When people can’t use their own words, music says it all. Two music genres that are viewed by a lot of individuals today are Hip Hop and Classic Rock. Researching articles on these two genres has given insight to what was unknown. Classic Rock developed in the late 1940’s. Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, and Elvis Pressley introduced this Genre. Classic Rock evolved in the United States and stemmed from a combination of various music genres. Those music genres that Rock stemmed from were blues, African-American genres, jump blues, jazz, and gospel music. Elvis Pressley who is an inspiring rock artist added his own twist to rock music by adding a fast paced upbeat sound and gave rock music life. Hip Hop was formed in the early 1970’s. Artists such as James Brown, Grand Master Flex, Afrika Bambaataa, Fab 5 Freddy, and DJ Hollywood were one of the first to introduce Hip Hop. It was stated that the Ghetto Brothers used to plug their instruments and amps up for these parties and enjoy themselves. An artist...

...genre, image, music, public perception and many other aspects which will be explored in this paper. It begins with the early days of The Beatles starting out as a new pop/rock band and the promising career of four young musicians. It then moves on to their more serious music approach and international branding. The band then transfers to their drug and hallucinogens brand. Shortly after it focuses on the public perception of the brand as they broke up and started their separate careers. Finally it will explain how the brand is known in the present age. Then the paper will move into some of the concepts discussed in the readings which include the genres and subgenres the band created. The end of the paper will move into a critical argument about how the brand of The Beatles has drastically changed over the years. Throughout The Beatles life their image, public persona and genre have all changed from their early pop/rock brand to one of the most influential rock bands in the world. Introduction The Beatles were an English rock band that consisted of four musicians. The first musician John Lennon was the main singer/song writer of the band. The second musician Paul McCartney was also a singer/song writer and played many different instruments. The next musician, George Harrison was the lead guitarist. The final musician Ringo Starr was the drummer of the band. They started their band in the 1960s and later became known as one of the greatest and most influential rock bands of the...

...When Rock arrived on the music charts in the 1950's, a merging of African-American and White music, it made a huge impact on society. As a general rule I am not heavily into music, but I was drawn to Rock for some inexplicable reason. It is just the music I like. This genre will be difficult to write about because the origin of Rock is unclear; there are traces of Rock's style back into the 19th Century. It is also a very broad subject and I will have to compress a lot of information into as few pages as possible. Be that as it may, Rock is, in my opinion the best music genre on the charts. There is so much information on Rock that I will have to have questions I want to find the answers to about the music. My first question will be, "What instruments are commonly used in a rock band?" This will not be hard to answer as it is a very easy question that has a definite answer. The next question will be, "Who were the first artists to produce Rock music?" This is also an easy question were I will discuss the first Rockers. Continuing on, my next question will ask, "How was the term Rock and Roll' created, and by who?" This may turn out to be a hard question to answer because I am sure there a multiple answers. "Has Rock become more or less popular since its inception?" will be my next question. For this question I will have to look for a survey or poll of some type and present its data. My final question will be, "How has the Music been changed over the years and who changed it...

...religious, racial, and gender equality. How did they influence artistic works of the time? The influence of artistic work was a great one in the 50’s-80’s time period. With the equality of women being able to vote, and the rights of African-Americans being able to vote, sit with white people and attend the same schools as white people this gave artist of the time a chance to be bold in every way they could be. To me art is not just paintings and sculptures but it also music and movies. Rock-n-roll was a big hit in the 50’s thanks to Elvis Presley whom to me is the greatest musical artist of all times. If it were not for him and his music then there would be no type of rock-n-roll type music. The Beatles would probably not exist nor any other rock group. If movie stars like Marilyn Monroe did not exist then there would no sex symbol for women to idolize like Anna Nicole Smith did and become famous. Without Jim and Tammy Bakker the Christian religion would not have been televised and a way for other religions to be televised and come out in the open for the world to experience. Andy Warhol experimented with film and brought out the most postmodern types of film in history. Throughout the century religious, racial and gender equality was the biggest influence in time. Come the mid 90’s time changed and people were no longer influenced by what was going on in this time period instead they just redo something and call it art. Musicians take music and sample it or just redo a whole song...

