...differences in the jobs for which men and women apply in order to better understand gender segregation in managerial jobs. We develop and test an integrative theory of why women might apply to different jobs than men. We note that constraints based on gender role socialization may affect three determinants of job applications: how individuals evaluate the rewards provided by different jobs, whether they identify with those jobs, and whether they believe that their applications will be successful. We then develop hypotheses about the role of each of these decision factors in mediating gender differences in job applications. We test these hypotheses using the first direct comparison of how similarly qualified men and women apply to jobs, based on data on the job searches of MBA students. Our findings indicate that women are less likely than men to apply to finance and consulting jobs and are more likely to apply to general management positions. These differences are partly explained by women’s preference for jobs with better anticipated work– life balance, their lower identification with stereotypically masculine jobs, and their lower expectations of job offer success in such stereotypically masculine jobs. We find no evidence that women are less likely to receive job offers in any of the fields studied. These results point to some of the ways in which gender differences can become entrenched through the long-term expectations and assumptions that job candidates carry...

...should be proactive and future oriented; therefore, I chose this topic because of the demand to recruit potential applicants via the internet. A vast number of companies are requiring applicants to apply online; this is the only way for an individual to submit the application and/or resume. Applying online is one of the fastest ways to recruit and has proven to be a benefit to the company because it saves paper, money, time and trees (environmental friendly). With this favorable practice, applicants must know how to successfully apply for a job online. Each company has their own process; therefore, it’s important for applicants to receive information and instructions on how to meet the hiring company requirements. Meeting their hiring requirements can be the result of whether or not the person will be considered for the job. An applicant applying online has been identified as an analytic need for companies because it enhances their hiring process. These needs are generally perceived by intuition, insight, or expert consideration. The need exist on an organizational, task, and person analysis level of need. The organizational analysis suggests where in the company training is needed and under what conditions it will occur. The task analysis explains what must be done to perform a job or complete a process successfully. The person analysis reveals who needs to be trained and what kind of training is needed (Werner & DeSimone, p. 108). In order to remain competitive, many...

...The topic “how to find employment after college,” is likely one of the questions you hear most often from this generation. The education you’ve received up to this point ultimately leads to one place, the job search. You may come across so many kids who have obtained degrees in college but they still struggle to find jobs in their field of choice because their roles are no longer in-demand to their area. Finding a job isn’t easy, especially if this is the first time you’re looking, but it’s also far from impossible. The key is to prioritize what’s most important to you in the process. The first step to finding employment after college is to put discouragement aside. You need to have a plan and no matter how many times you apply for jobs you can't let your discouragement in not landing the position keep you from trying again and again. It is advised that people don’t follow their passion. Most passions do not translate into successful careers. Instead you need to look at your effort. Whatever it is you spend the most time doing may be the perfect career. This is because when you spend a lot of time doing something, much skill is gained making you an expert in that field. The second step to finding employment is to fully put yourself out there. You need to step out into the world and let it know you are there. You should create a personal profile on a job website or sign up on a social message board. This will help you get started in socializing. Young people should do...

...learned the stated, not only as a team, but as individuals. We all come from different walks of life and backgrounds; this diversity is what makes working together as a team so great. We all agree that we can apply what we learned to our professional or personal lives. Analyzing week two, we agreed that we had an inside look on what the six steps are during the planning process. These steps are situational analysis, alternative goals and plans, goals and evaluation, goals and plan selection, implementation, and finally monitor and control. We agree these steps are most important in the planning process and play an important role in setting up alternative goals and plans. We also concur it is a good idea to have an alternative plans, in case the original plan falls through the cracks. Having a backup plan is a great way to run a business and minimize risk. Areg from our team shared an example of how he has applied this to his life, when he was coaching basketball his duties were to analyze the other team and make plans, so the team goals would be accomplished. The kids in his team had to be monitored and controlled as well as the other team to make sure my kids are staying healthy and also to know if something happened to the other teams’ players. Greg, also shared how some of what he has learned is being applied in his professional life. Greg, is a...

... attitudes and knowledge required by the organisation and the work required. Recruitment Attracting the right candidates to apply for a job can be an expensive process. It is even more expensive when done badly because when unsuitable candidates apply for a job, then the post may need to be re-advertised - so it is best to get it right first time. The starting point is to carry out job analysis to identify the sorts of skills, knowledge and essential requirements that someone needs to have to carry out a job. These details can be set out in a job specification, which is passed on to recruiters - it gives them a picture of the ideal candidate. A job description is also helpful because it sets out: The job description can be sent out to potential candidates along with a person specification, which sets out the desirable and essential characteristics that someone will need to have to be appointed to the post. A variety of media will be used to attract applications e.g. national newspapers for national jobs, and local papers and media for local posts. Job advertisements set out such details as: location of work salary closing date of application how to apply experience required qualifications expected duties and responsibilities. Selection Selection simply involves choosing the right person for the job. Effective selection requires that the organisation...
