...At the age of three, I began gymnastics at the Robert K. Fox family YMCA. Because I was always trying to stand on my head and even do cartwheels, my mother decided that I should join gymnastics. Surprisingly, I was always excited to go to practice. Now I am at the point to where I can tumble on my own. Being in gymnastics for over 8 years has changed my perspective. During that time, I never would’ve imagined how much gymnastics would’ve modified my life. Gymnastics has made me change my perspective of life. In gymnastics, there is a 99.99% chance you’re going to fall. When you fall, you have two choices; to get up and try again, or accept defeat and give up. The first option is always the way to go, no one should quit as soon as they fall,...

...Most of his transpersonal experiences were because of Soc, how this happens is still a mystery to me, but he would touch Dan’s head and he would “go for a trip” as they called it. One of the first experiences himself and Soc were in the beams of the ceiling during a gymnastic meet and he could hear everything, although it was silent in the gym. Whatever someone in the crowd or a gymnastics was thinking, he could zone in and hear it. Another experience was when he was a fish and rocks came crashing in the water from the surface. Everything Soc had him experience was for a reason, and whether Dan understood the meaning of the experience right away or not contributed to further his teachings and understandings of a warrior. While reading, the transpersonal experience I could relate to of Dan’s the most was of his National Gymnastic Championship meet. That feeling of electricity in the body and the feeding off of each other, when one person does good it seems to boost and pump everyone up and the whole team does well. I have experienced what Dan did, right before you perform everything comes at you all at once. Thinking about previous meets, who is watching, a race that you preformed bad...

...Qyntasia Davis Professor English Comp. 2 March 15 2015 Is cheerleading a sport? Somehow everyone is still talking about is cheerleading a sport, I guess they aren’t convinced yet. Cheerleading is something that is active and just about any and everybody can participate in, others think it is not a sport because it is not as active as track, football, and basketball. This sport can give people courage and can bring out the best in you and it can make you feel great inside and make you want to work together with people and as a team just like any other sport. Teamwork is the dream work. Cheerleaders are commonly seen on the sidelines at football and basketball games supporting their teams. Fans just see them as other people supporting their team. However, the cheerleaders have to go through rigorous training and practice all the time to perfect the routines displayed at games. Along with cheering on the sidelines at games, most cheerleading squads participate in heated competitions to show their athleticism. Although it is not officially defined as a sport by the NCAA, it obviously should be for many different reasons. Dictionary.com defines a sport as "an athletic activity that requires physical prowess or skill and often a competitive nature. Cheerleading is defined as” the action and skill of a cheerleader.” So what is a cheerleader? A cheerleader is’ a person who leads spectators in traditional or formal cheering at a pep rally and athletic events. Cheerleading definitely...

...Those Few Minutes Maybe she was born this way. Maybe she has to be crazy to love the sport, to love gymnastics. It destroys her body. It takes up nearly all of her life all for a few seconds on the mats. Sometimes she has to ask herself, “Is it worth it?” She always answers yes. Those few minutes mean the world to her. Whether she walks off or has to be carried off, the pain endured on those mats will always be worth those few minutes. If she loses or if she wins, whether her routine falls apart or marks perfection, those mats are worth it. That is why she gives everything while competing. The rush of air as she flies through the air, the sound of the excited crowd arises the second she sticks her landing. She smiles widely even when she aches from pain, because of these few moments. She will give her last few minutes on the floor with the realization that these minutes meant everything to her and that provides the motivation to give everything she has. When she is competing she can feel it. The blood rushing to her face, she feels the nerves that are seemingly impossible to control. Her legs and hands shake, for fear of making a devastating mistake. Her success all depends on the performance she can give in such a minuscule amount of time. On December 3rd, 2010, she went to Regionals. Her goal was to score perfectly on beam. She counted to three, inhaled, and mounted the beam. Drops of sweat beaded up on her forehead. It was halfway through her routine, when she fell on her...

