...Interprofessional Collaboration By: Faith Syders Healthcare organizations are growing and changing in the recent years. The way healthcare is delivered is changing also. One of the changes that are occurring in healthcare recently is interprofessional collaboration. All of the staff members caring for the patients are starting to use a team approach to the delivery of care. Management is training staff to use interprofessional collaboration model for delivery of care. There are some things to consider when analyzing the interprofessional collaboration model. The teamwork model of interprofessional collaboration has benefits. The staff members, patients, and the overall healthcare organization all benefit from this model. When management is interviewing potential employee’s they are looking for desirable characteristics to add to the teamwork model. Management also uses strategies for working effectively as a team when working with and training team members. At times, there will be ethical considerations that need to be addressed. Also, how will a management team introduce interprofessional collaboration when it is not the current model being utilized currently? The benefits of interprofessional collaboration cross the lines for the staff member, patient and the health care organization. Each group has their own benefits from the teamwork. The pieces of the team bring the benefits together to create a successful teamwork model. Staff members have benefits...

...Discussion The broad topic addressed interprofessional collaboration between healthcare professions. Each reviewer has their own profession Respiratory Therapy, Nursing, and Diagnostic Sonography. We are individually putting emphasis on our chosen profession, I would consider that to be a limitation. Each of us has to focus on our own career path, my profession is Respiratory Therapy. I had to limit my sections to focus more on this field. Focusing on Respiratory Therapy also fits in with the category of being biased, but it was intentional. Many of the articles only picked up the keyword respiratory therapy and did not focus on collaboration between healthcare professionals. I had to stay away from the articles that were too narrow in the topic. Reading and narrowing down articles was the most time consuming part of writing this systematic review. When selecting my articles and trying to modify each search I noticed that there was only one article that was not english, based on this information I did not miss out on an non-english publications. The articles that were chosen fit best with this systematic review based on each study’s population, intervention, and outcome....

...Enhanced interprofessional collaboration (IPC) is identified as an approach in which health care systems are transformed and addressing issues related to a shortage of health-care workers. As a result, Regan, Laschinger & Wong (2015) found that through the provision of effective organizational support, it is possible for IPC to be effectively promoted. The purpose of conducting this study was for the evaluation of the impact of professional nursing practice environments, authentic leadership, and structural empowerment on experienced nurses’ perceptions of interprofessional collaboration. A predictive non-experimental approach was employed to evaluate the impacts of authentic leadership, structural empowerment, and professional nursing practice settings on nurses perceived interprofessional...

...Weller et al. (2014) highlighted that healthcare training is mostly discipline specific and there is usually very minimal education about or between other professions. However, for effective collaboration to occur, there is a need for joint education programmes (Illingworth and Chelvanayagam 2007), especially in the early stages of professional preparation (Department of Health 2001). Therefore, in line with the 2020 Workforce Vision to “work seamlessly with colleagues and partner organisations”, a strategy introduced in 2008 to strengthen interprofessional collaboration was to implement a common core curriculum, IPE, in higher education institutions (Trueland 2010). IPE is defined as “occasions when two or more professions learn from, with and about each other” (Herring et al. 2013) to attain mutual mutual understanding and respect for...

...Interprofessional collaboration is a great asset to ensure patient satisfaction through excellent delivery of quality patient care. It serves as an approach to changing traditional, silo-type patient care because it helps to create an environment that obligates each team member to stay active within their roles. As each member fulfills their role, the work load is divided, relieving frustration and overworked feelings that one would feel within a silo type patient care environment. “Interprofessional teams include physicians, nurses at different levels, certified medical assistants, dietitians, nutritionists, pharmacists, physician assistants, social workers, mental health workers, health navigators, health coaches, community health workers,...

...Collaborative practice is seen as an answer to many of the concerns facing contemporary health care because of its correlation with more successful patient outcomes, continuity of care, decreased costs of providing care, job satisfaction, and the promotion of professional identity. Collaboration is a substantive idea repeatedly discussed in health care circles. The benefits are well validated. Yet collaboration is seldom practiced. So what is the problem? The lack of a shared definition is one barrier. Additionally, the complexity of collaboration and the skills required to facilitate the process are formidable. Collaboration is both a process and an outcome in which shared interest or conflict that cannot be addressed by any single individual...