...Professor Lori Shipley Spirituals to Rock and Roll 23 April 2016 Joan Jett Pioneers Through Rock and Roll History America has been characterized by revolutionary people changing the aspects and perspectives of its citizens through innovative acts, movements, and even through word of mouth. Martin Luther King Jr. changed the outlook of millions of Americans on the racial division in the country by using peaceful protests and eloquently delivered speeches. Benjamin Franklin and the founding fathers pioneered an idea that a country could be run by the people, which was in direct opposition to the rule they were under in Britain. These two events have set forth a phenomenon in America that allows people to challenge prototypical roles and views. When it comes to music icons that have changed the normalcy of music during their time, one would have to be Joan Jett. She was faced with the overwhelming obstacle of battling sexism and gender inequality throughout her musical career, particularly in the Rock and Roll industry in the 1970s and 80s. The music industry was changing during the 1960s in part to what Americans were experiencing; the British Invasion, the assassination of President Kennedy, the Vietnam War, and the Civil Rights Movement. Rock and Roll quickly made its way into the mainstream being a powerful voice for the cultural revolution. Rock and Roll was a man’s world during the 70s and 80s, and women rockers were unwelcomed by both the musicians and fans. Joan...

...Hard Rock Café Case Study GSCM-206 Managing Supply Operations 1. Identify the strategy changes that have taken place at Hard Rock Café since its founding in 1971. Hard Rock Café is a globally recognized brand. Since its founding in 1971, Hard Rock Café has made continuous improvements and upgrades to bring the brand to where it is today, changing with the times and markets. Hard Rock started as a London Café serving classic “American” food and eventually became a “theme” restaurant chain selling memorabilia and souvenirs in tourist destinations. From there the company transformed by adding stores, upgrading menus, moving to places that were not, at the time, tourist destinations, and most effective of all, they began playing live music and hosting rock concerts, adding to the overall customer experience. Hard Rock changed dining by making it an “experience”, an event that includes a unique experience not duplicated anywhere else. To create this unique experience, Hard Rock has invested millions of dollars into creating an acoustic and visual scenario for their customers. They also introduced into their “experience” concept their own brand merchandise, souvenirs and products, which is unique to each location which in turn provides a greater income to the company. Hard Rock is known for its museum-worthy, and quite extensive amount of Rock N’ Roll memorabilia and merchandise. Today, its memorabilia collection is estimated to be worth approximately...

It is obvious that he greatly dislikes his new album that he is reviewing. The style of this review was very casual, which fits the style of the type of people who would buy his album. You can see that his review is casual when looking at the sarcastic tone of the review in general. You can also see that the style of his writing is casual by looking at how the reviewer mentions the more crude examples of Lil Wayne’s work. In order for zcamp to write his review, he had to have listened to the entire album he is reviewing and know of Lil Wayne’s other albums to compare. Since he compares the album he is reviewing to Lil Wayne’s previous works, he had to know what his other albums sound like. He also mentions a drink in his review that Lil Wayne made up called “sizzurp”. Zcamp talks about how Lil Wayne went to the hospital with violent seizures after consuming too much of his “sizzurp”. To know this information, he must follow the news of Lil Wayne. I do not follow or listen to Lil Wayne, and I did not know about his “sizzurp” or his hospitalization. Zcamp also includes specific examples of phrases and trends that Lil Wayne sang throughout his album. The reviewer had to intensely listen to all the songs and look for the connections of what Lil Wayne was saying from song to song to include that his review. In...

...The studio techniques of the Beatles: how four lads from Liverpool and a radio producer from the BBC changed sound recording forever. The Beatle’s music has been recognized as influential and innovative in many ways, none more so than their innovations and experiments in the studio and with sound recording with help of George Martin. This essay will discuss the studio techniques of the Beatles and how they changed the course of sound recording forever. The Beatles started to experiment in their recording techniques as early as 1964, having achieved incredible commercial, financial and critical success by this stage they were then essentially given free range in the recording studio, this gave them the unique opportunity for experimentation. With the help of George Martin that’s exactly what they did. Prior to the nineteen sixties and the Beatle’s experiments in the studio, sound recording was not a fully refined art that is there were none of the widely used seemingly natural conventions we are familiar with today. A good example of this is the 1966 song Taxman where drums are all panned to left; this might seem like nothing out of the ordinary now but in that time were defining the nature of sound recording. Much of the Beatle’s enthusiasm and desire to create new sound-scapes stemmed from their recreational drug use in particular trying to re-create sonically and lyrically their experiences of the drug LSD. This of course had to do with changing social order, the emergence...

