...KOT TASK 2 Running head: KOT TASK 2 1 KOT TASK 2 MISTY PLATT WESTERN GOVERNORS Organizational Systems & Quality Leadership KOT1 Mentor: Dr. Vanessa Lee March 25, 2013 KOT TASK 2 KOT TASK 2 SCENERIO #1 The problem that Mrs. Zwick is facing is a problem that many Americans face each year with their healthcare. The immune-compromised patients and elderly patients are victims of 2 hospital acquired infections, all of which can be prevented by following procedures for infection control prevention such as proper hand-washing technique. While being a patient in a skilled nursing home due to mild stroke complications, Mrs. Zwick was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection that was deemed to be a hospital-acquired infection due to non-compliant care with her urinary catheter. Due to this unforeseen infection, Mrs. Zwick’s hospital stay was extended to a total of forty days instead of the expected twenty-one days. Naturally, Mrs. Zwick’s daughter becomes disturbed and concerned as she manages her mother’s medical bills and consults with the nurse and admits that she is unsure of how Medicare will handle the benefits in this situation. In this position, it is the nurse’s obligation to educate Mrs.Zwick and her daughter as well in regards to what they should expect after being discharged from the facility. Medicare Part A, will provide medical coverage for Mrs. Zwick’s hospital and skilled nursing care stays which will also include her laboratory tests, physician consults...

...Int. J. of Human Resource Management 18:1 January 2007 147– 158 HRM practices in Egypt: the influence of national context? Mike Leat and Ghada El-Kot Abstract In this paper we present the findings of a study which collected data on a range of HRM practices normally used in 58 Egyptian organizations operating in Egypt. The range of practices is concerned with job descriptions, recruitment and selection, training and development, compensation, performance appraisal and employment security. We examine and discuss these practices in the Egyptian context. The dimensions of the Egyptian environment which we examine include: the socio-cultural context, Islam, the vocational education and training system and elements of the economic and legal environment. The practices and approaches being used by the sample organizations appear to be the product of both culture bound and culture free influences. The main contributions of the study are that it provides much needed information on the HRM practices and approaches being adopted by Egyptian-owned organizations in the early part of the 21st century and provides support for the influence of national context on the HRM practices pursued by indigenous organizations. Keywords Egypt; HRM practices; Islam; institutional context; culture. Introduction: HRM practices and national context Against a background of the increasing internationalization of business, globalization of markets and cross-national activity by multinational...

V nekdanjih socialističnih državah z besedo tajkun označujejo osebe, ki so si v času privatizacije in uvajanja kapitalsko-tržnega sistema ustvarile veliko bogastvo in mrežo poslovnih povezav. ...pipelines are running parallel from Karachi to Mehmood Kot. One pipeline is of crude oil and meeting the demand of PARCO refinery while second pipeline is of High Speed Diesel (HSD) and third pipeline is of (HSD & Kerosene) running from Mehmood Kot to Machhike(Sheikhupura).PARCO supply petroleum products from Shikarpur, Mehmood Kot, Faisalabad & Machhike to oil marketing companies (OMCs) as per their share, standard and demand. The purpose of these pipelines is to meet the country demand for petroleum products at various locations all over Pakistan. In the peak season when OMCs have high demand and receipt of product from PARCO pipelines are less, there is a need to enhance the flow rate of oil inside the PARCO pipelines to fulfill the demand of OMCs. This could be done economically by the application of drag reduction theory. So by injecting drag reducer, dragging of the oil inside the pipeline could appreciably be reduced thereby improving the pumping of oil. Introduction Supply Chain is the network of Organizations that are involved, through upstream and downstream linkages, in different processes and activities that produce products and services delivered to the ultimate consumer. Supply Chain Management is a term used to describe the management of the multiple organizations to get a product from the manufacturing stage into the hands of consumers [1-3]. The Supply Chain involves a variety of tasks such as crude procurement, logistics...

(Burke and El-Kot,2009). Every extreme worker has his or her own reason that motivates him or her to work for longer hours. According to a survey, the most popular belief suggests that people love the intellectual challenge and the thrill of achieving something big. This is followed by high-quality colleagues, recognition, compensation packages and for power or status. (Hewlett and Luce,2006). Due to the above reasons the scenario of working longer hours has become a common thing among the managerial and professionals. (Brett and Stroh, 2003, Hewlett and Luce, 2006). A study by Galinsky et al (2005) showed that generally, 20% of workers in the US work more than 49 hours per week. Likewise, a research carried out by Daly (2001) showed that the managerial and professionals are the groups that have practiced working longer hours which is 50 hours a week. However, the latest findings by...

...ADOPTION OF HUMAN RESOURCE INFORMATION SYSTEMS IN THE CIVIL SERVICE (A CASE STUDY OF THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE) CHARLES MAUTI BUS-1-7364-2/2011 A RESEARCH PROPOSAL CARRIED OUT AT THE KENYA METHODIST UNIVERSITY AS A PARTIAL FULFILMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE AWARD OF DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (HUMAN RESOURCE OPTION) JANUARY 2016 CHAPTER ONE 1.0 INTRODUCTION This chapter gives the background of the study, statement of the problem, research objectives, and research questions, significance of the study, limitations of the study and scope of study. 1.1 Background to the Study Before the introduction of the HRIS too often, personnel files were not well kept. Storage rooms were often overcrowded and security was inadequate. Indexing procedures were not always in place and file tracking systems were often lacking. Many times the HR personnel in public service had no means of finding who had a file at any particular time, and files could not be retrieved without a major search being launched. This Human Resource information is key to making effective strategic decisions. Therefore, the use of Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) has been advocated as an opportunity for human resource (HR) professionals to contribute to organizational strategy. According to Lengnick-Hall, Mark & Moritz (2003) HRIS is a system used to acquire, store, manipulate, analyze, retrieve and distribute pertinent information about an organization’s human resources...

