...A self-analysis can be defined as evaluating the thoughts and behaviors of oneself. This includes personality, emotions and behaviors of an individual without the aid of another individual. To evaluate my own qualities that I share with the world I had to take a step back and evaluate where I came from and how I got to my current location in my present life. I am a 20 year old female, born and raised here in Rochester, New York. I was raised in Hamlin and later moved to Spencerport when I was eight years of age, due to my parent’s separation. I remained very close to both of my parents as the years progressed, and continued to have join custody. That being said, my parents were raised fairly differently in aspects of religion, location, and...

...Merriam-Webster dictionary says that personality is the set of emotional qualities, ways of behaving, etc. that makes a person different from other people. 2. What are some key personality features that define you? There are a number of personality features that I could be used to define me. First, I would say warm, I am genuinely a happy, approachable, hospitable, thoughtful person. To that end I would also use self-less; I tend to always think of others before myself, and will give someone my last whatever if they were in need. I am brutally honest. I believe that this is a trait that I have that has been perceived by others as sarcasm. That is not the case, however, I am a person that is not afraid to say what other want to say. I would use the world resilient. As it pertains to me, I can bounce back from any situation (homelessness, incarceration, a debilitating accident) with grace and a real smile. I can make the best out of any situation. My most enduring trait is that I am nurturing…I tend to “take care” of everyone that I care about. When I love, I love to the core. My loyalty is not fleeting; if we are friends, we are friends. Even in disagreements, I will not turn my back on a friend. I am religious. I believe that God died on the cross for my sins, and on the...

... 2013 I chose the topic Gay Marriage, and I chose this one, because I have such a strong view and opinion on this topic. I wish that one day we could all live in a world where everyone is accepted, no matter who that love, that is my idea of a perfect world, that and no violence. Gay Marriage I know though will never be 100% accepted everywhere, and it does not have to be, everyone has the right to their own opinion and freedom of speech. I am completely for Gay Marriage, I do not see an issue at all, but I know others feel differently. I feel that the gay community should get the same treatment and same benefits we do with marriage. My opinion on this issue has always been the same as long as I can remember. I have never had a problem with gays, nor will I ever; I just view them as people. I wish everyone could have the same views, I think this world would be a better and more comfortable place. I know gays are viewed as different, and outcasts but I know I would not want to feel that way. I follow the golden rule, treat others as you would want to be treated and do unto others and you would wish them to do to you. I have never had anyone close in my family that was gay, but I have had friends that I knew were gay, and they were honestly no different than my straight friends. They treated me the same, treated their families and other friends the same, nothing different. I had this girl, who used to be one of my best friends, and she is a lesbian, and I seen how she...

...Final Analysis on “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee Jackie Berry Colorado Technical University LITR 240 Prof. Peggy Huey May 9, 2011 Abstract When an author writes novels, short stories, or poems, most of their ideas come from life experiences. The author is trying to send a message that may mirror what the reader can understand. Many writings address conflicts, themes and symbolism. Harper Lee (2006) introduced many of these elements into her novel “To Kill a Mockingbird”. Harper Lee gives accounts of the story as if she was a young child and learns many life lessons that change her life forever. “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (2006), takes place a small populated town in Maycomb, Alabama. The author has taken us back when hatred and prejudice is very common in the 1930s. Atticus, Scout, and Jem Finch are frowned upon because Atticus is defending a black man of allegedly raping a white woman. Atticus uses this opportunity to teach Scout and Jem morals that we teach our children today. Atticus teaches Scout and Jem to not to be judgmental towards anyone, not be afraid to stand up for what is right, and violence does not solve anything. Jem and Scout will also learn the true symbolizing of why it is a sin to kill a mockingbird. Harper Lee described the town of Maycomb as being a very poor and run down. The community is very small and everyone knew each other. The blacks and whites are divided and some that...

Leavitt explores the legal arguments of Mallon’s incarceration. Leavitt writes .” Mary Mallon had been determined to obtain freedom from the early moments of her detention..she resisted strenuously when she was first arrested...and she continued during her years on the island. Mallon and her legal advisor strongly believed that she did not have typhoid disease because she did not display any physical symptoms of the disease. Public health official deprived Mallon of her civil liberties and she sought to obtain justice. To further support her claim, Mallon requested to have private laboratory analysis of her feces and urine by the Ferguson Laboratory in Manhattan. When Mallon wrote George Ferguson regarding the results he responds, “none of the specimens submitted by you , of urine and feces, have shown Typhoid colonies” (p. 74). In 1909, Mary Mallon’s lawyer, George Francis O’Neil filed “a writ of habeas corpus to test the legality of Mallons detention in a court...

