Everybody loves Facebook nowadays. Everywhere I go, I could see people logging in to their tablets and phones just to update their status and check their notifications and messages if someone had liked their pictures. To tell you honestly, I am one of them. We, teenagers, love socializing. We want to know what the latest trends are going on and also, sharing our moments to our friends around the world. But what are the other reasons why we love Facebook? Why we can’t help ourselves but check our profile every day?
First, Facebook is the most popular social networking which has a million users worldwide. It has features that browses users to make friends. At the same time, we can post pictures and update about ourselves every day. This can help keeping in touch and stay connected to our old and new friends from different places.
Second, Facebook is the best place for advertising products. Like me, this where I find products which it wasn’t available in our places. We could find affordable prices with a good quality. But, we should be careful in choosing the right seller. A few of those were not legit.
On the other hand, this might be the cause on a so-called “Facebook Addiction”. You find yourself restless not checking your profile for just a day. I tried to experience this. Being depressed on Facebook is other major problems this days. You’re getting depressed when you wouldn’t have enough like s in your post or when someone bullied you through harsh comments or post.
Even though Facebook has its disadvantages, it is on us on how we manage it or handle it. More importantly, Facebook is not my first priority in life but my studies. Facebook is just a leisure time to relax after the hell week and accomplished numerous of projects.

Liking Is for Cowards, Go for What Hurts

...Jonathan Franzen’s essay: ‘Liking Is for Cowards. Go for What Hurts’(2011), he talks about the problem with actual love in our modern ‘techno-consumerist’- society. Franzen starts out by describing the almost infatuated love he has had throughout the years for new gadgets. He considers his ‘relationship’ to his old Blackberry as having been almost like the sort of relationship you would normally have to another person. Furthermore he points out, that our technology has become extremely adept at creating products that correspond to our fantasy ideal of an erotic relationship. To support this statement he draws attention to the fact that the word ‘sexy’ almost always is used to describe the latest gadgets on the market. Our beloved gadgets don’t ask for anything, but they always obey our smallest winks -instantly. These sexy gadgets substitute the natural and real world, that’s indifferent to our wishes and personal needs. Problematic, Franzen thinks. A related phenomenon is the commodification of love. If you love somebody you should buy stuff for them, whether that would be diamonds as a symbol of your everlasting love or an automobile for Christmas as a symbol of your big wallet. Another nauseating tendency is Facebook and the verb ‘to like.’ To like something on Facebook – and in general, is like a commercial substitute for loving. I must say, as a frequent Facebook user I am embarrassed. There is this term of abuse, a ‘likehunter’ that is being used about a person who is obviously...

...about we personify and threat our new technology equipment we have with us every day. The ultimate goal with technology is “to replace a natural world that is indifferent to our wishes – a world of hurricanes and hardships and breakable hearts, a world of resistance – with a world so responsive to our wished as to be effectively, a mere extension of the self” (p.2.55-61). Then Jonathan Franzen starts debating about technology and it is trouble by real love, and has no choice to trouble love in return. The way Jonathan Franzen engaging the audience is creative and very interesting. He is admitting that he is an old man at 51 years and he have become really tired of the use of technology, but even though he admit he have become addicted to his smartphone Blackberry and almost speaks like the smartphone was his girlfriend “Over the years bloom had faded from our relationship (..) I’d developed trust issues and some doubts about Pearl’s very sanity” (P. 1. 17-21). Franzen speaks about love, and the ‘love’ he speaks of is about the love to the technology the humankind have created. The message is: “The world of linking...

Liking Is for Cowards

...What Hurts “Liking Is for Cowards. Go for What Hurts” is an essay by Jonathan Franzen. It is based on his speech at Kenyon College, Ohio, USA. And the essay was published in The New York Times, May, 2011. “Liking Is for Cowards. Go for What Hurts” deals with the differences between peoples care and love for consumer technology and real life, such as love and nature. Jonathan Franzen starts by talking about his relationship to his smartphone. He is impressed how far the technology had advanced over years. Jonathan Franzen mentions that the social websites, like Facebook, has substituted the way to live the real life. It represents the obsession with the internet, smartphones and other things that contribute to the construction of our façades. People are afraid of their emotions and feelings and being hurt, scares them. Therefore they want to stay behind their computer screen, where they can be safe and keep a distance from the real world. He thinks that people have a desire for consumer technology, because this technology gives them other things which purpose is to make them happy without asking for anything, but instead gives them all they need. All the hating comes from love, it’s not the technology which is the problem, it’s the human reaction which is the real problem. We personify objects to make them likeable, they give us much without we’re giving back, as many see like a perfect relationship. As Jonathan Franzen mention, the primary purpose with technology is to replace...

The person I chose to interview is my best friend Susan, I have known Susan for about 10 years now and one thing I know about her is that she loves attention and loves taking pictures. I believe Instagram was made for her. Susan first learned about Instagram sometime in 2011 being that Instagram started on October 6th 2010 so she wasn’t too late in signing up like the rest of us. Technology does not ask for anything, we can do what ever we want with it without getting into a big argument as in ‘real’ relationships, and all things considered technology creates a perfect world where the key figure is the self, says Franzen. He points out that love will be troubled by the techno-consumerism, but technology will also be troubled by real love. Why is that? One of the things Franzen are focusing on is the action ‘to like’ on Facebook, which he says: “(…) is commercial culture’s substitute for loving.” (p. 9, l. 83) Nowadays people...

The popularity of using online social networks as a mean of communication has spread very quickly among the online users. It has almost become a daily activity in many people’s life. This phenomenon sparks much debate about the adverse effects of social networking. Facebook has good things and bad thing about it that need to be heard. The first and perhaps most disturbing problem would be a rapid growth in radical and hate groups. Cyber criminals love the popularity they receive on Facebook. In support of the above fact, a researcher claims that the number of hate groups on social networks rose by 20 percent last year (Reuters, 2010). Examples of anti-social groups on Facebook include “National Kick a Ginger Day” and “I Love Curry Bashing” (Reuters, 2010). In the case of the first group, the idea of establishing a National Kick a Ginger Day group was derived from a group of people who do not favor children with fair skin and red hair (National Kick a Ginger Day, 2008). Should We Use Fake Identities in Social Media

...and social information. Some famous platforms would be Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. There are billions of profiles found in these platforms and this show that numerous amount people out there are quite active on social media. Lately, there have been issues that came up regarding fake identities on social media. Fake identity is intentionally forging your own identity or others for certain reasons especially in terms of personal. In 2010, a documentary titled “Catfish” brought a true story based on fake profiles on Facebook (Peterson, 2013) . New Schulman fall in love with a beautiful young woman’s Facebook picture and her voice over the phone, which turned out to be a middle-aged wife and mother. When asked the reason of her act, she mentioned that she was diagnosed with schizophrenia and she felt lonely. Schulman decided to turn the documentary into a show and reveal all online relationship fraud to create awareness on fake identities used on social media. In my opinion, fake identities should not be used on social media because it is a crime offence, it is not an ethical act to perform and much worst it creates unnecessary troubles for teenagers as they are the ones who are extremely active on social media. Faking identity is a serious crime offence in all the countries. Sometime back in 2011, local United States online mail (Stevens, 2011) reported news of a 41-year-old woman who created a fake Facebook profile of her ex-boyfriend who is a narcotics detective...