...icon for today’s artists as well as future artists to come. His music was embodied by historical context and spoke about what was going on throughout history in the past and present. He knew his music was shaping the industry which he worked. “I’d either drive people away or they’d come closer to see what it was all about. There was no in-between. There were a lot of better singers and better musicians around these places but there wasn’t anybody close in nature to what I was doing. Folk songs were they way I explored the universe, they were pictures and the pictures were worth more than anything I could say” (Dylan, 18). He made numerous contributions to his genre and embodied the spirit and sound of the 20th century. Born in 1941, in Minnesota, Dylan grew up with a very different childhood then other famous singers. He was brought up Jewish and spent most of his time around family since they were the majority of the Jewish people that were in town. He seemed at an early age to develop a natural talent for writing poetry. Dylan took a deep interest in listening to the radio and admired the people that were on it. He began to notice his deep love for music in high school when he taught himself to play the piano and guitar. Country music, folk, blues, and rhythm had huge impacts on him. Hank Williams was a major inspiration to Dylan as well. Dylan taught himself the skills that he needed to be noticed in the music world and this allowed him to obtain his present status as a...

...I want to argue that he’s a champion cultural icon, the King of Rock and Roll, the Eternal Great. There are many reasons why this is true and I will lay these out in this paper. Elvis Presley is in fact, the ultimate cultural icon. He will never be replaced by anyone for many reasons. Thus, in this paper, I will argue that Elvis Presley is the ultimate cultural icon. For example, Elvis Presley and The Beatles represent the two poles of pop music superstardom. “On one side is the patriotic American truck driver with a voice that conquered the world over a two-decade career, and on the other hand, there are the four sharp-tongued Liverpudlians who came and went with the 60’s” (Webb). Former Beatle, John Lennon, once said, “Before Elvis, there was nothing” (Elvis Presley Quotes). “The question is, why Elvis? Why is Elvis—more so than Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Jr., and J.F.K.—consistently held up as an ‘icon of the twentieth century’” (Doss 2)? The reason Elvis is an icon is because he made an everlasting impression during his time. He was revolutionary. He influenced the teenage culture of the fifties and his music has shaped the styles of many recent artists. Musician Rod Stewart said, “Elvis was the king. No doubt about it. People like myself, Mick Jagger and all the others only followed in his footsteps” (Elvis Presley Quotes). Presley still has admirers of all ages: children, elderly, rock stars, and celebrities. He even touched the hearts of average people...

...history, when rock and roll was giving birth to the Sexual Revolution and everything in America culture was about to be turned upside down. Record companies were releasing more than a hundred singles every week and the country was about to explode. Grease, generally considered a trivial little musical about The Fabulous Fifties, is really the story of America’s tumultuous crossing over from the 50s to the 60s, throwing over repression and tradition for freedom and adventure (and a generous helping of cultural chaos), a time when the styles and culture of the disengaged and disenfranchised became overpowering symbols of teenage power and autonomy. Originally a rowdy, dangerous, over-sexed, and insightful piece of alternative theatre, Grease was inspired by the rule-busting success of Hair and shows like it, rejecting the trappings of other Broadway musicals for a more authentic, more visceral, more radical theatre experience that revealed great cultural truths about America. An experience largely forgotten by most productions of the show today. Like Hair before it and The Rocky Horror Show which would come a year later, Grease is a show about repression versus freedom in American sexuality, about the clumsy, tentative, but clearly emerging sexual freedom of the late 1950s, seen through the lens of the middle of the Sexual Revolution in the 1970s. It’s about the near carnal passion 1950s teenagers felt for their rock and roll, the first art form that actually changed human sexuality...

In the late 1950s, native performers adapted Tagalog lyrics for North American rock and roll music, resulting in the seminal origins of Philippine rock. The most notable achievement in Philippine rock of the 1960s was the hit song "Killer Joe," which propelled the group "Rocky Fellers" which reached number sixteen on the American radio charts.
