...Feinstein Graduate School Managing Resistance to Change in Leadership Individual Report Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the MBA Degree Course: MGMT 5800 Effective Leadership Dr. Ron A. DiBattista Maheshwari Vansadia January 7, 2013 Summary In today's continuously changing environment organizations are subject to multiple changes that can be related to the organization's strategy, its structure, the employed technology and even more its employees (Desler 2007). Traditionally, managers and individuals with relatively higher positions in the organization are the ones who initiate change. They perceive it as being an opportunity to better serve the organization interest, enforces its mission and enable gaining competitive advantage over its competitors. However not all changes are successful. Managers with a traditional approach to change usually link change failure to “change recipients” resistance to that particular change (Ford, Ford & D'Amelio 2008). As defined in the online Oxford Dictionary « resistance is the refusal to accept or comply with something ».Thus, resisting to change implies stopping this change and preventing the organization from a forward progress. Change implies moving from known to unknown. The fear from losing its benefits, position, status is the main reason beyond resistance to it. Individuals would only accept and comply with an initiated change if it has a positive effect...

...In this report I am going to explain my own role in helping the team to achieve its goal in relation to the team report and the team presentations. Besides I will mention my contribution to the work and how I facilitated the completion of the team goals. My group number 2 consisted of three students: Cris Brown, Max Kelly and me. As we were going to be working together initially we decided to share some experiences and knowledge in order to know ourselves better. When we receive the first topic to work we decided to divide roles and responsibilities: collection of sources, control of formal aspects and availability of hard copies were three responsibilities that were allocated. Thus, we determined that everyone should be responsible for at least two tasks. The case studies were also subdivided by the three members, each of us would have the same number of topics to analyze and structure. As a result my role was collect information about my topics, select the main ideas and then structure my part to include on our presentation. The topics’ division was realized based on the preferences of each student and according with the best capabilities of each member. This way, during all time the distribution was really easy to make and all person agreed with her tasks. This process was used for all course and we didn’t need to change any point. Related to communication between the group, as mentioned on last report, we used the MSN to allocate tasks between meetings and after our tutorial...

...Individual Report #1: Movie Analysis In chapter twelve on page 269 it states, “The convenience of electronic communication does not diminish the importance of face-to-face meetings. Relying totally on electronic communication often diminishes the bonding and synergy that happens when team members meet and work face-to-face.” In this report I will discuss how my group, The Micro Bites, found out just how true the statement on page 269 is. I will also apply other concepts from chapter one of my textbook “Working in Groups.” Our group contains four members: Mrs. Ward, Mr. Brady, Miss Perez, and of course, myself. According to chapter one on page four of my textbook our group is within the range of the number of members a group should generally have to be productive. However, we did have one person in the group that did not participate. Although we were lacking one person, our group was still able to be productive and finish the presentation, but it did make it more difficult and cause more tension and conflict among the group. We chose to mainly use asynchronous communication because only two of the group members, Miss Nohemi and I, live on school campus. So, in order for our group to communicate we utilized the discussion thread on the online classroom system and sent text messages back and forth. Throughout the whole presentation process I felt it was rather confusing on which posts on the online classroom system were pertaining to the presentation because we had so many...

Even identical twins are not identical because of differences in their personalities. We can define personality as the range different styles of thinking, acting and feeling. For example, some people are very talkative and outgoing, on the other hand some people are very quiet and shy. That is because of the differences in personalities. I have always wanted to discover my deep characteristics for a long time that is why this assignment was a good beginning for me. Being a front desk cashier, I present the activity reports on the weekly basis. Sales of the previous week illustrated a good picture of the working of the gas station. The average sales per day ranged from 9,000 litres- 10,000 litres. Some of the leadership skills and qualities I’ve identified in me, are as follows: * Courage * Self Confidence * Intelligence * Knowledge * Punctuality * Humility 1.2 Rank your current ability in those areas. If I was to rank my abilities, I’d do it as follows: * Courage (5/10) * Self Confidence (4/10) * Intelligence (5/10) * Knowledge (4/10) * Punctuality (3/10) * Humility (5/10) * Commitment (5/10) * Patience (5/10) 1.3 Give reasons for your ranking. I think I have the courage to do things but I lack the self confidence. I believe that I’m a little on intelligence and knowledge but I still lack the punctuality. I’m always humble towards others. If I commit myself to do a work, I dont leave it until its completed. I also believe that I have a lot of patience and am always willing to wait. 1.4 Support the reasons for your ranking with evidence. Courage is what I believe I have, because it was not easy for me to travel to New Zealand, where I knew nobody. But I lack the self confidence which makes me feel somewhat shy to talk to new people. And also, I have good grasping skills and am a fast learner, which I can account into intelligence. But still, I have to learn a lot of new things which are not known to me. And I also...

