7th November, 2012. A Lost Treasure Losing someone very important in your life can be like losing a delicate part of your body memories of some person held at a very high esteem can be heart breaking. I reminisced the last day of school so eager to get back home to the very person you want to see, touch, hug and are ready to have fun with that special person and just for you to get there and behold that person is long gone, taken away from you by one thing you hate so much and are scared of like hell, Death.
I remembered that very day when Dave walked though that very door into our home, looking so healthy. So interested to know who he was seeing him for the very first time in my life, so I walked up to him and introduced myself to him as Halima and from that moment I made a new friend. We became so fond of each other and did everything together, so I asked him who is was to us on a fateful day when we both went swimming at a hotel close to our home but all he did was to ignore the question which I asked him, but I still maintained for an answer and I finally got one from him saying that he was my far distant cousin through my maternal side. Though I was aware of a long time cousin of my but to my greatest surprise it was Dave I was short of words at that very moment so I asked him what was the call of visit, and he was silent for twenty minutes, and then responded with a sad mood all over his face saying that he came for a two weeks check up with our family doctor because he was diagnosed with cancer of the liver for about two years now. But with the help of some medications and regular check up with the doctor and specialists from different health institutions, he could sustain a stable healthy condition and continue with his regular day-to-day activities and life as a young growing man. But at this point in time his medical state had become a critical matter, which required a professional medical attention from an expert. I was so scared for him and what might be the outcome of the result from the test he was going to do tomorrow.
Finally the day came for him to go take the test we were both nervous about it but he had to be strong and I also had to be strong for him too. After I waited for some hours for Dave, lastly he came out. The an expression on his face I could not interpret at any point so I decided to ask Dave what was the doctor report, and he said that they had to undergo an operation in the one week from now. So we went on informing both parents about the outcome of the test and his parents decided that he should go on with the operation, if that is the only possible solution for him now but he was so scared to death thinking about the different possibilities that might happened if he underwent with the operation, which were if he was go for the operation would he survive it or would he give up the ghost during the operation process. But we gave him a positive thing to think of, which was he was going to for the operation and come back for his welcome back home party after the surgery.
The day came for the surgery and he went in for the operation, while we all waited out for him to come out. We waited for over six hours for him and finally the surgery was over and he was out from the surgery room and taken into a ward room from special patient. He was still on bed for four days in a row and on the fifth day he woke up saying “I love you all” and went back to sleep but this time did not get back up from the sleep. Then the doctor informed us that he has passed away. All members of the family were going through a hard time trying to believe that Dave was no more. There was mourning, grief, pain and trauma in the entire family. Dave’s parents had lost a precision one and a wonderful child at the same time it was too much to bear for them. His mother had a heart attack when she heard the news of her son’s death, making everyone worried about her health condition. As for me I didn't know what else to do at that point in time I was lost trying to find myself and put everything together back. I felt as if I had lost everything my missing treasure was nowhere to be found. Weeks past, Dave death was trying to wear off from the family as a bad memory and bring in all the wonderful things he had done in his life. But for me I could always keep him as if he was still living and close to me at all time.
Reality is one thing everyone has to face in life, which I have come to realize and also accept the fact that he is gone and gone forever. Death is what empties a big filled space in you or rather takes someone very special away from you. No matter what happens in life we all must face death and lose someone who is important and has great value to your life.

Knights Templar Research Paper

...The Lost Treasure of the Knights Templar INTRO: Over the centuries the Oak Island mystery has eluded intellectuals, researchers, historians, and treasure hunters alike. Off the shores of Nova Scotia lies Oak Island: one of several islands within Mahone Bay off the eastern Canadian coast. “To the casual observer, the 140-acre island appears like many in this part of the province … [however] the story of this island's past is replete with mystery, intrigue and even tragedy.” (Morgan) Since its initial discovery in 1795 many have tried to reveal what was buried deep within the island. However, to this day the content of the famed “Money Pit” remains unknown. There is plenty of speculation of bountiful riches and unmeasurable wealth ranging from...

