...A formal suit, a pair of delicate high heels, black coat on the chair. All these indicated that she was an office lady. Drinking a cup of Starbucks while skimming through the documents, she pulled the beautiful long black hair gently from time to time. She might work in the office not far away and have some tasks to deal with, which should have been finished in the morning. In the light of the exhaustion shown on her face, I thought she had to put up with the great work intensity. Tired and sleepy, she had no choice but to take the coffee. The headphones, I thought, were supposed to keep her away from the outside instead of for a joy only. At that time, a handsome man patted her shoulder and she took off the headphones, smiling and sighing. Men's hands holding one piece of pizza and two bottles of water, the man took a...

...Male Mentors in Schools Kaplan University Tracy Lindsey Male Mentors in schools “Men make up ninety percent of the prison and local jail population, and they have an imprisonment rate fourteen times higher than the rate for women.” (Tsai and Scommegna, 2012). Ernesto isn’t a part of this jaw dropping statistic, but he is a mentor success story. Ernesto is a kid from urban Los Angeles that was having a rough time at home and performing at school. Due to his difficult home life, he was at risk of not graduating, which his teachers recognized and made him aware. He was then admitted into the HBO Mentoring Program in which he began to improve. Shortly thereafter his work ethic began to slip due to home issues as well as other factors. In return all program members provided him “extra support and encouragement” along with his mentor being there every step of the way building his confidence. With this support Ernesto began getting great reports from the teacher and he went on to take the GED pre-test receiving a sixty-two in writing and a sixty-one on social studies, which is outstanding. After all the time and effort invested Ernesto graduated. (Lore, 2002). This one success story can speak for many and really paints that picture that many children need support, encouragement and motivation to empower them to want to succeed in the end. Ernesto is just one I speak of but, troubled young men are prevalent in countless communities and many households, which across the U.S. the low performance...

...In Stephen Crane’s “The Open Boat”, Crane demonstrates his idea that man cannot even attempt to best nature by the isolation and trials of the men in nature, the hardships that even the best of men face, and the lack of understanding of nature while isolated in the sea. Stephen Crane starts off the story by leaving the men in isolation from the world, a test, which they fail, if they could best nature without help except for their abilities as humans not connected to nature. The men, from the beginning of the journey feel despair. Even though they rowed for so long all the men discovered “that after successfully surmounting one wave you discover that there is another behind it” (Crane 604). The men knew from the beginning of the journey towards safety, that the waves in the sea, an example of nature, would best the men from its endurance. The men depended on the wind that nature provided them because they rode in a dingy that “man ought to have a bath-tub larger than the boat which” (603) they rode in. Second, the men cannot reach the shore by any means. Even though the “light-house had been growing slowly larger” (607), the men never reach the light-house. The lack of ability to reach the light-house shows that the men are not in touch with nature, in this case the sea, leading to their inability to reach the island. Lastly, the man cannot converse with the other men on shore, showing nature’s ability to disrupt man’s methods for communication. The men seemed dazzled and confused...

...Two men, dressed in denim jackets and trousers and wearing "black, shapeless hats," walk single-file down a path near the pool. Both men carry blanket rolls — called bindles — on their shoulders. The smaller, wiry man is George Milton. Behind him is Lennie Small, a huge man with large eyes and sloping shoulders, walking at a gait that makes him resemble a huge bear. When Lennie drops near the pool's edge and begins to drink like a hungry animal, George cautions him that the water may not be good. This advice is necessary because Lennie is retarded and doesn't realize the possible dangers. The two are on their way to a ranch where they can get temporary work, and George warns Lennie not to say anything when they arrive. Because Lennie forgets things very quickly, George must make him repeat even the simplest instructions.Lennie also likes to pet soft things. In his pocket, he has a dead mouse which George confiscates and throws into the weeds beyond the pond. Lennie retrieves the dead mouse, and George once again catches him and gives Lennie a lecture about the trouble he causes when he wants to pet soft things (they were run out of the last town because Lennie touched a girl's soft dress, and she screamed). Lennie offers to leave and go live in a cave, causing George to soften his complaint and tell Lennie perhaps they can get him a puppy that can withstand Lennie's petting. As they get ready to eat and sleep for the night, Lennie asks George to repeat their dream of having their...

