...Alternative Vs. Traditional High schools Cheryl Zang COM/155 April 20, 2014 Cathy Smith Alternative vs. Traditional High schools Adolescents are the future of America. With this being well known, why do we as members of society often look down upon the ones that have a questionable past and have graduated from an alternative high school? This is the question that makes me wonder if we are creating a better future for society, or just creating a world that disgraces people for trying to succeed. We all know that we cannot always help the hand that we are dealt in life; all we can do is work to better our life and change our future from the life we were born into. Alternative high schools give adolescents that opportunity to make a better future and to help steer them in the right direction. Alternative schools are more valuable than traditional schools for troubled adolescents because of increased graduation rates, and the ability to make up credits. Many members of society fail to look at all the details when they hear or see the term alternative. Although, it may seem as if there are a lot of differences between the two schools, they have a lot of similarities as well. Both schools have the same requirements for students to graduate at the end of their senior year. This makes it to where just because the teen has chosen to enroll in an alternative school, they do not get any breaks in the educational requirements needed to graduate. Alternative and traditional high...

...City vs. Country Living Tired of waking up to gunshots or sirens at 3 A.M? Does the thought of crickets being the loudest noise around sound appealing? Big city living and country living both offer a place to lay down roots and make a house a home. It has always been a controversial decision when determining whether country living or city living is best, it is all based on what people’s perception of living is. But, both would require a particular type of person due to the dramatic differences each has. The difference between the city and country are; surroundings, entertainment, transportation, employment, and education. The city offers a variety of buildings of all different shapes, and sizes. The bright lights at night can be real pleasing to the eyes such as the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington or the Empire State Building in New York City, New York. People travel from all over the world to see these kinds of structures. Which leads us to the wonderful 5 mile an hour bumper-to-bumper traffic, and beautiful brownish/yellow tinted skies. There are houses as far as the eyes can see; they are so close that best friends can basically jump from rooftop to rooftop. Where as in the country, there might not be another house or car for miles. Trees or large open fields usually surround the houses; this may be the main reason for the fresh, crisp clean air. People can lie out at night and count the stars, since there are no distractions from buildings or bright lights. This...

...largest issue. Also, athletes in public schools start sports a lot later than private schools. Splitting schools and the way you split them has been talked about my tons of experts. Colleges could also be affected by decisions made. Funding is another large issue that comes about in the debate. Comparing enrollment is a very controversial argument as well. The last argument is private schools have to travel very far during tournament time. In all, private schools should not be in the same athletic division as public schools. Recruitment is the process of finding the best individuals academically and athletically to attend your school that may come from another district. This is such a hot topic because private schools can recruit top athletes and top students, and public schools cannot recruit. Public schools have to accept any athlete or student in their district-they have no control over their enrollment, as private schools do. Individuals are attending private schools for sports, not academics. “That’s why I keep telling members we can’t look at it as a public vs. private school issue,” he said. “We have to look at an open enrollment (recruitment) too.” (“Wisconsin Class War”). To solve the recruitment, experts...

...in private or public school. Home-Schooling is not an option due to the detrimental effects it would have on the child’s growth. Therapists advise parents to slowly have the child face their fears in order to overcome them. Though public schools can provide the necessary aspects of one’s education, private schools can provide more of a balanced and safe environment for those affected with this disorder. Private schools provide a smaller class size which helps the students with Social Anxiety Disorder to feel more comfortable. The schools also provide social activities...