...How will the MBA program fit with my career plans? My career at IBM has taken a seemingly planned path to bring me where I am today with the corporation. In reality, my career has been a mix of exact choices, hard work, and a bit of surprise. I began my career at IBM in May of 2004 after receiving my Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University. I was hired into a technical role as a circuit design engineer working on microprocessor design for IBM’s mainframe System Z servers. The opportunity to design and contribute as a member of a world-class design team was both extremely exciting and intimidating. The engineers at IBM are the best in the industry and many have made IBM their home for entire careers; I immediately set a goal to become a key contributor to the team while striving to learn as much as possible from my mentors and colleagues. My first mentor within the company gave me a piece of advice, he said: “Take every opportunity presented to you, large or small, and also be a team player” I took this to heart and made this a driving force in my career. This led me very quickly from an entry-level engineer in my first project to a unit and team lead a couple of years later. New pathways continued to present themselves and I jumped at each challenge with enthusiasm as my mentor’s advice echoed in my mind. I was afforded the opportunity to not only deliver on known work assignments, but also the opportunity...

...Essay on “Into Thin Air” Second Place Academy “And the 2013 state runner up is…La Salle Academy”. My entire senior year, award ceremonies always seemed to turn out that way. It was the running joke of our senior class; we had taken on the title of Second Place Academy. First place kept escaping our sports team’s grasps, including my own. As a cheerleader and avid sports fan, I attended basically every game, match, and meet during my senior year. That year some of the recipients of those second place medals included the hockey team, cheerleaders, boys soccer, boys basketball, girls lacrosse, volleyball, gymnastics, football, and so on. Through the tears, disappointment and many upsets, I learned bitter sweetly how much my high school community really means to me. La Salle Academy is a large, private Catholic high school located in the heart of Providence, Rhode Island. We are known for our sports, our arts, and of course the education you receive while in private school. With private schools, come a variety of unwanted factors. One is the hate you receive from public school students, I learned quickly that it doesn’t matter who you are, and they just love to see you fail. Another is the rich group of students who have all been friends since kindergarten, and have climbed the ladder of private schools together. This group’s bubble is almost impossible to break into. Now, don’t get me wrong I learned to love this school. I transferred from a public school La Salle after...

...Hip Replacement When I was 12 years old I shattered my hip. While at gymnastics one day I was learning how to do a double back handspring back tuck. I had tried about 20 times before I said “I’m just giving up!” My teacher came up to me and asked me to try one more time. So I gave it one more try. When I was coming down to land, my hip popped out of place and as I landed it shattered. Hurting my hip has changed my life, family bonds, and required surgery. On April 18th, 2008, I was admitted into St. Joseph hospital to have surgery. The process took 6 hours to complete. I was released from the hospital on April 23rd to go home. I wasn’t able to go back to school until October 10th. During my time off, I had a homebound teacher come to my house every day to help me stay caught up in school. My family was changed dramatically because of my injury. My mom and I have never really gotten along so she had my dad take off work to stay home with me. Therefore she had to take on a second job to keep the house functioning. We started having some troubles with money so after a couple of weeks passed; my dad had to return to work. Ever since my surgery, my life has been really complicated. All throughout High School, it has been really hard to stay in any sports. My freshman through junior year I was a Belton Pirate Cheerleader. When my boyfriend Brennon and I got together we both decided that it was a good idea if I quit so that I wouldn’t have any further injuries. Starting off my senior...

She had a sharp pain in her foot after gym and was giving her teacher the evil eye as if it would do anything to help. As Jamie got in the car back from school her mom asked her how her foot was and she answered with,”Fine. Except Mrs. Arthur never said anything to the gym teacher!” Jamie was fuming and she didn't really know why. It was an accident after all. {TWO WEEKS LATER} After arriving at the children's hospital to get an X-Ray, Jamiebegan becoming a little scared that she might be permanently damaged. “Jamie.” The nurse said with wandering eyes, searching for someone standing up. Jamie and her mom stood up and followed the nurse down a hallway to the X-ray room. The nurse centered her foot to the right angle to be scanned. After the machine was done, Jamie was free to go. Another doctor behind a desk announced that they would get the results in a week. {ONE WEEK LATER} After the results came...