...In her letters, Mother admittedly reveals her incompetency to nurture Christopher’s special needs by stating, ‘I wasn’t a very good mother Christopher. Maybe if things had been differant, maybe if you’d been differant, I might have been better at it’ (pg. 133). Christopher’s mother expresses a sense of melancholy through her reminiscence of positive memories, ‘I was looking through some old photos last night, which made me sad’ (pg. 131), suggesting the hurt she feels without Christopher in her life. Through her narration, Haddon manifests Mother’s previously unseen characteristics of solicitude and affection to generate the readers sympathetic perspective of mother. Moreover, the reader acquires a stronger empathetic perspective of Mother after she explains her struggle to tolerate Christopher’s behavior and grow a positive relationship with him. Following Christopher’s overwhelming tantrum in a shopping center, Mother reflects on her husband’s superior parenting skills and relationship with Christopher. The reader discovers Mother’s domineering motive for abandoning Christopher when she mentions, ‘it was like you didn’t really need me at all’ and ‘I realised you and your father were probably better off if I wasn’t living in the house’. Her justification for leaving Christopher depicts her as a fragile but loving mother. Haddon’s use of Mother’s perspective transfigures her character whilst providing...

...Through much of Franz Kafka’s writing, the reader can see how his personal experiences and viewpoints are clearly worked into his many stories. One of which stands out is his story A Hunger Artist. In this story Kafka speaks through the hunger artist of the alienation and isolation he feels in his own body, as well as the emptiness he feels as a result of the disconnected relationship he and his father share. Ironically this emptiness manifests itself quite literally at the end of Kafka’s life, when he dies as a result of tuberculosis of the larynx, which causes him to literally starve to death, just as the hunger artist in the story. It was said about his writing “the early manifestations of authentic originality were nurtured in solitary confinement, with his readiness to see the world through his own eyes.” (Pawel 160) This comes across clearly in A Hunger Artist as someone who is in a self-imposed solitary confinement seeking meaning to his life, much like the hunger artist being locked in his cage. Thus, Kafka uses A Hunger Artist to speak of himself and his experiences. A Hunger Artist is a short story about a once popular spectacle staged for the entertainment of a pleasure-seeking public: the exhibition of a professional “hunger-artist” performing in a cage of straw, his stunt of fasting. The hunger artist spends his fasting performances, and therefore most of his life, in a cage, on display before a crowd of people. His spectators see him as a trickster and common...

...In this essay I will consider the social, economic and political factors of Technology in the 20th century. The constantly changing fashionable take on Technology in the 20th century demonstrates the depth of the subject. While it has been acknowledged that it has an important part to play in the development of man, several of todays most brilliant minds seem incapable of recognising its increasing relevance to understanding future generations. Since it was first compared to antidisestablishmentarianism much has been said concerning Technology in the 20th century by global commercial enterprises, who are yet to grow accustomed to its disombobulating nature. Complex though it is I shall now attempt to provide an exaustive report on Technology in the 20th century and its numerous 'industries'. As Reflected in classical mythology society is complicated. When Sir Bernard Chivilary said 'hounds will feast on society' [1] he could have been making a reference to Technology in the 20th century, but probably not. Both tyranny and democracy are tried and questioned. Yet Technology in the 20th century smells of success. When one is faced with people of today a central theme emerges - Technology in the 20th century is either adored or despised, it leaves no one undecided. It breaks the mould, shattering man's misunderstanding of man. Derived from 'oikonomikos,' which means skilled in household management, the word economics is synonymous with Technology in the 20th century. We will study...

...“Salvation” This short story by Langston Hughes left me confused. I still wonder if he was saved or not; whether “salvation” should be the title of the story or not. “I was saved from sin when I was going on thirteen. But not really saved.” (Salvation, 351). This is how the story begins, with a contradiction. I suppose this some what grabbed me in interest for a while, but I do have to admit that I never truly understood if Hughes was “saved” or not. It almost seemed to me that there were missing components, that this short story was maybe an excerpt from a larger story. I did not take the time to confirm this or not because I think if I knew for sure, it may take away from my true interpretation of this piece. I found this short story interesting. However, it was very difficult for me to connect with the author. The story was obviously written as recollection of a significant event in Hughes life when he was younger, perhaps because this particular event has affected him throughout his entire life. It is difficult for me to say for sure mostly because I have very little knowledge and understanding of church, religion, or being “saved” even means. So going off of my reaction purely from the way Hughes wrote it, I would have to say that I think he might have spent a long part of his life confused about what happened that day in the church. Hughes was very young this day where he was supposed to “see” Jesus. Being so young I figure he would have taken things he had learned or been...