...Name Teacher English 101-Section 10 November 2014 Cause of Sexual Assault on College Campuses Over the last few years, the media has been filled with news broadcasts and reports of sexual assaults on college campuses. According to an article written by Wayne State University’s Dr. Antonia Abbey, “The term sexual assault is used . . . to describe the full range of forced sexual contacts . . .” This includes “. . . touching or kissing; verbally coerced intercourse; and physically forced [sexual behaviors]” (118). While these events are highly publicized when they occur, they happen much more frequently than realized. Young women are the primary victims of these attacks; reports regarding the assault of men are much less frequent. Many things contribute to why sexual assault and rape happen on college campuses. Alcohol consumption, personal psychological factors, and social influence all play a major role in why and how these events occur. The central factor in all rape and sexual assault cases is the victims are not adequately informed of the dangers beforehand. With that said, it is not the victim’s fault they were abused, but had they been proactive to remove themselves from the situation, things would have resulted differently. Alcohol plays a major role in sexual assault. Every campus has some aspect of Greek life—fraternities, sororities, and other elite social organizations. It can be noted these organizations are mostly known, and classified, according to the parties...

...Dafo once said it is the ability to state the obvious that best displays the mind of man.” The boy furrowed his brow and cocked his head. “Is there a problem?” “Uh… I think it was… M something… Martok or Mouyin who said that.” Grae watched the young man intently, giving the young man no hints with his body language. “Mouyin, the boring one. He actually said that… I think.” “You have passed my first test. However Mouyin’s career as a scribe, while not as exciting as warrior poets Dafo and Martok , was far more eventful than you give him credit for. And I must say as a scribe I am pained by your answer, Mr. Ores.” Ores squirmed a little his seat. Grea then asked a series of mathematical questions, Avin was tripped up on the values of Plates and Ton (1,000 and 1,000,000 respectively) and again when having to quickly add, subtract, and then multiply. Then for the next hour, questions about geography, philosophy, and...

...Rachel Gronli ENG 1010 Reflection First Draft The storm raged that day on my way to work. The air was cold, unsympathetic and wet with rain. As I drove the thirty minute drive to my work, the wind seemed like it was going to blow my car off of the road. I had gotten little sleep the night before so the thought of going to worked pricked at my insides all day before finally leaving to go work the late shift. I knew it was just going to be one of those days. The days where it’s hard not to constantly glance at the clock. Where you hope for the best in customers but know that you’ll be experiencing the worst. That day though there was a chance occurrence. Something that might seem small to some, but to me, it meant a lot . Customer service, to me, is something that I for the most part, don’t particularly enjoy doing. Although in the past few years I have come to terms with the fact that as a student, having a job working with the general public while trying to get through school is unavoidable. Safeway was only the second largest corporation that I have worked for. In the past I had worked at Target, where I became so tired of dealing with angry customers that I began to hide from them. I’ve worked a lot of jobs, all of them completely different while at the same time they all had one thing in common, working with the general public. Throughout these experiences I felt that I had seen everything. The good, the bad, the ugly. The really ugly. But this job. This was something...

