...Individual Learning Styles and Competencies • Did your personality spectrum profile and competency results surprise you? Why or why not? Yes, the personality spectrum profile and competency results did surprise me in some ways. With my personality spectrum profile I never really thought I was that much of creative/organized type. But I like that I have the right things in mind. The career field that I want to go in I have to be creative and have a way to keep track of status of my work. A lot of the strengths on the competency results were right on but one I was surprised about was being strategy type of personality. The reason it surprises me is that it requires a lot leadership skills. When I read that a natural born leader was part of being a strategist. I feel that I learned my skills later on in life. But I do see myself taking charge in chaotic situations. • How can you alter your study techniques to take advantage of your particular abilities and competencies as determined by these activities? ...Individual Learning Preferences 1) Describe your strongest dimension on the personality spectrum. According to the personality spectrum, I am cataloged as an organizer and also a thinker, which describes me pretty much in my practical and controlled panning manners. I tend to be organized in my studies and very dependable. Everything I do is systematic, meaning one step at a time in an organized manner. My only negative aspect is that I can become predictable sometimes in my activities but conservative none the less. I am also very detailed on my life and also very disciplined when it comes to serious matters such as economic situations. Organizing is fundamental for all my actions and I can’t really think of another way of doing things. 2) Describe how each practice activity reinforced or contradicted something about yourself The first practice revealed to me something that I didn’t really consider, that I can type and express more confidently with my right hand then my left hand; so that puts a different perspective regarding learning what is really my style and knowing my competencies. This reinforced my learning and expressing methods but declared me as predictable since I’m better “with my right hand than my left”. The second activity guided me to select the correct response to the activity on question. Selecting which input I considered to be correct for the assignment. The third activity describes a situation which we must point what is “Kristen’s” learning preferences...

...Literature Review: Our thesis aims to evaluate work based learning approaches in developing acute skills for nurses in critical care wards. In this section of the literature review, we will discuss policies in the nursing profession, case studies and various approaches to work based acute skills learning programmes. For our purposes we conducted a literature search using popular medical databases and terms such as ‘acute skills’ ‘learning programmes’ and ‘critical care learning’. Our review highlights on the several important approaches to work based learning ranging from reflective practice to experiential learning and work based formal practical training to enhance professional skills. A learning programme for acute ward nurses responsible for caring of critically ill patients has been the central focus of nursing practice development. According to Coad et al (2002), a work-based learning approach has been found to empower ward staff with the necessary skills of nursing and the authors studied the efficacy of a five-day competency based high dependency skills course in enhancing professionalism and quality of care in nursing. The aims of comprehensive critical care are developing leadership potential and enhancing networking opportunities for nurses within critical care and acute ward areas. Critical care is the most challenging aspect of nursing care and acute skills in nursing are enhanced not just by work-based learning programs but also from first hand nursing and emergency...

Birmingham 27th-28th January 2005 The Competencies for Next Generation Employability Eamonn McQuade, Deirdre Hogan, John O’Donoghue, Theresa Maguire, Eamonn Murphy. Programme for the University Industry Interface, University of Limerick Conference Theme 3: Working with employers Abstract It is generally accepted that employees will need to broaden their knowledge, skills and competencies through a lifetime of learning if they are to remain employable, and if enterprises are to maintain their competitiveness in a knowledge-based global economy. However, identifying and developing skills and competencies for next generation employability in Ireland is a challenging task. The Programme for University Industry Interface (PUII) is an action research project, established in 2003, to determine the skills and competencies required by Irish Industry and to develop learning models that will facilitate their delivery. This paper presents the outcomes of an action research methodology based on a Community of Practice model (COP), which addressed the issues surrounding competencies for next generation employability. It proposes a competency framework which integrates the four key categories of skills: Business, Technical, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, and presents a set of recommendations for individuals, employers and higher...

...A RESEARCH PAPER ON COMPETENCY BASED LEARNING SYSTEM INTRODUCTION We are in the starting stage or learning revolution. ...Week 2 Assignment 2 Learning styles and competencies The learning styles and competencies outlined by Merlette in chapter two of Keys to Effective Learning are a way to help distinguish what kind of learning style fits you best. The results I got from these exercises were very surprising. I thought I was going to end up a bodily kinesthetic learner, but after completing the exercises, I found that you are not limited to only one learning style. In fact, according to Howard Gardner, everyone has eight different intelligences. Depending on the person, some of these intelligences are more developed than others. Finding a solid way to study and to do whatever works best for you is key to being effective at learning. After doing the exercises and reading chapter 2, I found that the best way for me to be effective at studying is to stay active. When I am doing school work at home I try to take a break every 30 minutes. Doing this helps me stay focused and not zone out. When I study I like to make flash cards and look at them while I walk my dog. Doing these things makes it easier for me to retain information as a kinesthetic learner. Knowing your abilities and competencies is essential to being proficient in anything you choose to do. If you know your abilities and competencies, you can work on them and practice different exercises to make them further developed. Doing this will help you in a professional environment because if you have confidence and you know what your strengths...