...ggrgegregrgregrg fefe A report or account is any informational work (usually of writing, speech, television, or film) made with the specific intention of relaying information or recounting certain events in a widely presentable form. Written reports are documents which present focused, salient content to a specific audience. Reports are often used to display the result of an experiment, investigation, or inquiry. The audience may be public or private, an individual or the public in general. Reports are used in government, business, education, science, and other fields. Reports use features such as graphics, images, voice, or specialized vocabulary in order to persuade that specific audience to undertake an action. One of the most common formats for presenting reports is IMRAD: Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion. This structure is standard for the genre because it mirrors the traditional publication of scientific research and summons the ethos and credibility of that discipline. Reports are not required to follow this pattern, and may use alternative patterns like the problem-solution format. Additional elements often used to persuade readers include: headings to indicate topics, to more complex formats including charts, tables, figures, pictures, tables of contents, abstracts, and nouns summaries, appendices, footnotes, hyperlinks, and references. Some examples of reports are: scientific reports, recommendation reports, white papers, annual reports, auditor's reports, workplace...

...the height of the staircase, etc. Next is the survey result of the building performance. We need to design a survey in which aims to investigate the opinions of the residents of the building, it is about their feeling of building performance. For example, we looked into the barrier free access in which at there is enough or not, or the noise problem at there. Also, we have asked the extra opinions of the residents that in which part of the building need improvement such as its finishes of the building. After the group project and the presentation, I have learnt many useful things that I never met before. At the beginning of the project, I think it is just a simply task for me to do, like in the secondary school. No matter the school report or the school assignment before, all the information are searched from the Internet, and I just collect these information and copy and paste in my project or assignment. When there is needed a teamwork for the school project, we communicate through the mobile phone only, and we done our part of the project without viewing the process each other. And it combined each part without any correction...

...Cooper looked into the report and realized that something was wrong with the reports and confronted Mr. Bobbitt about the findings. Mr. Bobbitt in the audit committee would take a look and see if the findings that Mrs. Cooper were valid. After finding that the findings were valid she then contact Mr. Farrell and he did an external investigation. After further investigation that the mid-level accounting directors Mr. Normand had confessed to just going along with what Mr. Sullivan had explained to him about the reports because he was afraid to tell anyone and wanted to resign. He was afraid that if he told anyone that he would lose his job and had a family to support. When looking at WorldCom situation it was good that the internal auditor committee took charge of the situation when it was brought to them. That was very ethical and then to have the external auditors take over to review the matter was the right step. Now the fact that you had an accountant that your CFO making false reports and switching money around is not very ethical. Not only did your CFO bring another person into the fraudulent reports, but now an external investigation has to be done and reported. There will be hefty fines and jail time for people in the company that went along with unethical behavior. The accounting activity was and was not affected by the internal stakeholders because some people are not directly affected by the unethical behavior and fraud that certain individuals have posted. Now the...

...1.0 Introduction Armco Inc. is a steel manufacturer that used to be the sixth largest in its industry in US (in 1990). The Kansas City Works within its Midwestern Steel Division was hit by the decline in the business in the US steel industry despite its good performance in the past. Consequently, it downsized and incurred significant losses in most of the 1980s. This entity produces two primary products including grinding media and carbon wire rod, one being recognized in the industry for its durability while the later being non profitable and only covering some of its fixed costs through volume. 2.0 What’s wrong with the old system? (a) Inconsistency with organization’s strategy The Objective of Armco Inc. is maximizing profits and sustaining its position among the leaders in the US manufacturing steel industry. To achieve this objective, Armco has adopted a cost leadership strategy with a broad appeal and has managed to grow bigger through joint ventures and expansion of its product lines in implementing its strategy. However, the strategy adopted by the Kansas City Works is based on differentiation due to its cost disadvantages such as union labor costs and inefficient plant infrastructure.Union labor costs in Kansas City were higher than those of some of its nonunion competitors, particularly those located in the Southeastern U.S. and non-U.S. locations. The Works had an inefficient plant infrastructure because the plant was designed to accommodate five times as many employees...

Scenario 2: Administration of Patient Medications in the Hospital Setting As a new graduate nurse working nights on a busy medical unit medication error is a possibility. Reporting a medication incident as a novice nurse becomes very challenging. Although it is unethical, dangerous, and possibly grounds for a lawsuit, I think as a newly graduate nurse clinician I may choose not to report the incident, because first of the fear of being reprimanded and possibly terminated. Then also fear of being reported to the licensing boards and possible losing my license to practice nursing. Another reason would be it will damage my self-confidence and attach a stigma of untrustworthiness among my colleagues. I will become so terrified of losing my job that I...