...1 Teenagers’ Reasons for Listening to Music and the Students’ Perception of the Effects of Listening When Completing School Assignments1 Jennifer Adriano Educational Leadership Doctoral Program Thomas DiPaola Educational Leadership Doctoral Program Center for Research and Evaluation The Alan Shawn Feinstein Graduate School Johnson & Wales University 1 Paper presented at the 42nd annual meeting of the New England Educational Research Organization, April, 2010, Portsmouth, NH. 2 Introduction Music is a significant part of our lives. People listen to music on the radio at home and in their car; they watch music videos on television or hand held technology; they buy CDs or download music; and they attend concerts. People also hear music in stores, restaurants, sporting events, and doctors’ offices (Schellenberg, Peretz, & Vieillard, 2008). Music is very important to many adolescents and they spend a considerable amount of their time listening to music. One study with N = 2,465 adolescents ages 13 and 14 found that participants listened to music for an average of 2.45 hours per day (North, Hargreaves, & O’Neill, 2000). Music has become a personal accompaniment in many teenagers’ lives because of the availability and popularity of personal music listening devices. In 2009, Jaffray released the results from the 18th semi-annual survey, “taking stock with teens.” The team of researchers surveyed approximately N = 1,200 students, with an average age of 16.3, in...

...KOT TASK 2 FINAL PAPER According to medicare.gov, Medicare insurance coverage is governed by federal and state laws, and the decision of whether a service is covered, or not, is made by Medicare. Moreover, insurance coverage/decisions are handled by local companies that process Medicare claims. These companies will make the decisions of whether procedures, and/or interventions recommended, are medically necessary, and whether that particular service is covered in their area (Medicare.gov). Scenario# 1 A1. Medicare Part A Explaining insurance coverage to Mrs. Zwick, and her daughter, must be done in a simple and informative manner, keeping in mind that insurance coverage is a complex process that often varies. However, below are some pointers to be addressed during the Mrs. Zwick’s discussion. Medicare Part A, A.K.A. hospital insurance, insures hospital services days (inpatient care, general nursing care, meals, medications, semi-private/private room if medically necessary, and supplies), and up to 100 days of coverage in a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). To qualify for Medicare Part A coverage, the physician orders must include the amount of midnights (count) needed to treat the illness and/or injury. Patients must stay in the hospital for over 72 hours (admitted for inpatient medical care). Hospital stay less than 72 hour, will be considered as outpatient care, and a disqualifier for coverage. At discharge, the primary care physician (PCP) must write an order...

...Introduction The transition metal catalyzed cross-coupling reactions such as Negishi,1 Heck,2 Suzuki-Miyaura,3 Stille,4 Kumada,5 Hiyama,6 and Sonogashira7 are extremely powerful tools for making C−C bonds. These methods have been extensively used in wide range of academic areas including material product synthesis, materials science, medicinal, biological, supramolecular chemistry, catalysis and coordination chemistry. Some of these reactions are also useful in pharmaceutical, agrochemical and fine chemical industries.8 Among these powerful transformations, the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling (Scheme 1) (defined as transition-metal catalyzed cross-coupling between an organoboron compound and an organic halide or pseudo halide) is the most widely applied transition-metal catalyzed C−C bond forming reaction since its discovery in 1979.9 Scheme 1. Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction. Suzuki reaction has become the most attractive approach for C−C bond formation due to many reasons. Firstly, the mild reaction conditions and broad functional group tolerance of this transformation. Secondly, the use of organoboron reagents has many advantages such as they are inexpensive, some are thermally stable and inert to water and oxygen, thus easy to handle (industry), they transmetallate with a variety of metal compounds under exceptionally mild reaction conditions, low toxicity, good availability of diverse organoboron reagent and easy separation of boron containing by-products from the reaction...

...CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1. BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY The goal of every business is to make profits for the owners. This looks to be an extremely effectiveness difficult task unless firms discover the different ways to improve on efficiency and of their operations. Recruitment is the process of generating a pool of capable candidates applying to an organisation for employment (Gold, 2007). Applicants with experience and qualifications most closely related to job specifications may eventually be selected. Organisations become concerned when the cost of a mistake in recruitment is high. According to Armstrong (2006) the aim is to obtain, at a minimum cost, the number of suitable and qualified candidates to satisfy the needs of the organisation. The organisation attracts candidates by means of identifying, evaluating and using the most appropriate sources of applicants. El-Kot and Leat’s (2008) observation is that recruitment begins with advertising existing vacancies As already mentioned, this can be done internally or externally. In this instance the researcher was interested in external sources and processes as organisations in the Province are currently experiencing an undersupply of suitable candidates. Company policies related to the employment of relatives may influence its recruitment efforts. Currently more and more companies implement anti-nepotism policies that prevent the employment of close relatives, especially relevant to placement of candidates in the same departments...