Heinrich Schliemann's 'Mistakes In Lost Cities Lost Treasure'

...I believe that mistakes are very important when it comes to making discoveries. There have been many times that this has been proven. This is my opinion is because if nobody made any mistakes think of what questions might we have? Would we know what gravity is? Would we go to school everyday and and learn new things? Or maybe we would not be taught at all because nobody would want to make a mistake? These are all questions we may be curious about but never know the answers to if we didn't make mistakes. In the first passage “Lost Cities, Lost Treasure” there was a man named Heinrich Schliemann who was a dishonest yet still likeable man who would dig for valuable treasures. Schliemann had left for troy to find more treasure. While he was there he met a man named Calvert who was the opposite of him. Schliemann wanted to dig his way which led to both men losing money. Schliemann erased clues to the past of Troy and took all credit for anything found. Calvert was almost forgotten for finding ancient Troy. But because of the mistake that Calvert thought he made of trusting Schliemann, the two had found Troy. As said in the passage “Together they did prove that their had been an ancient city called Troy” and this discovery has led to more and more....

Oak Island's Mysterious Money Pit Summary

...where believed the treasure of Captain William Kidd was buried. The hunt for treasure on Oak Island has been going on for over two hundred years. In 1795, evidence of digging was first found by 3 young men. First they hit a platform of old Oak logs. At 93 feet they hit something hard-possibly a treasure chest. The next morning the shaft was found flooded with sixty feet of water. The miners dug 110 feet down. It was only 2 feet from the pit when tones of water burst through. In 1849 they recovered several links of gold chain. While the drilling was going on, someone noticed that the water in the pit was salty and rose and fell with the tide. So the men went in search of hidden inlet of the sea and they found tones of coconut fiber and eel grass on a stone floor which acts as a sponge to soak up and filter. The conduit fell 70 feet down filled...

...There was once a young prince and his brother who were next in line for the royal throne. Before they could be king, they had to each pass a challenge. They were given a steel sword, a shield, and full body armor to complete the first challenge. The oldest brothers’ challenge was to steal a chest full of treasures, such as diamonds and gold, which was guarded by three young dragons. The prince left for the dragons den at once and began to ransack the entire place in search of the treasure. He first searched in the treasure room. He first searched in the treasure room because that was the most logical place to look, but all he found was a few scattered gold coins around the room. He then went to the living area of the dragons den and looked around a bit, and then he saw it, a large chest held together by gold. The prince went over to the chest and opened it up and looked inside. He saw thousands of sparkling diamonds and shining gold bars. Just as he closed the chest and prepared to lift it up, he heard something flying through the air, so he turned to see a large, black tail coming towards him at high speeds, He just had time to crouch down as the tail flew over his head and crashed into the wall behind him. When the prince pulled himself up, he stood facing three angry dragons. The largest one was black, which is the one that tried to kill him. The , flew away. and said to him “I am sorry for this brother” and he stabbed him again, but before the price died he asked his brother...

Bago Tribe Term Paper

...I have wondered before if I will have the chance to see the real beauty of life that I can’t find here in the busy city. But at last, after almost two hours of travel, I have seen what I am looking for; the clean river, the cold breeze, the leafy trees and the welcoming smiles of the Bago tribe, such an amazing treasures behind the mountains. Maybe it is the treasure in the end of every rainbow I see. For the pot of gold lie in the hearts of the tribe, their culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of the people. Despite of the developing municipality of Suyo, their culture remained; it is not damaged by the changes. They made sure that their culture will not die by letting the children learn in mind and heart their wonderful culture. The smiles in faces of the children showed that they really love what they are learning. It is soothing to the ears to hear their angelic voices; their ethnic dances made me forget the contemporary dances and how they beat their bamboo instruments made me feel the magic of nature. Even if I cannot understand what they are singing, I felt that they sing to show how proud they are to be part of the Bago tribe and to be thankful of all the blessings that God had given them. They gave thanks that day through a ritual, and a pig was butchered that I think is a sign of their respect and belief to the Lord. Every song they have sung reflected how they live their life in the past and now. I am amazed how they used bamboo cylinders as water containers...

