Demarse The Learning Contract The academic credit internship program (Mgt 4801) is designed to contribute to your intellectual and ethical growth by providing a reflective opportunity to apply classroom knowledge and a practical perspective from which to evaluate past and future classroom learning. The learning contract sets for the academic expectations of the internship and guides the internship experience. The school, experience provider (host) and the student develop the learning contract goals to ensure that the student receives an appropriately rigorous learning experience. The learning contract protects the student from serving as an unpaid office assistant, and insures that experience provider will work with the student who takes the experience seriously and conducts him or herself professionally. As you complete the learning contact please pay close attention to the instructions regarding alignment of the objectives. The first objective supports the School of Business learning goals; the second objective related to discipline-specific knowledge you seek to gain from the internship and the third objective addresses your personal aspirations for the internship. Our relationship has always been very collegial and professional. He was very supportive of my investigation into an area of intersection between preventive health and health protection – unintentional injuries. ...During my internship at Wright County Health and Human Services, I participated in a multitude of activities to enhance my learning experience. Per the learning contract, there are five activities that I chose to discuss throughout this paper. I chose to write about these five activities because they were insightful, and I learned a lot from doing them. Agency’s Confidentiality Policy One activity I chose to complete in my learning contract was to read and follow Wright County’s confidentiality policy within the first week of my internship. This activity falls under objective one in my learning contract: Demonstrate Ethical and Professional Behavior. This activity connects to objective one because it helped me to better understand the expectations at Wright County. Additionally, this activity made me engage in professional behaviors. By understanding their confidentiality policy, I am engaging in professional behavior because I am following the agency’s policy. Social workers must understand their roles and responsibilities in not only the social work profession, but also their role at the agency. To complete this activity, I did the training on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA). This training taught me the importance of confidentiality. In addition, my supervisor and I discussed...

...Week 11 & Week 12 The last two weeks are the busiest weeks to me because since my internship program is near the end, I need to complete all the tasks before leaving. During this period, my main task is to prepare an intern farewell event during the last time to chairman, CEO, Director and all the senior general managers of my company. It is also a ceremony to send off us. Besides, I am given a task to write a report of learning experience within the internship program to my company’s supervisor, finding the information of competitor’s make-up classe, explore myself in working process of warehouse working, attend GST workshop and take part in DWMY Friends & Family Day. Interns Farewell Event Our company hopes that there is a session for all of us to enjoy before ending the internship program, so that we are informed to organize interns’ farewell event with all the other interns from different department during the last day. Therefore, it is the only opportunity for me to work with all interns during my internship program. Due to the limited time of preparation, all of us keep discussing to come out the idea in doing it well. We prepare the decoration, invitation card, performance, video together. It is a task that needs the cooperation of each of us to complete. From the process of preparation, I learn how to dealing some matter with the superior, how to communicate with people and how to work in a team. Although it is very tired, it is the most interesting...

...EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS OF CHARACTERISTICS ASSOCIATED WITH ACCOUNTING INTERNSHIPS James H. Thompson Associate Professor of Accounting Central Washington University 2400 S. 240th Street, Des Moines, WA 98198, USA. Phone: 206-439-3800 x3839 E-mail: jht@cwu.edu Abstract Internships are a popular element used to enhance accounting education. Although previous studies have considered internships, many have addressed enhancement of subsequent academic and professional performance. The purpose of this paper is broader and examines several characteristics of accounting internships: the frequency of participation, eligibility requirements, process for securing internships, level of participation, availability and amount of academic credit, area of assignments, nature of post-internship requirements, and benefits to students. Two random samples, one in 1998 and one in 2003, of 100 accounting programs were analyzed in the study. For each program selected, the survey was mailed to accounting program administrators. Responses were collected by fax. The results of this study should be of interest to accounting students, faculty program administrators, and practitioners. Gaining real-life knowledge of accounting tasks and obtaining insight regarding career planning were the two most important benefits identified. Future research should consider the perceptions of accounting students and practitioners. Introduction Internships are a popular element of accounting education. Supervised practical...