...as a team effectively, the team must work together and communicate effectively in order to accomplish any set desired goal. As healthcare providers it is a necessity that we work as a team in a collaborative effort to provide quality healthcare. So I do believe in and agree the importance of collaboration. The 10 lessons in collaboration identified by Deborah Gardner in her abstract all in some way involve methods, paradigms and or concepts designed to equip healthcare providers with tools to become better communicators. In lesson one "know thyself" she implies by a healthcare provider understanding and being aware of their own values, strengths, weaknesses and dynamics of their own personality. By pursuing questionable oneself it is "requires the dualistic pursuit of self-knowledge and knowledge of others’ mental models” ( (Deborah Gardner PhD, 2005). Inadvertently, while seeking to understand and know yourself you learn and understand other people. so there is a dual benefit. Creating win-win situations, mastering interpersonal skills, and learning to value and manage diversity are other lessons and Dr. Gardner’s abstract that are useful not only in healthcare providers collaboration with one another but with healthcare providers communication with patients and everyday life situations. EMTs, paramedics, nurses and respiratory therapist administration periodically gather prior to shifts and discuss matters that need to be addressed. The small window of time grants us the...

Contained in this paper is the strategic plan created by the team to aid in team and management collaboration, training programs, and tactics in identifying and minimizing conflict within teams. Presenting the Operational Change Before the team creates a strategic plan, management should not inform employees of the change because this may create problems among the employees. They may think jobs are at risk or the company is closing. After the plan is created, management should provide employees with details of the plan that affect them. These details will include the organization’s mission, how it intends to fulfill that mission, and the plan to train employees and provide them with the tools needed to perform effectively their tasks during and after the operational change. Training of Multiple Audiences Training provides education, raises awareness, opportunities to prevent fraud, improve ethical practices, and increases short and long-term company profits. The training plan is designed to maintain the following principles (Robbins & Judge, 2011): • Training goal – training managers will design curricula to help achieve effective communication, collaboration, and conflict management...

...Evolution to Collaborative Networks March 7, 2012 Abstract From the beginning of man there have been many various forms of collaborative networks. Beginning crudely in clans, evolving to cultures, societies, governments, and finally in the market place. This paper examines the history and evolution of many of the most popular forms of collaborative networks in businesses from the early 1900s to the present day. It will examine the research claims as the best practices for the day, how it has evolved and what has caused collaborative networks to mature to the present day thinking. Finally, based on the historical evidence and its direction, observe what visionary direction the research should be looking to. Keywords: collaborative advantage, collaborative networks, co-operation, joint ventures, leadership, open markets, vertical integration. Evolution to Collaborative Networks Introduction It is no longer a secret in the business world today that competition is fierce. In every segment, the market is changing at an alarming rate. Product life cycles that used to last for years and decades are now only lasting for mere months. No company knows exactly what direction the market will go, so they are seeking the greatest intelligence to gain the greatest advantage. In the past it was to a firm’s advantage to obtain new information and keep it from their competitors and even their suppliers, but today’s technologies have evened the playing field. The elements that brought...

...connection, and web-based collaboration tools like blogs, and wikis, and has as such created a "mass collaboration. People from all over the world are efficiently able to communicate and share ideas through the internet, or even conferences, without any geographical barriers. The power of social networks it beginning to permeate into business culture where many collaborative uses are being found including knowledge sharing and transfers. Here I thought of an idea that will improve business collaboration; this idea comes from the idea of Facebook, but in a professional manner. It’s a website similar to Facebook that’s uses the Internet as a common meeting and work space, and it will enable companies to raise their informations and their profile which will serve to identify these companies at their country and even at the international level. In this site we will know all about these companies such as name, financial capital, legal status, field of activity, workforce and skills working in these companies, projects carried, future plans and experiences. It is a way of coordinating different ideas from numerous people to generate a wide variety of knowledge. Collaboration in business can be found both inter- and intra-organization and ranges from the simplicity of a partnership and crowd funding to the complexity of a multinational corporation. Thanks to this website we will improve the productivity of the company that’s based on the principle of collaboration which has been shown...

