New Policies in Effect

...Resources Director Subject: Attendance and Leave Policy Date: November 29, 2012 Effective January 1, 2013 Harbor Shack will be implementing an attendance policy. Employee absences cost U.S companies millions of dollars annually, according to the Creative Business Resources. All employees are expected to arrive at work as scheduled; consequently this keeps the restaurant running smoothly. Failure of employees to report on time has caused tension among other employees and decreased productivity. Habitually absent/tardy employees have become a burden to the company and the rest of the dependable staff. We feel it is necessary to put into writing a policy that addresses the chronic absenteeism and tardiness, along with tracking and monitoring absences. Along with this we are also offering a good attendance incentive of paid time off. Attached is the new attendance policy for all employees of the Harbor Shack. Signed acknowledgment forms are due back to the human resources department no later than December 14, 2012. If you should have any questions please contact the Human Resources Department. Harbor Shack Attendance Policy Effective January 1, 2013 POLICY: The purpose of this policy is to provide a standard of attendance and punctuality for all Harbor Shack employees. Because reliable staff is vital to the operation of the restaurant, reliable and consistent attendance is a condition of employment. PROCEDURE: Absences: Employees are expected to arrive at work...

The reason for this is that if the situation is not handled appropriately then other employees will not take the policy seriously In addition to the policy not being followed employees will not take their job seriously because they assume they can get away with their improper actions. The reason for this is that the other band offices will lose respect for authority members because of their lack of consistency with other staff members .Send Bob on a leave of ambience: Sending Bob on a leave of ambience will be very beneficial for both him personally and the Band Office. The reason for this is that it would allow Bob to relieve stress by either professional or personal ways, such as anger management. By Bob leaving, he will be able to get healthy mentally and heal from all the negative effects stress has had on him. By using this method, the Chief will be able to make an example out of Bob but also allowing him another chance. Bob is very cuticle to the flow of the company and allowing him stress leave would allow Bob to learn from his mistake. Labor Law Cases

...accordingly and that they are treated well. The petitioner signed the affidavit but refused to go to the City’s Prosecutor’s Office to confirm the veracity and contents of the affidavit as instructed by management. That same day, as she refused to go to the City Prosecutor’s Office, she was ordered by the hotel management to turn over the keys to her living quarters and to remove her belongings to the hotel’s premises. She then filed a leave of absence which was denied by her employer. She attempted to return to work but the hotel’s cashier told her that she should not report to work and instead continue with her unofficial leave of absence. Three days after her attempt to return to work, she filed a complaint against the management for illegal dismissal before the Arbitration Branch of the NLRC in Baguio City. In addition to that, she alleged underpayment of wages, non-payment of holiday pay, service incentive leave pay, 13th month pay, night differential and other benefits. Peter Ng, in their Answer, argued that her unauthorized leave of absence from work is the ground for her dismissal. He even maintained that her alleged of underpayment and non-payment of benefits had no legal basis. He raises a new ground of loss of confidence, which was supported by his filing of criminal case for the alleged qualified theft of the petitioner. The Labor Arbiter ruled in favor of the hotel management on the ground of loss of confidence. She appealed to the NLRC which affirmed the...

Case Joey

...I. POINT OF VIEW We took the point of view of Joey de Belen, the supervisor of the cold storage depot. It is appropriate to choose him since he has a degree in business administration and he had firsthand experience of the problems in the company. It is also his decision if he will continue to work for the company. II. PROBLEM ANALYSIS Joey cannot decide whether he should go back to work after his leave or to resign because he encountered many problems and issues during his time as the supervisor of the depot. Because of the unstable financial condition of the company, the workers compromised to work half time for half the pay so that they will not lose their job and at least bring some income to their families. Everything went well at the start but then theft incidents began to happen. Joey was then assigned as the supervisor to “clean up” the depot. It can be seen that Joey is a task oriented leader, he failed to fix the relationships in the workplace and this resulted in tardiness, absenteeism, and decreased productivity. When he asked his higher ups for support they did not respond and were uncooperative. His actions made his subordinates unhappy and it worsened to the point that he was threatened by some of them. III. Problem Statement How would Joey de Belen shift his leadership style in order to improve his relationship with his co-workers under the Cold Storage Depot Section? IV...

...During the last three months of my position as office manager, I have noticed some changes for the worst amongst my employees which appear to be a result of Jessica’s leave of absence. My office provides one secretary for every two members of the executive team. Jack Snyder assists Ralph Alane and Jessica Hilo, and Ruth Disselkoen supports Samuel and Frank Daley. The main difference between the teams is that Jack’s team has a full time administrative assistant, while Ruth’s team has a part-time assistant. Jessica’s work has been assigned to Ralph and Frank Daley for the duration of her leave, which I believe has put the workload of the teams out of balance. As a result, Ruth has begun to take shorter breaks and use overtime to complete her work. However, this has resulted in her being frequently exhausted on the job as well as receive complaints about the quality of her work. Jack, on the other hand, has been frequently late and takes longer breaks than allowed; he also frequently seems to have little work to do, although what work he has done was more than satisfactory to the team. To alleviate these issues I propose the following changes: First of all, both teams should make an effort to separate Jessica’s workload from their own. Secondly, Ralph should complete his normal tasks in the morning and assist with Jessica’s work once he is finished. Thirdly, Frank should complete Jessica’s work first and his tasks in the afternoon. This way Jack can complete Ralph’s assignments...

Business Policies and Procedures

... * Vacations * Leaves of Absence * Travel Allowances * Expense Reports * Overtime Vacations All employees will be eligible for paid vacation leave. The use of vacation time will begin on the first day of employment and the amount of time allowed will be based on the number of years of full time employment. This policy will not be allowed to those employees who are on an unpaid leave of absence. To schedule vacation time, employees must submit a completed vacation leave form to their supervisor at least one month before the expected time of leave. The following should be taken into consideration before requesting vacation time: * Employees should make certain that they have enough vacation leave available to fulfill the dates requested. * All request must by approved by the employees supervisor. * Factors such as short staffing and work overload will cause the request to be denied, and the supervisor will provide an appropriate reason in this instance. Vacation time will be paid at the employee’s normal rate of pay, and overtime pay will not be included. If the employee’s vacation time falls during a holiday, that day will not be included in the time taken off. Leave taken beyond an employee’s available vacation balance may be unpaid unless otherwise required under state or federal law. If employment is terminated, any unused vacation time will not be paid.
