1. Pranatipat: In short, this papasthanak means to cause violence upon someone or something, this can be caused by our physical or mental activities. An example would be deliberately calling someone names or hunting other animals as an activity. 2. Mrushivad: This papasthanak means speaking of falsehood, or in other words lies. Usually lies can come as a result of greed, anger or even mischievous. An example would be giving someone false information, or telling your friends a lie out of jealousy. 3. Adattadana: In all, this papasthanak means stealing. An example would be cheating someone some money which was not deserved for you. Or another example would be taking clothes from a store without paying. 4. Maithuna: This means to engage in sexual activities. In Jainism, there is no space for sexual relationships because sensual desires bring bad karma. An example would be degrade a women by secretly calling her pretty or hot to your friends, all behind her back. 5. Parigraha: This means to have an attachment for articles or wealth. An example would be of someone owning more pair of shoes than they really need. For example they would have 7 pair of shoes, when, in reality, all they need for everyday work is just 2. 6. Krodha: In short, this papasthanak means to have or obtain anger. An example of this would be having unnecessary anger, for example having your favorite sports team lose and then become mad at not only the team, but also your surrounding environment. 7. Mana: Overall, this papasthanak means to have ego; ego is to be self-centered. An example would be off someone cooking just for themselves instead for everyone. Or of someone on a sports team keeping the ball instead of passing it. 8. Maya: This papasthanak means to cheat or be deceitful. A forthright example of this would be off cheating on a test, or telling someone to do something bad for you. 9. Lobha: This papasthanak means being greedy. An example of this would be of someone wanting more than what they really need. For example, when trying to gamble, one can get greedy and try to get more money than they can really afford or need. 10. Raga: In short, this papasthanak means attachment. An example would be off wanting to buy a pair of pants but finding out that it is too expensive, therefore you go to check the store every day to see if it goes on sale; that is called attachment. 11. Dvesha: This papasthanak means to have hatred to someone or somethings. As stated before, an example of this could be of your favorite sports team losing a game and you having hatred not only to the team afterward, but also to your surrounding environment, as well. 12. Kalah: This means to fight or quarrel. An example of this would be fighting with a friend or family member over nothing. Or if it escalates quickly, than that quarrel could quickly turn into something more serious, a fight. 13. Abhyakhana: Making false accusations is the definition of this papasthanak. For example, a popular in this world is to blame others for mistakes that you make. Therefore, we should just accept the truth and deal with it. 14. Paishunya: The spread of rumors or talking behind someone’s back is called paishunya. The art of spreading rumors or having gossip would be examples of this papasthanak. 15. Parparivada: This means to criticize others. An example of this would be talking bad about someone’s physical physique, their style or their mental stability, too. 16. Rati-Arati: Being pleased or displeased with trifles. For example, when we get something new, we life it, but after a while, once it gets old, we start to dislike it. 17. Maya-Mrushavada: Spreading rumors or scandals, which is almost the same as paishunya. For example, when telling a lie without knowing, it isn’t as bad as telling a lie while concisely knowing that we telling this lie. 18. Mithyatvashalya: Believing in false doctrines. An example of this would be the false weight loss commercials on TV where they “claim” you lose weight quickly, but is all just a false idea where they are taking your money.
