While reading an article about the Las Vegas shooting, A name was brought to my attention. ¨Jonathan Smith¨ was the name of the man who took a shot to the neck; Only question I had was why? That day Smith took all his bravery and put it to use. As the shooting started Jonathan told all 9 of the people who he had attended the music festival to run and hold hands but sadly they all got separated. Smith directed people to the handicap parking lot. He didn't clear that many people out however, he did manage to save the lives of several people. The way the bullet gained access into his neck was the most heroic way to ever take a bullet; trying to cover several little girls who were not in cover. In the end of it all he did make it out alive and

Teachers & Weapons

...February 10, 2013 Abstract In this paper, I will explore the controversial question of whether teachers should be allowed or required to carry weapons on school campuses. The question of whether the topic should be entertained has come up time and again after tragedies occur, the timeline of which will be summarized herein. The recent tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, that devastated the nation on December 14, 2012, has wrenched this debate crudely back into the spotlight. I will investigate different types of protective instruments that could possibly be used, as well as what types are used in schools that have such regulations. I will delve into the reasoning behind states that have implemented laws that allow teachers to carry guns in school and/or at school events. Included within are excerpts from this writer’s first-person interview conducted with Maria Otero-Ball, a kindergarten teacher in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As a teacher of children the same age as those involved in the Newtown tragedy, Mrs. Otero-Ball offers a first-hand view on the changes that she and the school have made following the tragedy, as well as her views on the practicality of weapons in the school. My goals in preparing this paper are to expand my thoughts on the subject, peruse the thoughts of others, and explore the statistics to provide a better overall understanding of the subject matter to myself and to my readers. During the research process, I found that a compromise...

In Cold Blood Pdf

...In Cold Blood Truman Capote I. The Last to See Them Alive The village of Holcomb stands on the high wheat plains of western Kansas, a lonesome area that other Kansans call "out there." Some seventy miles east of the Colorado border, the countryside, with its hard blue skies and desert-clear air, has an atmosphere that is rather more Far West than Middle West. The local accent is barbed with a prairie twang, a ranch-hand nasalness, and the men, many of them, wear narrow frontier trousers, Stetsons, and high-heeled boots with pointed toes. The land is flat, and the views are awesomely extensive; horses, herds of cattle, a white cluster of grain elevators rising as gracefully as Greek temples are visible long before a traveler reaches them. Holcomb, too, can be seen from great distances. Not that there's much to see simply an aimless congregation of buildings divided in the center by the main-line tracks of the Santa Fe Rail-road, a haphazard hamlet bounded on the south by a brown stretch of the Arkansas (pronounced "Ar-kan-sas") River, on the north by a highway, Route 50, and on the east and west by prairie lands and wheat fields. After rain, or when snowfalls thaw, the streets, unnamed, unshaded, unpaved, turn from the thickest dust into the direst mud. At one end of the town stands a stark old stucco structure, the roof of which supports an electric sign - dance - but the dancing has ceased and the advertisement has been dark for several years. Nearby is another building...

Behavioural Finance and the Psychology of Investing

...CHAPTER 9 Behavioural Finance and the Psychology of Investing “The investor’s chief problem, and even his worst enemy, is likely to be himself.” —Benjamin Graham “There are three factors that influence the market: Fear, Greed, and Greed.” —Market folklore Be honest: Do you think of yourself as a better than average driver? If you do, you are not alone. About 80 percent of the people who are asked this question will say yes. Evidently, we tend to overestimate our abilities behind the wheel. Is the same thing true when it comes to making investment decisions?  You will probably not be surprised when we say that human beings sometimes make errors in judgment. How these errors, and other aspects of human behaviour, affect investors and asset prices falls under the general heading of “behavioural finance.” In the first part of this chapter, our goal is to acquaint you with some common types of mistakes investors make and their financial implications. As you will see, researchers have identified a wide variety of potentially damaging behaviours. In the second part of the chapter, we describe a trading strategy known as “technical analysis.” Some investors use technical analysis as a tool to try to exploit patterns in prices. These patterns are thought to exist (by advocates of technical analysis) because of predictable behaviour by investors. Chapter 9 Behavioural Finance and the Psychology of Investing 273 9.1 Introduction to Behavioural Finance Sooner...

But as more branding activity moves to the Web, marketers are confronted with the stark realization that social media was made for people, not for brands. In this article, we explore the emergent cultural landscape of open source branding, and identify marketing strategies directed at the hunt for consumer engagement on the People’s Web. These strategies present a paradox, for to gain coveted resonance, the brand must relinquish control. We discuss how Webbased power struggles between marketers and consumer brand authors challenge accepted branding truths and paradigms: where short-term brands can trump longterm icons; where marketing looks more like public relations; where brand building gives way to brand protection; and brand value is driven by risk, not returns. # 2011 Kelley School of Business, Indiana University. Trump Marketing

...1. Executive Summary 1.1 Brief Summary While the Trump organization continues the expansion of its entertainment/luxury conglomerate through the recent acquisition of half ownership over the sports entertainment giant The World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and its recent entry into the higher-tier water business with its new brand, Trump Ice, it’s Casinos in Atlantic City (AC) do not seem to be doing so well. With increased competition, mounting regulations, and a relatively depressed economy the overall revenue of the Trump Organization’s AC hotels are diminishing, with administration expecting lower market shares in the coming years (“Trump buys raw”, 2009) (“The Trump Brand, 2012) (“Trump Entertainment Resorts, Inc”, 2010) (Bary, A., 2011). The organization’s failure to systematically allocate resources for periodic improvements/updates to these facilities have cost it the inability to attract or retain customers. In fact, just recently the organization relinquished one of its AC properties, The Trump Plaza to its competitor, The Golden Nugget (Wittowski, 2011). This is allocation of resources is critical in an industry where customer retention is correlated to the amount of expenditure and improvements made to the facilities. This slump in the organization competitive performance has been the case for quite some time. The Trump Organization has repeatedly fell at the brink of filing for bankruptcy – due to high leverage, low liquidity, and poor operating performance...
