...Tragic Hero Kurt Cobain A tragic hero is a person who is an inspiration or a hero, but they too have their flaws. Kurt Cobain was a tragic hero because his music spoke to those who were going through a tough time. However, his drug use was his mistake and his depression was his flaw. In the end, he made an impact on society when he was alive and after his death. Kurt Cobain’s life was his art and music, he put his pain into his lyrics, his drug use and death caused his downfall, and the impact his music had on society after his death makes him the tragic hero he was. Kurt Cobain, born February 20, 1967, in Aberdeen, Washington, excelled in art and taught himself guitar when times turned rough. “His parents divorced when he was nine years old. He went to live with his dad and his sister went to live with his mom” (Biography). As a child, he was troubled and angry and got in trouble with the law for his drug use, drinking, and vandalizing property, even getting into fights at school. After his parents married his step-parents, he lived with other relatives and friends. During...

...2015 Research Narrative “Okay, so I get to wake up today and have another day he doesn’t.”- Dave Grohl, band member of Nirvana What would music have been like in the 1990s without Kurt Cobain? Or maybe the question to ask is, “What would music be like today if Kurt Cobain was alive?” The grunge movement was brought to life by the front man of the band Nirvana, Kurt Cobain (Kurt and Courtney). He was what most believed to be an iconic man in the 1990s for the music genre known as alternative rock/grunge. Kurt Cobain passed away on April 5th, 1994, in his home, when he was only 27 years old (“April 05”). He recently started a family with his wife Courtney Love, who was also a musician in a band called Hole (Kurt and Courtney). Kurt was in and out of rehabilitation centers for his drug addiction, and soon before his death had, what people considered at the time, an accidental overdose in Rome. The day his corpse was found an electrician reports his findings. The police and fire department arrive. Pictures are taken of the scene, and then handed to detectives to enhance the report of the incident that took place on the street of Lake Washington Boulevard. As news spreads of the musician’s tragedy fans gather at his house and a memorial service is performed in his honor (Kurt and Courtney). I now tell you the story of how and when Kurt Donald Cobain’s body was found. An electrician, Gary Smith, from the company Veca Electric arrives at the lavish home of Kurt Cobain, as previously...

...When Rock arrived on the music charts in the 1950's, a merging of African-American and White music, it made a huge impact on society. As a general rule I am not heavily into music, but I was drawn to Rock for some inexplicable reason. It is just the music I like. This genre will be difficult to write about because the origin of Rock is unclear; there are traces of Rock's style back into the 19th Century. It is also a very broad subject and I will have to compress a lot of information into as few pages as possible. Be that as it may, Rock is, in my opinion the best music genre on the charts. There is so much information on Rock that I will have to have questions I want to find the answers to about the music. My first question will be, "What instruments are commonly used in a rock band?" This will not be hard to answer as it is a very easy question that has a definite answer. The next question will be, "Who were the first artists to produce Rock music?" This is also an easy question were I will discuss the first Rockers. Continuing on, my next question will ask, "How was the term Rock and Roll' created, and by who?" This may turn out to be a hard question to answer because I am sure there a multiple answers. "Has Rock become more or less popular since its inception?" will be my next question. For this question I will have to look for a survey or poll of some type and present its data. My final question will be, "How has the Music been changed over the years and who changed...

...With over 100 years in the shoe industry, Converse has been a brand with many different associations. It has marketed and positioned itself in numerous ways and has managed to maintain a high level of brand recognition with all ages and walks of life. It was the World’s first performance basketball sneaker. It was worn by the entire Army Air Corps in WWII. It was the official sponsor of the 1984 Olympics, and it was the shoe that Kurt Cobain was famously wearing when he died. It would be hard to argue that any other brand has been independent enough to be tied to so many market segments. This paper will provide insight into how Converse and the Chuck Taylor All Star was able to maintain its prominent position in the shoe market for over 100 years, despite competition, an ever changing market, and even bankruptcy. History Of Converse In 1908, Converse began as a rubber shoe company specializing in tennis shoes, rubber boots and automobile tires. The All Star shoe was created in 1917 as a specialized basketball shoe. It was competing with A.G. Spalding, U.S. Rubber, and Goodrich. Spalding invented the basketball as we know it today, and the basketball shoe, which included a rubber sole for traction. Previously, athletes competed in a high top shoe with a leather sole. At this time, the sport of basketball was still primitive and lacked the national prominence it has today. In 1921, Converse brought on Charles “Chuck” H. Taylor as a traveling sales representative to...

In the short period of hundred days approximately 800,000 Rwandans, mostly Tutsi’s, were killed. Even the Convention for the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide which was adopted in 1948 by the United Nations did not prevent this genocide. Not even the U.S., the remaining superpower after the end of the Cold War and a firm believer of Wilsonian idealism, remained immobile and even urged the UN to refrain from action. Therefore the main research question will be: which factors contributed to the non-intervention by the United States in the Rwandan genocide?...

...One day this spring, a psychiatrist named Dorothy Lewis got a call from her friend Betty, who works in New York City. Betty had just seen a Broadway play called "Frozen," written by the British playwright Bryony Lavery. "She said, 'Somehow it reminded me of you. You really ought to see it,'" Lewis recalled. Lewis asked Betty what the play was about, and Betty said that one of the characters was a psychiatrist who studied serial killers. "And I told her, 'I need to see that as much as I need to go to the moon.'" Lewis has studied serial killers for the past twenty-five years. With her collaborator, the neurologist Jonathan Pincus, she has published a great many research papers, showing that serial killers tend to suffer from predictable patterns of psychological, physical, and neurological dysfunction: that they were almost all the victims of harrowing physical and sexual abuse as children, and that almost all of them have suffered some kind of brain injury or mental illness. In 1998, she published a memoir of her life and work entitled "Guilty by Reason of Insanity." She was the last person to visit Ted Bundy before he went to the electric chair. Few people in the world have spent as much time thinking about serial killers as Dorothy Lewis, so when her friend Betty told her that she needed to see "Frozen" it struck her as a busman's holiday. But the calls kept coming. "Frozen" was winning raves on Broadway, and it had been nominated for a Tony. Whenever someone who knew Dorothy...
