...How To Find That Elusive Balance Between Work and Life “Balance is beautiful.” - Miyoko Ohno, Japanese bridge designer Article by Leo Babauta I have a close friend named Norm who is a great photographer and a great person in general … recently he was telling me that all he does is work. That might sound familiar to some of you — I’ve certainly been there at different points in my life, although these days I have to say that I’ve found a pretty good balance between all the important things in my life, including work, family, and other things I’m interested in. Norm asked me to write a post about work-life balance, because although I think Norm is pretty happy with his life, he’s interested in expanding his life beyond work. I think it’s an interesting question that most of us have to address at some point or other. Either way, it’s a part of our lives, good or bad. Of course, when people talk about a work-life balance, they mean that we should find a balance between work and our personal lives, which is definitely true. But it’s important to realize that if work is really something you love, you don’t need to cut it short in order to spend more time at home in front of the television. So the key is to remember that what we’re looking for is a balance between the things we love...

It changes the way we do things and makes things easier to understand with some work fields that people are in today. With some fields of work computers would not really help out that much but in my field it helps out a lot. Just from the tools that we use it is mostly a computer base thing. My major is Recreation Management. So it is basically and outdoor type of major that deals with things like forest, agriculture, animals, and the land in general. So from the classes I have this year I am learning that computers are vastly becoming a part of my major. We use things like Geo II Explorer, and the Garmin E-Trex. Those to are computer-based object that you need to up load and transfer your data to and from the computer. The Geo II Explorer with creates maps and plots the points of where you have been and how to get to one point to another. ...Are you sick of work? Do you dread going into your job? Do you hate what you do? Is it taking everything you have not to quit your job? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are not alone. According to a recent Gallup finding, only 13% of workers worldwide are engaged. It's safe to assume that those people are somewhat passionate about their work while the other 87% would rather be doing something else. There are so many reasons to be more passionate at work. ...strengths and weaknesses. Once we were divided in our teams, we asked questions that could affect our team. Questions included things like, what color should the casing be? What material should the panels be made out of? Approximately how big do you want this whole thing to be? Brainstorm We met with Johnny and the problem was laid out for us, it was time for us to brainstorm some ideas and changes we might think will be better for the WWV. The group and I brainstormed any ideas we had and wrote them on a white board we had in class. After we had thrown out everything we thought could be a potential option, we went back through the list and canceled out any obvious outliers that are near impossible to put or that don’t make sense. Then, we divided each idea into each team that made sense for the idea. Plan One of the biggest organizers we had was our Gantt chart. It helped keep work organized along with keeping people accountable for their work. It also helps separate work to specific group members in each team. You were required yourself to update the Gantt chart after working on something to let the group know how much further we have. Every day in class, we would refer to Gantt chart to determine what we were working on for the day. Other things besides the Gantt chart were daily updates, not only were they good tools for documenting our work, but also we were required to put what we were doing the next day so we didn’t come into class wondering what we were working...

...to learn new things and improve my knowledge and grades. By improving my knowledge I will be able to go onto the next stage of my development. I believe that if I did not have such a desire to be a midwife, it would affect my learning by creating a mental blockage which would stop my ability to take things in and learn as I would become lazy and not interested from the lack of direction in my life. As soon as I realised what I wanted to do as a career, it really highlighted my priorities and I found that I have started to focus a lot more on my assignments. I have started paying more attention in classes and producing better quality assignments which obtain me the grades I desire. This is important since it has influenced the way I work as it is positive and made my work become better and my behaviour. A key influence on my learning is my friends which can influence my learning by distracting me during lessons which is a negative thing, however they also by helping me to catch up on work. In some ways, friends can motivate me since they encourage me to do my work and to get my assignments done on time so I am able to achieve what I want. Furthermore they also motivate me as they help me with my work when I need it instead of waiting to ask a teacher which cannot be done as easily.. Friends have a positive influence on my learning since they are aware of the things that I am doing so that they know what I should be working on as they are doing the same thing as me. A negative...

...Invidious comparison and vicarious traumatization are two things that most people will experience in their lifetime. I know for I personally have experienced both during my 28 years of life. Invidious comparison and vicarious traumatization can both be damaging to yourself and other people involved. That is why I'd like to take the time to explain a few important topics on invidious comparison and vicarious traumatization, such as; how to stop invidious comparison, identify strategies that I currently use to avoid vicarious traumatization in my personal life, how those strategies will help me avoid vicarious traumatization as a human service worker and what strategies I could develop to avoid it as well. I myself have compared myself to others at such a level that it did damage to my own self-esteem. I had a baby at a young age, I gained a lot of weight and my self-esteem instantly dropped. Always comparing myself to other moms who had babies. I would be so hard on myself about why I didn't look like them and why it was taking me so long to drop the baby weight. It even got to the point where I stopped eating because I thought that was the answer to losing weight and looking like these other moms that had babies just like I did. I was so busy focusing on my weakness and faults that I didn't stop to embrace my strengths and to embrace the difference of those other moms. Instead of allowing those other moms to inspire me, it brought me down because of envy and jealousy. ...

...Writing 101 Live Life to the Extreme Everyday in life, one passes by those people that just seem unhappy. It seems like they are just having a bad day every day. Normally one sees them juggling a lot of things, like a briefcase, coffee, purse, bags, and other articles. They are almost running from the office to their car, to home and then back out to do other things. They have their phone constantly up to their ear talking, talking, talking and most have even upgraded now to a hands-free Bluetooth so they can juggle even more things. Doesn't one feel like just giving them a vacation or just a few minutes to sit down and relax? Do they even know how to relax after working so hard for so long? Everyone deserves that "me" time. This is why overworking creates an unhappy life to those that do not slow down and take breaks. Overworking will affect the person eventually and almost always it is in the negative aspect. If a person is constantly on the go and thinking about only work, that means that they may not be resting their brain or getting sleep. No sleep makes almost everyone grouchy, disconnected or both. When someone is too preoccupied with work or working in general, whether on a presentation or a sport or in a big corporation, this may make them forget about simple tasks like eating, sleeping, exercising or taking breaks to rest. This all leads to health problems! Think about this, if a person is too busy to eat, rest, or do simple tasks, does one really think they are...