Oak Island

...Oak Island's Money Pit Mystery Who will be the next treasure hunter to squander all of their money in search for a possible treasure on the bottom of a pit when hundreds of people tried without success for centuries to reach the bottom of the "Money Pit"? Is the next treasure hunter going to be able to stop the flow of the water that is preventing anybody from reaching the bottom of the pit? No one has been able to stop the water and solving the mystery for over two hundred years. Yet engineers, rich people, divers, builders and even a U.S President tried very hard to discover what is buried on the bottom of the pit. Is it possible that it could be Captain William Kidd's treasure? Could it be the crown jewels of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinetter? In my research paper I will first be explaining about the history of the mysterious "Oak Island "Money Pit". Next I will be explaining some of the techniques that were used to dig up and dry up the "Money pit". Finally I will present three theories of the content of the pit and how the seawater keeps seeping in the pit. From what i been reading although many interesting things have been found in the pit which are supporting the idea of something special being buried there, no finding up to this point has been conclusive. Everything started when a mere boy was hunting on a deserted island off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada in 1795. In "Mystery Island Baffles Treasure Hunters" by Edwin Teale, he explains how, "One day, early in the...

The Mutilation of a Book: from Page to Screen

...Lost in Translation Historian, Robert Shickel, says; "A great novel is concerned primarily with the interior lives of its characters as they respond to the inconvenient narratives that fate imposes on them. Movie adaptations of these monumental fictions often fail because they become mere exercises in interior decoration". Highly acclaimed dystopian novels are constantly being adapted into movies. Fans of these novels are excited that they will finally get to see their favorite dystopian worlds brought to life, but then they are disappointed when the films do not adhere to the books. It is understandable when the film varies slightly from the original novel, because directors are not expected to fit a three hundred to five hundred page story into a two hour film. However, when a book is converted into a movie, the filmmakers neglect to include essential parts of the novel in the film. Elements such as character development, narration, and point of view are lost in translation. The underlying themes in dystopian novels are lost when adapted to the big screen, because filmmakers are more concerned with the entertainment value, such as the romance and action, more than the message and actual story the novel originally presents. A major problem that filmmakers face when adapting a novel is the limit that the camera has to present literary points of view. The point of view— or narration— in the novel can offer insight into a characters mind as well as...

Story

...One day Peter found a treasure map. He decided to find this treasure, and have some adventure! Peter set off. He walked a long way and finally reached a forest. There he met Lion. “You are strong and courageous,” said Peter to Lion. “Will you come with me on a treasure hunt?” Lion agreed and joined Peter. The forest was dense and dark. Peter was afraid but with Lion by his side, he made it through. When the two finally reached the mountain they met Eagle. “You have excellent vision and can alert us to dangers,” said Peter to Eagle. “Will you come with us? We’re looking for a treasure.” Eagle agreed and joined Peter and Lion. The mountains were tall and craggy. Lion slipped but Peter was swift enough to give him a hand and pull him up. Eagle with his sharp vision watched every step they took. Soon, they reached the valley below where they met Sheep. “Will you join us in our search for treasure?” Peter asked Sheep, “and keep us warm when it’s cold?” Sheep agreed and joined Peter, Lion and Eagle. A cold wind swept across the endless meadow. They all huddled against Sheep who kept them warm and cozy. The four finally reached the desert where they met Camel. " You are called the ship of the desert,” said Peter to Camel, “will you help us get across and join the treasure hunt too?” Camel agreed. All exclaimed in surprise. Peter, Lion and Sheep mounted the camel and happily set off across the vast desert with Eagle enjoying the spectacle from above. Camel began galloping and everybody...

