...Confessions of an Economic Hit Man By John Perkins Preface Economic hit men (EHMs) are highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. They funnel money from the World Bank, U.S. Agency for International Development, and other foreign “aid” organizations into the coffers of huge corporations and the pockets of a few wealthy families who control the planet's natural resources. Their tools include fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex, and murder. They play a game as old as empire, but one that has taken on new and terrifying dimensions during this time of globalization. I should know; I was an EHM. I wrote that in 1982, as the beginning of a book with the working title Conscience of an Economic Hit Man. The book was dedicated to the presidents of two countries, men who had been my clients, whom I respected and thought of as kindred spirits—Jaime Roldós, president of Ecuador, and Omar Torrijos, president of Panama. Both had just died in fiery crashes. Their deaths were not accidental. They were assassinated because they opposed that fraternity of corporate, government, and banking heads whose goal is global empire. A confession of a greedy man, a man who allowed himself to be an economic hit man, a man who took advantage of that he was born in one of the wealthiest societies in the world. Perkins shares his knowledge about how one country wants to control the wealth of the whole world, corporatocracy. What he shows is that in developing countries there is a huge gap between rich and poor, usually only one family controls the most of the wealth in the country. United States provide loans ‘for development’ through organizations like The World Bank and USAID. By those loans they create a vision that they help poor people to get jobs and to have a better life, but in reality only wealthy people get the benefits. Country can’t cope with the loan and therefore becomes obligated to United States. Perkins describes his life as an economic hit man, his work in MAIN. He was MAIN’s economic hit man, provided economic forecasts in favor for the loan. Perkins also describes how he stopped taking part in making less developed countries obligated to United States. Perkins begun writing the book in 1980, but threats and bribes always convinced him to stop. Even though, the book was finally published in 2004. ...Reflection for Confessions of an Economic Hitman This story addresses a very important matter between the United States and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The United States uses many tactics to get what they want and to make things happen. Also, the United States keeps many of its operations classified so people don’t know what is going on. The main reason behind the matter between both countries is because Saudi Arabia announced an embargo. This is where the United States decided to send a man from one of their organizations to make a deal with the Saudi’s, his name was John Perkins. Perkins, an economic hitman, was brought in for a particular job. His job was to develop forecasts that predict what might happen in Saudi Arabia if vast amounts of money were invested in its infrastructure, and to map out scenarios for spending the money. Everything he did was classified and top secret because no one can know about his job; not even his wife! This was a highly secret operation.