...Private vs. Public There are many reasons private schools are academically superior to public schools. In today’s society there are different types of education that a student may receive. The choices are narrowed down into two main categories, private and public school. Many people in today’s society believe it is better to send their children to private schools rather than public schools. It is not an easy choice for parents to decide, but many parents feel their child is worth receiving the best education offered. The quality of teaching and the expectations of the students differ from the two schools. Studies have been made and prove that private schools have a higher graduation rate, student self-determination, and higher college admissions rate. In a private school a student’s self-discipline and willingness aids them in the future success of their lives. Advocates of private school argue that the education received in one of these facilities is more valuable and rewarding than any other academic opportunity. Private schools often have better grades and test scores with an above standard curriculum, but supporters of public schools feel that the students are better-rounded, both educationally and worldly, when in public schools. Generally public schools have a superior variety of classes to choose from due to the larger more diverse student population, however, private schools tend to offer more honors and advanced classes then public schools. The amount of students...

...When deciding to attend the University of Maryland, the Gemstone Honors Program was an enticing attribute. It would allow me to be a part of a smaller group as soon as I started at UMD. I decided against the larger University Honors Program because I could get lost in such a large, unspecified program. With Gemstone, I immediately was involved on campus with a well-known, prestigious group. In addition to enjoying the specificity and closeness of Gemstone, I also was very excited for the research aspect. For my last three years of high school, I was a part of my schools Gifted and Talent Research Program. I completed independent research and research with a mentor in the “Mentorship/Internship” program. I knew I really enjoyed completing research...

...Public vs Private college One of the biggest choices students make is choosing where to attend college. Students need to consider each individual college's unique characteristics and offerings, as well as the type of college before making a choice. While there are many types of schools most are either public or private. Choosing between the two can directly affect a student's learning environment. Public and private colleges have some similarities as well as differences. Public colleges are cheaper and provide more options. First, these colleges get more funding from the government and do not rely as much on tuition. This helps lower the cost for students. Second, these schools normally have large populations and more degree options....

...Keller graduate school of management | Department Store part B | Week 6 project for AJ Davis | Information from the project for AJ Davis department store. Attached in this report is all information related to the information listed from Excel. | Results from Minitab findings The mean income was less than $50,000. The Null Hypothesis: which states the average annual income was greater than or equal to 50. The number of trials (n) is larger than 30 use ztest to check the hypothesis. With the Critical Value and decision rule: Reject H0 if Z –value is -1.645. By using the z-test the one sample z: results are as follows: z -3.02 p .001 mean 43.74. The p value .999 is larger than .05, so I would not reject the null hypothesis. The p value shows the probability of rejecting null hypothesis. The confidence level of .05 shows there is enough data to support the claim that the average annual income was less than $50,000. The confidence level at 99.5% is 38.41 and since 50 are above the 99.5% confidence level shows support for the claim that the mean income is less than $50,000. The proportion of customers who live in urban areas exceeds 40%. For this 21 out of the 50 people in the data live in an urban area. This equates to .42 so my point estimate would be .42 or 42%. The Ho: p=.40 vs. Ha: p >.40. z= .29. The reject area is z> 1.645; since .29 is less than 1.645 I would not reject Ho. The p value is .386. By not rejecting this is saying there is insufficient...

...are often surrounded by criticism for destroying smaller stores which seems an ironic assessment considering the consumers themselves play such a vital role in their success. Not much is ever mentioned about the smaller stores that thrived as a result of the big stores. Big stores (chain stores) are the result of when a small store (independent store) becomes successful and is able to expand into multiple locations. They are successful for many reasons that are important to customers and smaller stores can benefit greatly by operating next to a big store. Testimony from small store owners and studies show that big stores have the potential to be a positive addition to any community including the surrounding smaller stores. Many studies have been performed showing evidence that small stores that are located near big stores have experienced increased sales as a result of an increased traffic flow of customers from the larger store. Purdue University conducted a study consisting of 101 entrepreneurs between the times of 2004-2006 asking why they decided to start a business. (Goessling, 2007) Small business owners learned of the different opportunities for small businesses afforded by big stores. One such opportunity is for small businesses to advertise and provide discounts on the back of receipts from big stores. Advertising or special discounts on the back of the receipts can attract big store customers to their smaller store. Another lucrative business opportunity...

