The Importance of Community Service

...The Importance of Community Service Summary: Without community service in our society many people would not know the meaning, usefulness, or importance of charity. Serving in your community addresses many grass roots problems that fall through the cracks of government and social agencies. Community service is a very important factor when it comes to bettering your society. Through my own experiences and observations I have come to support and believe my opinion on this issue. My experience that supports this theory involved my job this past summer of 2004. I paced around the house for a while until I finally decided to sit down and read the newspaper. There was a section on the community which contained a list of volunteer activities ranging from helping in soup kitchens to helping as an electrician. I found that it might be interesting to be of assistance to and make a difference to someone this summer rather than get a job to benefit only me. I called a number and decided that I wanted to spend my time taking care of the grocery shopping for an elderly handicapped woman who has since become a good friend. Finally I was spending my time having fun while making a difference in one woman's life. It may not have paid in dollars, but the experience and pleasure I gained was infinitely more valuable to me than any amount of money I could have earned. Also, through volunteering I started to gain more confidence. Instead of being nervous or scared, I saw this as an experience...

...My access When I begin to think about community service I think that what good I can do for others. I have always loved helping anyone out in any way. If I had to think of a community service in order to graduate I would pick anything. It wouldn't matter which one I picked and these are my reasons why. Importance of Collecting Data in Human Services

...Collecting Data Intervention, Direct Service Delivery & Case Management BSHS 405 Stephany Jones Nyiema Carter, Psy D June 8, 2015 Although some may view data collection as tedious, it is an essential component in Human Services as it is the overall purpose of doing an intake and ensures the quality of information. Proper data collection also establishes accountability within the agency, and ensures a successful hand-off from the intake to the assessment process. This paper will detail the importance of appropriate data collections for the intake and assessment forms. The basic premise of the intake process is data collection, and yet the act of collecting data can become tedious. If this is perhaps the thousandth time a human services worker might’ve completed the same form without variation, they may not fully comprehend that what goes in during the intake process, affects what comes out of the helping process. In some cases, intake dictates outcome. In most agencies, the intake and assessment is conducted by two separate Human Services workers; they could sit next two each other or have never interacted whatsoever. Either way, appropriate data collection and notation, becomes as essential during case hand-off as a baton passed between relay racers. Even the simplest aspects of a client’s issue, can be essential during assessment (Summers, 2011). Pertinent elements including small details, if included on the referral...

The Importance Of Respite Care Services In Canada

...In Canada, 14.3% of the population reports having a disability (CCD, 2013). Respite care services are not only beneficial to disabled individuals, but to their families as well; unfortunately, these services have many flaws. To improve them, a uniform, federally funded program would require by law, training of all employees and would not discriminate against any type or severity of disability. There would be specialized workers for especially challenging cases to ensure this inclusion. An advantage to implementing this policy would be that Canadians with disabilities would have equal opportunities to receive respite services regardless of the severity of their disability. St.Amant (2015) states that a common problem with respite care is that...

Diversity in the workplace can be a great strength for an organisation if managed effectively if management make good use of each individual’s values. In order for diversity to be managed effectively and used to the organisations advantage, people-management strategies need to be put in place in order to allow for these differences and allow for people to grow upon them in the organisations favour. Being open to each individuals differences, allows for new ideas to come to light and to be welcoming of different ways of going about tasks. There can however, be issues that arise such as legal implications in regards to discrimination. Discrimination can occur via both indirect and direct means. This is corrected via legislations against the illegal mistreatment and discrimination of employees. Equal Employment Opportunities (EEO) legislations were introduced in order to free all workplaces of discrimination and harassment. Equality and diversity can be thought of in terms of legal aspects, ethical...
