...The British car manufacturer, Jaguar plc, has experienced a turnaround in profitability over the past four years. As a result of this recent success, the British Government has decided to return the company to the private sector through a public offering of the stock. Through an analysis of Jaguar’s profits over the past four years, it is apparent that the majority of their success can be attributed to the appreciation of the US Dollar. Like any multinational company, Jaguar plc, is exposed to exchange rate risk, and thus it is necessary to acknowledge this risk and appropriately hedge against it. Taking this into account, Jaguar must make strategic and calculated decisions to ensure that the company becomes more resilient to interest rate swings through growing it profits organically. Jaguar needs to mitigate its risk by implementing the proper hedge. We determined that a 50% forward hedge would be appropriate given the exchange rate in place. By using the historical data given, we were able to make forecast predictions for an income statement over a stretch of three years. The rolling hedge will provide a three-year time frame that will allot Jaguar sufficient time to implement its new company wide initiatives that are aimed at driving down costs. For Mexico, this was a decisive step away from a protectionism model toward a free trade market. One of the main purposes for Mexico in joining NAFTA was to increase the competitiveness of its manufacturing sector, especially the automotive industry. In this paper, Porter’s Diamond Model of national competitiveness and some critiques that attempt to extend the usefulness of the model are analyzed. The Doubled Diamond and the role of MNEs in a host country are both examined through a case study research of the foreign-owned automobile industry in Mexico. In this case study, the project given is staking 15 claims in Eagle Lake, Alaska. He is a geological field technician and field coordinator for Arctic Mining Consultants.
