AUTOBIOGRAPHY
Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci
Born on April 15, 1452, in Vinci, Italy, Leonardo da Vinci was the epitome of a “Renaissance man.” Possessor of a curious mind and keen intellect, da Vinci studied the laws of science and nature, which greatly informed his work as a painter, sculptor, architect, inventor, military engineer and draftsman. His ideas and body of work—which includes "Virgin of the Rocks," "The Last Supper" and "Mona Lisa"—have influenced countless artists and made da Vinci a leading light of the Italian Renaissance.
Leonardo was, and is, renowned primarily as a painter. Among his works, the Mona Lisa is the most famous and most parodied portrait and The Last Supper the most reproduced religious painting of all time, with their fame approached only by Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam.
Leonardo died at Clos Lucé, France, on May 2, 1519. François I had become a close friend. Vasari records that the King held Leonardo's head in his arms as he died, although this story, beloved by the French and portrayed in romantic paintings by Ingres, Ménageot and other French artists, may be legend rather than fact.
Da Vinci has been called a genius and the archetypal Renaissance man. His talents inarguably extended far beyond his artistic works. Like many leaders of Renaissance humanism, he did not see a divide between science and art.

STYLE OF PAINTING da Vinci’s Painting Technique
Throughout his years (1452-1519), Leonardo da Vinci employed a variety of techniques from painting on a dry stone wall to using wet plaster depending on the work surface he was commissioned to paint. Leonardo da Vinci typically painted with oil paint that he made by hand from ground pigments; later in his career, he worked with tempera made from egg whites. His work surface typically would be a canvas or board, or sometimes

...direction of a doctor. They are trained to examine, diagnose, and treat patients. From what I have seen they do almost everything a doctor does and it requires less schooling. This is a position I see myself working towards because I have a passion for helping people. Physician Assistant also known as a PA, typically work under the supervision of a physician or surgeon. PA’s provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services (Physician Assistant, 2012). PAs perform physical examinations, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret lab tests, perform procedures, assist in surgery, provide patient education and counseling and make rounds in hospitals and nursing homes (Quick Facts). There are several ways a PA can benefit the organization; due to their general medical background they are flexible in the types of medicine they practice. Studies have shown PA’s have the ability to increase the cost effectiveness of healthcare (Quick Facts). The high quality of care they provide is comparable to physicians. PA’s not only treat disease, but they also promote health, decreasing healthcare demand through preventive care. Compared to physicians, PA education costs less and...

Ethical and Legal Issues of Physician-Assisted Suicide

...Although the physician does not directly end the patient’s life, physician-assisted suicide (PAS) occurs when the physician provides the means (i.e. information or drugs) to commit suicide. Patients who request PAS from their doctors usually suffer from terminal illnesses, such as AIDS, cancer, or neurological disorders, in which death is inevitable, and it is estimated that 12% of physicians receive at least one request for PAS per year (Beck, Wallace, Starks & Pearlman, 1996). While some people believe that the ability to end life in those cases is critical for preserving human dignity, PAS is still a controversial topic because others do not consider assisted suicide moral. The main argument against PAS is that it is contradictory to traditional religious beliefs and philosophical systems. For example, suicide has been considered a sin by the Catholic Church because the people believed God was responsible for creating life and was therefore the only one who had the right to take it (New York State Task Force on Life and the Law [NYSTF], 1994). Although that belief cannot be proven in science, some social groups still consider that God is the only one with the right to take life, and their personal beliefs must be respected. In Ancient Greece, suicide had also been regarded as an abandonment of duty, but current trends are starting to favor individual well-being over compliance to social norms and expectations. Some physicians also believe that using anesthetics should...

Efter avoid følger en ing-form fx: “If the ice cap melts, even London cannot avoid to be flooded due to rising tides.” (even London cannot avoid being flooded) Efter avoid og visse andre verber følger altid en ing-form. I...

Critical Review

...This is a review of article titled, “Clinical Governance, Performance Appraisal and Interactional and Procedural Fairness at a New Zealand Public Hospital” by Clarke, Harcourt, and Flynn (2013) which focuses on performance appraisal (PA). The intention of the article is two-fold. It explores how nurses perceive fairness in the process of their PA and how the perceptions can affect the effectiveness of PA. Twenty-two participants of nurses from a single department of a public hospital participated in interviews and focus groups held over a period of two months. Qualitative data collected through the interviews and focus groups were taped, transcribed and subsequently interpreted by thematic analysis. The article concluded that injustices were perceived the greatest in procedural justice. Participants felt that there was insufficient notice given to prepare. The article found that employees valued regular communication of expectations and progress prior to PA. The article recommends greater formalization of PA process and adequate training for both the appraiser and employee for a PA process to be effective. The strength of the article is in the phenomenon of the study, to explore perceived injustices of PA so that the effectiveness can be improved. PA will always remain an integral part of staff management in an organization (Kim & Rubianty, 2011). It is an important tool to assess employees’ efficiency, correct disparities, identify opportunities for skills development, select...

