...There is a tall, rooted cherry blossom tree nearby a beautiful stream of running water in a small remote village in Vietnam. It has been there since 1992. A Vietnamese lady planted the tree dedicating it as a reminiscent to her deceased daughter. This tree she planted developed over the years. It grew more and more each year. It started as a little seed to an eight-foot tree. The branches grew to be so long that it wept to where it barely touched the water. The branches bundled with white cherry blossoms blooming everywhere. The tree beamed brightly no matter if it was day or night. The tree was the most beautiful tree in the entire village for the next 12 years. In 2004, a catastrophe had hit this remote village. A never-ending storm had hit the coast of Vietnam. Rolling sounds of thunder and streams of rain continuously occurred every day. It was soon devoured by the gusting wind blowing away all of the little cherry blossoms. It blew away the life and ambiance the tree once had. Not too long after this storm had chaos broke out in the village where a westernized country tried to take over the village. ...this painting really make it an exceptional piece to admire. The tree trunk and branches would be similar to any other tree had the artist not used great detail in her lines. The stream is flowing full in the beginning of the piece but as it goes in the distance it gets narrow. The artist also used great linear perspective with the way the trees are lined. They aren’t in a symmetrical line but staggered to give the realism of a real forest. The color used really depicts a full lush forest at its greenest. The light however seems that maybe the sun has sat or that the trees are so thick that little light shows through. Personally to me this is a personal place that the artist visited often and felt inspired enough to share it with everyone. To use the colors that she did seems to me that maybe she preferred it at a certain time of day. The green in the trees also says that she preferred this to the color of the fall leaves. The color of the stream was one of the concepts that pulled me in with this painting. The texture of the oil on the canvas also is a big part of this painting as it gives it almost a realistic feel that makes you want to touch it to see if it is real. ...Looking back, I remember running through the long lush grass pretending we were at battle and trying to take cover. I would always find myself behind the old oak tree in our back yard. This was my favorite spot. The thick trunk, like a bodyguard, protected me from the imaginary bullets that flew towards my body. I would lean against the hard bark and for some reason it was comforting to have something sturdy to lean on.
