During this course I learned there are eight important periods of human development. These periods consist of Pre-natal, Infancy, Early Childhood, Late Childhood, Adolescent and Early Adulthood stage. From these eight stages, three make up major developmental stages in your life such as child, adolescent and adult development. We've also discussed three important issues in the study of development, which are the nature-nurture issue, continuity-discontinuity issue and the stability- change issue. Before this course I wouldn't have realize how crucial certain events in a persons life can have for their future. Questions such as do change occur smoothly or overtime through predetermined steps? Theories where children acquire skills as they grow older where the environment impacts the behavior and shapes their interactions. For example the Mayan who raised his oldest son on the field in a traditional culture society where the Mayan father and son planted food with only hand made tools. They acquired knowledge through age and experience, where the old never retired and the fifteen year olds were never …show more content…
Having developmental milestones an coffer guidelines where certain skills and abilities typically emerge, but can also create concern when a child falls behind the norm. This subject was important because as a parent you don't know if your child is experiencing a "normal" behavior as they're growing up or not. For example in the video dealing with autism learning that it's a biological condition, where you can be as young one year old. Some of the abnormal examples given were body rocking, contently injuring themselves, repeating what you say and even denying approval from others. Learning through the case study the different approaches into teaching and showing autistic children the ropes into an everyday life