...Economics & Ethics Ryan P. Quinn Business Society & Ethics Professor Peter J. Classetti March 24, 2014 Keynesian economics, also referred to as “mainstream” economics differs drastically from its counterpart, the Austrian school of economic thought. In a very basic sense, the two varying economic philosophies connect with and represent the two main political philosophies, (or what are known in the political realm as parties). Keynesianism is the liberal way of perceiving and practicing economics, whereas Austrian economists are much more conservative in their views on policies and procedures. Not unlike the liberals and conservatives in the world of politics, the main bone to pick with one another among the liberals and conservatives in the world of economics is the topic of government intervention. Conservative Austrian economists believe in an entirely free market, with very little to no government intervention whatsoever, (even in times of severe economic downturn and in the midst of financial crises), whereas more liberal Keynesian economists believe that government intervention is key to maintaining a healthy, growing economy with little to no possibility of collapse. These two vastly different economic philosophies not only have monetary implications, but also very significant social as well as ethical ones. Keynesian economics was developed by the British economist John Maynard Keynes who was born in 1883 and died in 1946 (Keynesian Economics, 2)....

...Candace Thackeray C. Demo ENG 100 06/08/2015 City vs. Rural Many people have debates on whether it’s better to live in a city or a rural environment. There are many differences, advantages and disadvantages of the two. It solely depends on the individuals work lifestyle. Cities have a much higher success rate for businesses. Here are some advantages of living in a city and some disadvantages of living in a rural environment. There is a big difference in means of transportation between city life and rural life. Cities have bus and train routes for people to utilize for commuting around the city, the routes also run through surrounding cities as well, making it easier to travel further when the individual has no vehicle or wants to save on gas. The cities transportation system operates throughout the day and night, making it more reliable to those traveling with extended or flexible schedules. In a rural area; homes, businesses, and shopping areas are further apart, so it’s likely to have a huge lack in means of transportation other than one’s own vehicle. Cities, having larger populations, an abundance of businesses and apartment buildings, makes it easier to find a neighbor or someone that resides relatively close for carpooling. With the distance between residences, businesses, shopping centers and the smaller population in rural areas, finding someone to car pool with may be difficult. With cities being so compacted, people have shorter distances to travel...

At the time of the photo, the Bates family of Lake City, Tennessee, had 18 kids. They now have 19. JAMES AMBLER / BARCROFT USA / GETTY IMAGES by John Donovan January 16, 2016 Children in big families get less than those in smaller families. It's just math, right? Less time with the folks than the oldest had when he or she was the only one around. Maybe fewer toys or books or games or new clothes. Altogether, with other kids in the family, there's just a little less space all around. For years, scientists have delved into whether that truth has resulted in kids who are worse off. Some have said no. Some have tried to show that it's true. http://now.howstuffworks.com/2016/01/15/bigfamiliesvssmallfamiliesamatterquantityvsquality 1/5 6/27/2016 Big Families vs. Small Families: A Matter of Quantity vs. Quality? ...Bayer Crop Science. Making an area a corporate headquarters causes an influx of upper level jobs. These jobs have higher salaries. Many of the positions are filled by internal candidates around the company which usually includes a relocation package. After employees arrive they will look for housing first. Many people are purchasing below what they qualify for, so focusing on the mean housing price is a good strategy to begin with, when starting a real estate business in the Raleigh/Durham (RDA) area. To determine if I should start my own business or buy into an established firm I should take a survey first. The survey should consist of questions concerning using a new real estate firm vs. a firm with a long history, firm with a more personal touch, average family income, school age children, commute to work distance, maximum purchase price of house, purchase time frame, and housing type. The survey will be administered via e-mail, Google ads, snail mail, and visitors’ welcome center. The sample of the survey will be determined using statistical means. The equation used to determine sample size is n= Z2 * Standard Deviation2/(Standard Error)2. Z depends on the confidence required which is 1.96 for a confidence limit of 95% and n is the sample size.