...Analysis Paper 1 Jennifer Lincoln COUN 620 Liberty University March 29, 2015 In regards to key developmental aspects of human growth in my life and as I integrate Erickson’s eight stages of development into my 48 years of life, I found that many of my transitional tasks were delayed, or not developed according to Erickson’s time frame. This might be due to the dysfunctional lifestyle, neglected childhood and promiscuous teenage years I had and it has taken me many years to develop my sense of identity, my sense of intimacy, and to change my behavior (Feldman, 2011). In the argument of Piaget he says that children at the age of three to five years think abstractly and this affects their motor development (Boyd, 2006). The first ten years of my childhood was confused, isolated, and fearful. I lived with my grandparents and I never could understand why I wasn’t with my parents who were able to take care of my two oldest brothers. I was so tormented in my mind. The devil came in to steal, kill, and destroy me at an early age. I always felt as an outcast and I remembered other children making fun of me calling me names to where I isolated myself from them. My grandmother was a Christian and we went to church in which I loved church. We lived in the country on a farm and I did not like to go out in the open because of the children in the community making fun of me but we had to walk to church. I was afraid and always crying, hiding under beds...

...In 1903, G.E. Moore published Principia Ethica. In this work, he suggests, “…we could not make a proper analysis of some moral concepts such as good and bad, because they are simple properties… unique, unanalysable and indefinable, but simple [qualities] which cannot be identified with any natural object but which we recognise when we see it in things (Agulanna 143).” Recognizing and identifying something as good has to do with our intuition. Our character gives us the tools to define for ourselves what we perceive as good, and whether or not we want to replicate those...

...300 Jonathan Hewitt ENG 225 Cicely Denean-Cobb October 2, 2012 The film I have chosen to do my critique on is Zack Snyder’s 300. 300 is a film about King Leonidas, the King of Sparta, and his 300 Spartan warriors who all stood up against the God-king Xerxes and his massive Persian army from annihilation. After watching the film very closely for my critique I believe there is a serious underlying theme that everyone has the right to be free and sometimes you have to stand up and make sacrifices to keep your freedom. Standing up for freedom is never an easy task as shown in 300 but, everyone deserves to be free. In discussing the storytelling, acting, cinematography, editing, sound, style and directing, the impact of society on the film, genre, a formalist approach to analysis, and the overall textual theme of 300 I will attempt to back up my belief. Storytelling 300’s narrative structure is the first-person point of view of Dilios, a Spartan solider under the command of King Leonidas. The film is presented in chronological order and takes place in Sparta and Thermopylae, Greece. The major conflict in the film is that the Persian army has come to Sparta and requests their submission or will kill them and enslave their women and children. King Leonidas makes the decision to stand up to the Persians but; is not allowed to go to war with the Xerxes, the Persian God-king, because the Ephors deny him the right. The Ephors are later found out to be traitors. Unfortunately,...

...Benefits of Video Games English 223 D 12/5/2012 Intro I have played video games since I was five years old, they have been a huge part of my life. They have made me the person I am today for better or worse, but I believe for the better. They have helped me significantly in my social life. They helped me make friends, and have allowed me to have a common ground with people I would other wise never have anything in common with. It allows me to meet new people and keep in touch with friends in far off places. The challenges that video games have presented me have taught me how to analyze the situation quickly so I can react just as fast. Also I have learned a lot of random facts from video games about the real world. Many of the situations in video games have connections to the real world and thanks to the simulations of real life in video games I know how to react to certain situations or perform certain task appropriately with out actually ever doing them before. I believe video games have many benefits to offer everyone, they have been great to me and I am sure they can help everyone. Video games are deemed as toys with no apparent value but to waste time. This is very untrue, video games can be very beneficial if used properly. They can increase analysis and problem solving skills, they allow people the ability to keep in touch with their friends from all around the world and even make new ones because they have a shared interest, and they can...
