Life of Endurance

Endurance is something we all go through. Every day we as humans come face to face with a challenge that must be endured. It could be as simple as going through a boring class or doing the last sprint after a long football practice. Enduring could also be going through a life changing situation. As a kid, moving into the United States from a foreign country with my mother wasn’t easy. I was constantly facing challenges. Being in a different society and not knowing what anyone was talking about forced me to endure, to push myself to the limits, and to step out of my comfort zone. When war breaks out in Kabul and Leila’s family tries to flee from their hometown, a sudden flash of hope came, they realized as long as they were together things will eventually settle. “‘There’s nothing left for us here,” Babi said. ‘Our sons are gone, but we still have Laila. We still have eachother Fariba. We can make a new life’” (Hosseini, 189). After a series of tragedies the family manages to endure and believe there is a brighter future out there, war would not end their legacy. After Laila’s daughter Aziza was born, Rasheed made the decision to send her to an orphanage because they could not afford her. Laila frequently sneaks and goes on visits to see her, although the consequences are major when she gets caught. “ Then the whips came down and the athenas sliced through the air, and she trudged home, bloodied, without so much as a glimpse of Aziza. Soon Laila took to wearing extra layers, even in the heat, two, three sweaters beneath the burqa, for padding against the beatings. But for Laila, the reward, if she made it past the Taliban, was worth it. she could spend as much time was she liked then - hours, even -with Aziza.” (Hosseini, 321). Dealing with a strict government such as the Taliban and Aziza living elsewhere, Laila went through pure physical abuse because of the mother and daughter bond she has with her, a love only a mother would understand. “Laila never would have believed that a human body could withstand this much beating, this viciously, this regularly and keep functioning” (Hosseini, 323). The motivation that love brings gives Laila strength and helps her endure up, and past her limits.

Times of war tear families and people apart. there's nothing worst than losing the ones that are closer to you. though acceptance love and hope. the main character and citizens of Kabul in the novel A Thousand Splendid Suns, endured through some of the biggest hardships