...INTRODUCTION Partnerships are defined by the Audit Commission (1998) as “joint working arrangements where parties are otherwise independent bodies who agree to co-operate to achieve common goals, create a new organisational structure or process to achieve these goals, plan and implement a joint programme and share relevant information, tasks and rewards”. Stern and Green (2005) clarify the definition of partnerships further as programmes that have “a high level of commitment, mutual trust, equal ownership and the achievement of a common goal, as distinct from networks which involve sharing information or other resources but not for the explicit purpose of joint working”. Definitions are particularly significant to the topic of this essay, as the component characteristics of partnerships as set out above are often overlooked by organisations and individuals when approaching the delivery of activities ‘in partnership’. In theory, partnership involves collaborative working where people pool ideas and expertise, so the leadership, energy and services produced are greater than the sum of their individual capabilities. It also requires re-thinking the remit or boundaries of organisations within which leadership is to be distributed and respected. This is particularly relevant when considering partnerships to deliver single outcome agreements that have previously been the responsibility of one body, or several bodies in isolation. These are challenges to which public sector...

...Technological Advancements in Communication Advancement in technological communication listed in the article was collaborative tools. One in which is called the smartsheet. The smartsheet was a place where many companies or parties involved in communicating could add to which each of their ideas and findings. Even if several languages are used. Instead of hundreds of emails being corresponded, each person uses the smartsheet to communicate, sharing data and information. This method of collaborative communication is lower cost as low as $25 each month, compared to other collaborative methods such as the Web 2.o Mashup server software which can cost a company a minimum of $50,000. The Mashup Server software does offer more features where it acts as a one stop shop for research, training, communication, wiki and even instant messaging. I feel that the Mashup Server software would be more beneficial in a workplace because it logs all communication while keeping everyone formal. This form of communication is not traditional and would be hard to get everyone on board. If people are used to corresponding via email and instant messaging, implementing a new program would cause resistance to change. One reason the resistance to the change would arise would be because the difficulty of merging the new software with other operating software programs already in place or the level of difficulty in learning the new system. The reason it is not traditional is because it is newer than emailing...

...Assignment 2 -report- completed as (part of) the requirements for 'Collaborative Business Processes 31247' What are aspects of collaboration in business goals, deliverables, activities, design and technology? Collaboration involves the use of Information Technology and other tools to assist groups of people to achieve a shared task. Collaboration processes are infused in business processes and therefore are present in the creation of business goals, deliverables, activities, design and technology. Business Goals The creation of business goals is an important process in establishing the foundations for a business’ direction. Collaboration tools are used to facilitate team meetings and the communication of ideas between members of a group. The use of such tools fosters discussion allowing each member to provide their specialised skill set and knowledge to the group. The use of online collaboration resources, such as social networks and web applications allows each member of the group to contribute from any location or device that has Internet access. Deliverables The creation of deliverables is subjected to a collaboration process. Reports, overviews and analysis are made through a collaborative effort with several people often contributing to the creation of a deliverable item. Those items can then be further subjected to a collaborative process and used by another group of people to create another item, report or idea. Collaborative tools, such as Google...

...going well. Different people will have different definitions of teamwork. In my point of view, teamwork is not one’s self managing one’s self but a group of individuals managing each other. Such a challenge can present a variety of differences in terms of learning, communication styles, comprehension limitation, etc. Therefore, in this paper, I’d like to identify one of the most significant issues of teamwork that I’ve learnt during the campaign, that is, Collaboration. Collaboration is just like playing football when a person passes the ball, other people will attempt to keep it. Once a person loses the ball, the whole team will be affected. Indeed, collaboration is actively finding an effective way to perform the task and to work well with the team in order to get high quality of work. Collaboration works best when team members sit together, set goals and values for what team members will do, then share those common goals and values. Participation, communication, trust, honesty and respect are extremely important in collaboration. So, why is this significant to me? Well, because I’ve faced with challenges in collaborating with others many times during the campaign. As this course does not have frequent classes and team members were busy with their own...
