultivating an attitude based on mutual respect and compassion for others will be translated to children through your own actions. Children respond well to having concise and consistent expectations incorporated in their environment. By setting limits and structuring children's daily activities in a predictable way, you can more easily instill positive values. Establish routines, set boundaries and employ logical consequences for behaviors and choices. Teach children that their choices reflect on personal character. Always maintain consistency with expectations and follow through with uniform consequences. This will help children develop a more keen awareness of appropriate behaviors and the importance of acting in an ethical manner. Be sure to utilize...

...decipher. My thoughts immediately after reading the text were that Kid Death was really a metaphor for Nick who had always hid behind a mask to appear frightening and cool but once you “took off his mask.” He was just another Geek like Kid Death. I also thought that the Angel must also be a metaphor for something, and I realized that it was a metaphor for the angel that had saved Nick. I thought that Kid Death and the Angel bundled together represented what we perceive as the “Devil and Angel on our shoulders.” The Devil is Kid Death and the angel being the angel. This showed nicks inner battle to either remain behind a mask and be cool like Kid Death and make Bad things happen. Or be good like the angel and not be so cool but still be good, in the end he chose the path of the Angel and this changed his life since he started being good and not always acting tough since he knew what happens if he does. Before the seminar, I had a pretty clear idea of what the subject of the story was. I remembered the general area of the subject of the story was to constantly travel the good path in life. In the scene near the end of the text where Nick was “frozen in time” and was looking at the angel saving his brother. He could choose to follow the path of the angel which symbolized him being good or choose the path of Kid Death and keep being bad (or keep on his mask) . He chooses the path of the angel and chooses to remain good. By selecting the best path in his life and by not acting tough...

...through many changes throughout life it’s not unlikely you’ve gone through sudden changes. When you experience sudden changes there will be an impact made on your life. A sudden change can be caused by fearing things, moving or experiencing horrible situations. One thing that may cause you to go through an unexpected change is fear. In A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley, Scrooge worries about his death to the point where he changes suddenly. Scrooge began a horrible person, but because he had the fear of death he changed to a jolly person. In A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley, Scrooge is also afraid of the ghosts of Christmas haunting him. Scrooge didn’t want something to happen to him that was unchangeable and he knew it was coming. To conclude, fear can make anybody change suddenly. Another way you can change unexpectedly is when you move. My whole life I’ve moved, at one point my family moved six times in six months. The first time I moved I was so upset about moving, I didn’t want to leave my school and my friends behind. Moving has made me a stronger person by teaching me how to let go of the past. When my sister was younger she hated moving, now she loves moving. She understands how she doesn’t have to stop talking to her friends just because we move, and she likes being in a new environment. My family has learned...

...Winston Smith in trying to make a change in Oceania. The absence of freedom of expression in Oceania is extreme, but it is a lesson that we can learn on how much the government can control its citizens. While Oceania has telecasts, we have television. Even though we have more control with ours, there are still powerful authority that may decide what the citizens should know and what they should not know. On the extreme side, the telecasts in Oceania always talks about wars and only positive increases in the economy. Even though our society would question a continuously positive news, we are consumed by what is told on shows and advertisement. In conclusion, we can think that our society is controlled by a less powerful Big Brother. We may be fine with the condition we are currently in, but if we are not being critical, the...

...confidence within himself. Eventually, Todd reads the poem out in front of the class and discovers his voice as well as his confidence, which he has been struggling to overcome prior to meeting Mr. Keating. Also, towards the end of the film, Todd is the first to stand on his desk in order to communicate to Mr. Keating the positive and transformative impact that his teaching has had. Todd has finally developed his character and through the teacher’s helps, has offered a renewed perception of himself; from being a shy boy to an outspoken and confident young man. Todd Anderson is shown saying “Oh Captain, my captain”. Anderson was a shy and embarrassed person, until he met Mr. Keating and through his help in searching for his confidence and individuality, he overcomes it. His character changed from being helpless and not able to communicate efficiently, to an artist of words in “Oh Captain, my captain. Therefore, the concept of discovery is clearly evident in the film ‘Dead Poets Society’, directed by Peter...
