...The Importance of Community Service Summary: Without community service in our society many people would not know the meaning, usefulness, or importance of charity. Serving in your community addresses many grass roots problems that fall through the cracks of government and social agencies. Community service is a very important factor when it comes to bettering your society. Through my own experiences and observations I have come to support and believe my opinion on this issue. My experience that supports this theory involved my job this past summer of 2004. I paced around the house for a while until I finally decided to sit down and read the newspaper. There was a section on the community which contained a list of volunteer activities ranging from helping in soup kitchens to helping as an electrician. I found that it might be interesting to be of assistance to and make a difference to someone this summer rather than get a job to benefit only me. I called a number and decided that I wanted to spend my time taking care of the grocery shopping for an elderly handicapped woman who has since become a good friend. Finally I was spending my time having fun while making a difference in one woman's life.
