Topic 1: Foreign Exchange Mechanism of Mercantile Bank limited.

Objective of the Report
General Objective
The main objectives of the study to gain practical exposures about “Foreign Exchange Mechanism: a comprehensive Study of Mercantile bank Ltd.
Specific Objectives
The specific focuses of the study are: * To know the regulation and deregulation regarding Foreign Exchange in Bangladesh. * To analyze the export and Import procedure maintained by Mercantile Bank Ltd. * To Know about Remittance Funds. * To identify the problems in export and import operation of Mercantile Bank Ltd. * And finally to recommend suggestions for the successful export and import operation of Mercantile Bank Ltd. Scope of the Report
This study addresses itself to the services offered by the Mercantile Bank Limited in their Foreign Exchange department. The scope of this report is limited to the corporate clients of import and export departments of Mercantile Bank Limited. The clients to be included in this report are all local & foreign banks who are engaged in foreign exchange business with MBL. The aim is officers of this bank also come under the scope of this study. To show the position of this bank, a few other banks located in Dhaka city will also take into consideration for the purpose of this study.

Methodology of the report Primary surces * Face-to-Face conversation with the respective officers and staffs. * Sharing practical knowledge of the Officials. Secondary Sources * Annual Report of Mercantile Bank Ltd. * Bangladesh Bank publications. * Websites, Relevant Books, Research Papers, and Journals.

Limitation of the report
Since the report has to be made parallel to office work within three months, time might be a major constraint in accumulating all sorts of information. Confidentiality of data might be another important barrier that might be faced during the conduct of this study. Every organization has their own secrecy that is not revealed to others. While collecting data on Mercantile Bank, it will be obvious that employees will not disclose enough information for the sake of confidentiality of the organization.

Topic 2: Retail Banking Operation of Mercantile Bank ltd.

The broad objective of the study is to draw an overall view of the MBL retail products standing in perspective of contribution strength in profit making and then to identify the ways to improve the current position of retail business.

More specifically, this study entails the following aspects: * To measure Investment in Bank products of the Sales unit. * To measure door to door banking habituate of our countries people

Scope of the Report
The report covers: * Different features of retail products. * Procedures of sanctioning retail loan. * Position of retail loan.

The primary data of this report are: * Direct interview of senior product manager of the bank. * Practical experiences gained during performing duties in different desks and departments.

Secondary Source
Sources of secondary information are as follows: * Annual report of MBL. * Printed forms and documentation supplied by MBL. * Booklets of international division of MBL. * Different publications and journals regarding banking activities and policies. * Auditors report of MBL. * Website of MBL.

Limitation of the report * Preparing an assignment on a book is quite difficult for an individual. it wiil be hard for me to gather the data in such a short period of time. * Insufficient supply of relevant books and journals. * Bank officials for security reasons, declined the request for providing information in some crucial issues. * In many cases, up to date information could be a fact. * Three month is not adequate time to gain practical knowledge and prepare a report.

Topic 3: Credit Management Procedure of Mercantile Bank Limited.

Objectives of the report
The present study has been designed to achieve the following objectives: * To have better orientation on credit management activities. * To find out the strengths and weakness of the credit procedure method. * To identify the factors that must be considered and analyzed by the bank and financial institutions in determining the credit worthiness of the client. * To get an overall idea about the performance of Mercantile Bank Ltd.

The study would focus on the following areas of Mercantile Bank Limited: Credit management system of Mercantile Bank Limited. Procedure for different credit facilities. Portfolio (Loan or advances) management of Mercantile Bank Limited. Organization structures and responsibilities of management.
Each of the above areas would be critically analyzed in order to determine the efficiency and effectiveness of Credit Management System of Mercantile Bank Limited

Methodology of the report

Both primary and secondary data sources will be used to generate this report. Primary data sources are informal discussion with professionals and observation while working in different desks. The secondary data sources are annual reports, manuals, and brochures of Mercantile Bank Limited and different publications of Bangladesh Bank. To identify the implementation, supervision, monitoring and repayment practice- interview with the employee and extensive study of the existing file will be done. Limitations of the Study

* This report only considers Credit Management System of MBL. * Time frame for the research is very limited. * In many cases, up to date information is not published. * Getting Relevant papers and documents are strictly prohibited. * Due to lack of practical experience, some errors might be occurred during the study.
