We are all familiar with the traditional forms of recruitment through referrals, newspaper ads, and more recently: online ads, listing on employers sites, professional sites such as LinkedIn, etc... All good tools but within recent years a huge movement has occurred with the popularity of social media. It has progressed from a past time, and means of simple communication to a "lifestyle" among many different generations. Getting an organizations brand out there, being prevalent on sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.. can not only be used as for marketing, but also for strengthening the brand overall. Having that presence in social media can be very powerful-not only to increase popularity, but also as a tool for marketing the many amazing things an organization could offer to a prospective employee. My company utilizes these tools to increase awareness on recent changes with healthcare, recent developments in the news, awards and recognitions received, and their many philanthropic efforts. They have one of the best marketing teams I have ever seen, and building that positive reputation has made my current employer a desirable place to work. In addition to utilizing social media, I have seen many companies using philanthropy as a very resourceful recruitment tool. By getting out in the community and networking at these events, they have found prospective employees they may not have met otherwise. Being that they are participating in the same philanthropic efforts, they have that shared interest and many times further interest in that particular industry. Overall I believe getting the organization out there in a positive light is the best way-via networking and use of the internet. There are so many options to choose from now, they just need to decide which ones will work best for their

Human Resource Management: Recruiting

...Abstract The recruiting and hiring process can be extremely time consuming and resource intensive. In order to ensure the company is hiring the right people, it may take months to complete the process. When it comes to employing competent and capable staff, the stakes are high, therefore it is very important to know the steps involved in the process and adhere to them as strictly as possible (Shwiff, 2007).  Human Resource Management: Recruiting The process of recruiting and hiring comprises of several phases, however, before being able to recruit and retain employees the company needs to make sure it understands all of the regulations and laws that must be followed during the process (Fernández-Aráoz, 2009). There are a multitude of regulations and laws in place to safeguard applicants throughout the recruitment process; many of the legal mandates that pertain to recruiting and hiring are on a federal level that all states must comply with but there are also a number of laws on a state level that apply to that state only (Wren, 2006). The federal laws that cover employment and recruitment are as follows: • Wages and hours- the laws regulating this fall under the FLSA (fair labor standards act) and is enforced by the WHD (wage & hour division) of the US DOL (department of labor). This act stipulates the criteria for minimum wage and overtime. Under the FLSA employees, unless they are exempt, must be compensated at least the federal minimum wage for a 40 hour...

...Human Resources Departments are very rarely thought of as a strategic partner for organizations or one that can add value by management teams. In the fast paced workplace HR professionals are expected to “provided expanded services of higher quality, [which are] faster and seamlessly linked with other corporate functions” while maintaining the personal, face-to-face relationship with the organizations employees (Hendrickson, 2003, p.1) This can become a challenge because of the added responsibilities and required turnaround time, but human resources professionals do have the potential to provide top notch work with the assistance of a human resources information system. HRIS/HRMS Overview Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) are a key piece of every human resources department in today’s workplace and about 90 percent of all HR departments currently operate with some form of computerized” system (Mishra and Akman, 2010). ...advantages and disadvantages of each system and, based on your knowledge of human resources and database systems, propose one (1) package that would fit the needs of your organization. Suggest three (3) specific reasons why you would recommend that system over the other. Human resources database software typically offers a myriad of features. Some manage hiring and training while others management benefits and performance management. Triton HR & Payroll are the 2 commercial HR database systems that I will be reviewing. After reviewing them both, I recommend Payroll as they have a seamless end-to-end HR solution that includes recruiting all the way to termination. The software addresses recruiting, on-boarding, time & attendance, payroll processing, benefits, coaching and performance management, and terminations. It is a very through system that allows for easy implementation and costs less than the Triton HR system. Although the Triton HR system does contain many of the same features, what it lacks is the fluid transfer of information and reduction of paperwork. Overall the Payroll system is more efficient, effective, and affordable than the Triton HR system. Suggest three (3) efficiencies that an organization would gain from using a SAAS for its HRIS needs and three (3) inefficiencies from maintaining an MS Access-based database application. Using software as a service (SAAS) for Human Resource database management has several advantages. One advantage which is most...