...9 SUBJECT-VERB AGREEMENT RULES FOR SUBJECT-VERB AGREEMENT RULE 1 – A verb agrees with its subject in number. Singular subjects take singular verbs: The car stays in the garage. The flower smells good. There is an old saying: “Opposites attract.” The rule for singular and plural verbs is just the opposite of the rule for singular and plural nouns. Remember this when you match subjects and verbs. You might guess that stays and smells are plural verbs because they end in s. They aren’t. Both stays and smells are singular verbs. RULE 2 – The number of the subject (singular or plural) is not changed by words that come between the subject and the verb. One of the eggs is broken. Of the eggs is a prepositional phrase. The subject one and the verb is are both singular. Mentally omit the prepositional phrase to make the subject verb-agreement easier to make. SUBJECT-VERB AGREEMENT EXERCISE 1 Direction: Circle the correct verb in each of the sentences below. Check your answers on the following page. 1. Your friend (talk-talks) too much. 2. The man with the roses (look-looks) like your brother. 3. The women in the pool (swim-swims) well. 4. Bill (drive-drives) a cab. 5. The football players (run-runs) five miles every day. 6. ...concerns on behalf of my parents. But all these do not curtail my passion to help the needy in my neighborhood. Almost everybody in my vicinity refers me to be a very charitable person and is something I do not take for granted. Am the type whose parents even though provided everything my kid sister and I needed in life, did not spend enough time with because they lived and worked outside the country and I had to watch over myself and my little sister in a very nice neighborhood where everybody would mind his or her own business. But a neighbor in the area took it upon herself to take care of us like her children so that we would become very responsible even though we had everything to survive and make life comfortable for us. This was where and how I got my inspiration to do charity and give back to the society in my own little way. Notwithstanding the little thing written about me above, I like to do the following outside my job and other thing that takes my time and these thing I do, is mostly in my closet. They are things that I do as an individual from my own free will. I do a lot of youth counseling in my neighborhood and because of this, am well- known in my neighborhood by a lot of youth in my hood because my door is always opened to them. I became glued to this when a lot of young people always wanted to share thoughts with me and the secret to this is basically because I come to their level because I...

...Life at a Glance As I begin to write this paper, I find myself reminiscing about different events and situations I have not thought about in years, even some that I didn’t even know I remembered. It’s amazing how something as simple as writing a paper has me in such a reflective mood. There are things that I thought I would have done and goals I thought I would have accomplished by now, but I know that I would not be the person I am today if my life had been any different than it has been so far. In this paper I plan to present an overview of my life through different experiences and situations with reference to some of the readings from our Adult Development and Life Assessment course. In the beginning I can say that I had the traditional family: dad, mom, and three girls. My parents met in college at - he was a senior and my mom a freshman. He was the football star and she was the quiet girl from the country. At their first encounter he told her she would be the mother of his kids and she dismissed him. But he was persistent because my sisters and I are here. Although my dad is always telling us about how happy were as a family, I was seven when they divorced. I don’t remember all those happy times, and my sisters were younger than me -they were five & three- so they don’t remember them either. My earliest memories of that time are of him not being around because they were separated. Then he moved back to Florida when I was eight and we only saw him during the...

...How Flexible Are Your Flexible Benefits? By: Barbra Volpe Lisa Crass Cheryl Hurt Shaun Montalvo Karla Smith Compensation and Benefits HRM 3213 Mid – Continent University Facilitator: Dana Cosby December 5, 2012 How Flexible are flexible spending plans? Only as far as the organization will allow it to bend. Flexible spending accounts (health FSA) are very common today with major health care providers and seem to be very popular with the people enrolled in these programs. These are also known as health reimbursement accounts, health savings account and the like, are components of ways for individuals to allocated funds (Wikipedia, 2011). Funds are deducted from your weekly paycheck and may be used to pay for out-of-the pocket expenses. These funds are tax deductible and “pre-tax” dollars are a benefit to people. Flexible Benefit Program What is a flexible benefit program? A flexible benefit program is a program that allows eligible employees to choose and pay for benefits such as medical insurance, life insurance, short and long term disability, out-of-pocket medical expenses, child care or even adult day care. These benefits are paid for out of their pre-taxed income. One benefit for an employee who takes advantage of a flexible benefit program is that the insurance and other benefits that they contribute to are usually of a better quality than what they could purchase on their own. This is because the company that is going to supply these can get a...