Physician-Assisted Suicide Must Be Legalized

...good care of your body, you eat right, you get plenty of exercise, and you see your doctor once a year. At the doctor’s office, the doctor informs you that there is no easy way of telling you that a large amount of cancer cells have been found in your blood work. As you try to speak, he continues to inform you that the cancer cells have completely taken over your blood and have migrated to your vital organs. As you try to speak again, he interrupts you one more time, however, this time it is to deliver the final blow; you only have six weeks left to live, which you will surely spend in extreme pain and unremitting suffering as your body goes into complete organ failure. Would you not want the option to end your pain and suffering and die with at least a little dignity? This is what physician-assisted suicide (PAS), if legalized, would offer terminally ill patients. The strongest argument made on behalf of the legalization of PAS is that it, like abortion, it is a choice issue. Proponents continue to argue that PAS is the ultimate civil right,...

Akron Case Analysis

...finishing aspects of flooring; it simply provides the material. This material is sold to finishers independent of the company, who then adjust the material to fit various car models. The company announces prices for its products every six months. One of its offerings, Carpet PA-2, is made using a special machine that cannot be used to make any other line of flooring. To improve Carpet PA-2’s margin, the company decided to increase its price per square yard from $3.95 to $4.75, effective January 1, 2003—a decision made in part due to the company’s anticipation of a large fund need in the near future. Their competitors, however, held their prices constant at $3.95 on carpets competitive with PA-2. The subsequent two seasons saw a drop-off in the company’s sales of Carpet PA-2. With this decrease in market share, the company must now decide whether to keep its price at $4.75 per square yard, or to scale it back down to $3.95. The company projects sales of 75,000 sq. yards due to the higher quality of Carpet PA-2 in comparison to the competition, but foresees sales of 150,000 sq. yards if it drops back to the old price. Moreover, the other products of Akron are not affected by the sales of PA-2. The other companies are also not expected to decrease their prices when faced with a decrease in price from Akron, due to their precarious financial position and lower efficiency compared to Akron. Hence we ask: What was the relationship (if any)...

Partnership agreement is not necessary a verbal agreement would classed as a partnership. However majority of partnerships tend to have a written agreement s1(1) of PA 1890 defines a partnership as : ‘...the relation which subsists between persons carrying on a business in common with a view of profit’ S45 of the act defines business as ‘....the term “business” includes every trade, occupation and profession.’ BUT a partnership cannot exist with a entity i.e. a business, it has to be individuals or a group of individuals. This is then called ‘the firm’ (s4(1)). Though this is not a separate entity and does not have a separate legal personality. Saying this there can be a partnership between more than one company (corporate partnership), between more than two individuals (group) and sub-partnerships which is partnership within a partnership. The partnership is contractual mainly in nature, but because it is also a fiduciary relationship equity also comes in to play. The Legal and Ethical Dilemma of Physician Assisted Suicide

...suicide in Michigan, Georgia, and Oregon. The purpose of this paper is to provide the reader with information on the state’s most current laws regarding assisted suicide and how the case of People v. Kevorkian was a unique case involving physician-assisted suicide. The Ethical Debate of PAS In his article, Hosseini (2012), argued that physician-assisted suicide (PAS), is a moral and ethical dilemma faced by physicians, ethicists, legal experts, and others. Hosseini went on to explain that PAS is opposed by the American Medical Association (AMA) and all the US states except for Oregon. In his research, Hosseini (2012) used the case, People v. Kevorkian, as a basis to argue that although there is an ethical dilemma surrounding PAS, it was not the act alone that resulted in Dr. Kevorkian’s arrest and sentence. Hosseini posed the question in his research “Is Physician-Assisted Suicide Ethical?” to which he answered “… this problem too has two sides to be considered; we can also find ethical justification for the other side of the argument.” (p 5). According to Hosseini (2012) there were arguments both in favor and against PAS. Hosseini began with identifying the following arguments in favor of PAS: 1. Respect for autonomy: Using the...

Rebuilding Public Affairs

...challenge within the command and in the Southwest regional offices. Recently, leadership has begun revitalizing the program with the use of a Public Affairs Officer that has been permanently assigned to deal with the issues of starting a Public Affairs program. Summary The Public Affairs(PA) program has been nonexistent in the last four years at the Navy command, Navy Region Southwest Reserve Component Command (NRSWRCC). The program has had no one in charge of the program at the command or its subordinate commands throughout the Southwest. The program lacks leadership, implementation, structure, training, equipment, and manpower. Background Public Affairs (PA) is a term for the formal offices of the branches of the United States Department of Defense whose purpose is to deal with the media and community issues. The term is also used for numerous media relations offices that are created by the U.S. military for more specific limited purposes. PA offices are staffed by a combination of officers, enlisted personnel, civilian officials and contract professionals. Public Affairs offices play a key role in contingency and deployed operations (SECNAVINST, 2012). The typical PA office is led by an officer who is in charge of planning, budgeting for, executing and evaluating the effectiveness of public affairs programs, and provides public affairs advice, counsel and support for commanders and senior staff members. Lidl Analysis

...Inledning.