...Mohannad Zawi Mr. Mackay ENG-4U0 October 31st, 2011. The Fight for Survival Can Truly Lead People to Do Things They Wouldn’t Do When it comes to The Road by Cormac McCarthy & Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, it takes a lot to compare the two. Can these classic literary novels truly be compared? Luckily, you will find just how much they can be compared as you read this essay. In order to consider just how similar these 2 books are, consider the following: The main characters of their respective books ultimately aim to survive their landscapes, both of the main characters are on a journey for the betterment of their lives, and both of these novels portray similar themes. While one book has a seemingly miniscule cast and the other a large ensemble of roving buccaneers, they still manage to be comparable, and through their similarities a better experience is enjoyed for fans of the books. Both main characters of their respective books ultimately aim to survive by dealing with harsh environments. We understand that The Man from The Road has to deal with a barren, apocalyptic wasteland, and with this situation he uses his knowledge & wits to survive this harsh environment, for example, he carves makeshift bullets out of wood in order to scare off attackers: “While the boy slept he sat on the bunk and by the light of the lantern he whittled fake bullets from a tree branch with his knife, fitting them carefully into the empty bores of the cylinder and then whittling...

Learning Curve Theory

...considering transferring operations of the pizzeria to a family member. Mario has elected to supervise the business decisions made by the family member with regard to reductions in customer wait times and lost sales. Three scenarios are simulated: adjusting the number of tables allocated for two and four guests as well as adjustments to wait and kitchen staff, choosing to implement new technologies, and a choice between adding seating space or a takeout option. If Mario sees that the decisions made by the family member are sound, then he will hand over operations of the pizzeria at the end of two months. Because measurement in service industries is subjective (Pati & Reis, 2007), progress will be measured in lost sales, lost customers, and daily operating costs. Guests typically enter the restaurant in parties of two to four. The decision was made to set the number of tables designated for parties of two to 8, leaving the remaining 10 tables for parties of four. No change was made to the numbers of wait or kitchen staff. Increasing these numbers would have increased daily operating costs, making any possible losses more difficult to bear financially. Decreasing these numbers may have placed extra burden on the staff members, making efficiency difficult. While some sales were lost (see fig. 1), the losses were kept at a minimum. Based on the results indicated in the simulation, Mario was pleased with the numbers, and elected not to make any changes. Fig. 1: In the...

Genre Analysis

...Nina Hagen Wrtg 1010-20 Using the Genre of a children’s story to articulate with monsters In Gordimers story “Once upon a time” uses the genre of a children’s story to articulate monsters in a suburban family by using the theme of a fairytale that clashes with the theme of a childrens story so he can use “monsters” in a suburban family. Gordimer uses phrases that kind of gives him the excuse to go in and articulate the monsters into the genre of a children’s story. Gordimer knew how to put everything in place to make it be called a “children’s story” Also, she the setting of the story in a good neighborhood, just people trying to be safe and you could kind of tell reading into the story a little disaster is coming, it is nothing brutal but it works for a children’s story type of theme. A fairy tale genre always ends up kind of automatically clashing with children’s stories. Gordimer is using a fairytale by saying in “For when they began to live happily ever after they where warned by that wise old witch, the husbands mother, not to take anyone of the street” This sentence right here is kind of what you get out of a fairytale genre and a children’s story genre. When they mention “happily ever after” You usually hear that phrase all the time in childrens stories or children type of things. For example: when you are watching a disney movie, which is a children’s...

Just You

...Economist and watching "I love the 80s." I like tennis, Fazoli's breadsticks and writing assignments. I value honesty, commitment, scholarship and kindness. These are hard and true facts, but there is a lot I do not know about myself. I don't know how I feel about the death penalty, I have mixed feelings about religion, and I don't know what I think about a cashless society. I have no stock answer to offer about a life-changing experience or a moment of enlightenment, and it is hard for me to give a comprehensive proclamation of who I am, for my identity unfolds more every day as my experiences grow. Since I am only 17 years old, life has a lot of unfolding to do. I dislike saying "I am trying to find myself" because my identity is not lost, it just needs more uncovering. Luckily for me, what I love to do and want to be helps me uncover more about myself. I want to be a writer. I may not end up a professional writer but I will always write, even if I am the only one interested in my work, because writing is my self-reflection. When writing, I sometimes get worked up into such a fervor that I barely know what I am saying. I just let my fingers fly over the keyboard and the ideas pour from my head. When I go back through the jumble of unpunctuated ideas, I notice a theme running through the writing. I don't try to put a moral in the theme, but invariably it happens. Evaluating the theme and the rest of the writing helps me interpret my own character and decipher my at times...