...with Clint on a new project. Bobby had an assistant, Chui who had been his right hand man for many years. One day, Chui fell ill and Bobby took over the routine check of books and accounts. He suddenly saw the names of two men whom he did not recall seeing on the site the day before marked into the attendance book. He thought it was a mere error of entry but to make sure, he summoned the two men to come and see him. When the two guys showed up, Bobby was amazed to see that they were totally unabashed. They admitted outright that they have been absent the day before and that their chums had clocked in their attendance cards for them. They were even brazen enough to put forth a number of points to justify what they had done. According to them, attendance at work did not necessarily mean that the progress would be faster. The guys need to time out and rest in order to throw themselves with renewed vigor into their tasks after their leave days and they could work hard to compensate for the day lost. The productivity would be higher. And they had never let Bobby down, had they? This had been a system drawn up by the men and everybody knew about it, seeing 2 BUS B368 Business Issues and Ethics it as an incentive to their work or even a bonus. Bobby was aghast. To make matters worse, the phone rang at that time. It was Clint. He wanted to check out with Bobby about the expenses and asked him to file the site accounting report. Bobby was at a loss as to what to do. He wondered how...

...The beginning of my story zeroes in on two men speaking in a dimly lit room about something but you cannot hear them just yet. Both men are in their thirties wearing business casual clothing holding files and have worn out expressions on their face. When the scene finally focuses on them the man with soft brown skin and wide eyes speaks with frustration. His name is Ezra Jacobs and he wants his partner, Chad Devins to help him break their suspect. It should then be revealed that they are indeed police officers. They want the suspect to confess to the crime and the motive. They continue back and forth with dialog about who will interrogate their suspect Charlie, before deciding that it will be Chad Devins. When the officers enter the room their suspect is a young woman with brown hair, in a plain white tee shirt that is soaked in blood. She looks up at them and pulls back her arms to reveal that she is handcuff to the table....

...The article I ended up picking and reading about was about a star National Football Player Aaron Hernandez and article was called Aaron Hernandez Trial: The Defense Rests. It is about of course Aaron Hernandez whom is 25 years old is charged with killing his friend Odin Lloyd who was dating the sister of Aaron’s fiancé. The man who died ended up being shot 5 times in a pit near Aaron Hernandez’s home North Attleboro. The Prosecutors ended up stating that Aaron Hernandez motive was about Mr Lloyd talking to people at some Boston Bar that were not of the liking of the Accused. The defense gave reasons like Hernandez had just signed 40 million extension, so he had no reason to be part of this murder. The accused are trying to also put some doubt by saying that the police has some sloppy investigations done. The legal experts have been saying of late that there is some doubt and what is helping the accused is that the murder weapon pistol has not been located along with no legit witnesses of the shooting coming forward. There is not much of a feel of which side is winning so this outcome could go either way. A doctor on the behalf of the defense, say that two other men were on some serious drugs like PCP and might have committed the crime since it is has been told that PCP can cause violent stages. Unfortunately Hernandez DNA was found on a shell casing in a rental car, but the defense state it came from gum. Shayanna Jenkins said she was told to give money to Earnest Wallace a...

...periodic waveform of any speech. A normal man speak in frequency around 120Hz while a normal woman speak in frequency around 200Hz, this is baseline to categorize a person male or female [6] [9] [12]. 3.3 Fused Model Fused technology uses MPCC and certain booster method to get obtain values then it evaluate values for particular gender [6]. 4 Methodology In this paper we are going to analyze gender of a person. We have taken recorded voice as logical input. Speech samples are based on different emotions i.e. angry, happy, sad, and neutral with different Styles, Tones, and Volumes. My 10 year experience working directly with at-risk youth in a school setting, help me gain a drive to facilitate young people in minding their family strife. My belief is that the dysfunctional and fractured home life is at the core of the delinquent youth. There is no greater satisfaction, than assisting a young person and their family through chaos and developing a plan to having a healthy relationship. I believe that a healthy family promotes a sound mind and body within a person and is an intricate piece in becoming a productive citizen. In order for me to be competent in the counseling role, I need to acknowledge and recognize my strengths and weaknesses. Strengths that would help me in the counseling field are primarily centered <?n my genuine "want" for people to do well and be productive for themselves. With that belief I continuously focus on the positive attributes of a...

...Manhood and its Manliness vs Your Basic Guy It has been known guys have a different point of view than a girl, but do guys really have to go past the limit of certain things to get through it all? In Dave Barry’s essay he states many things saying guys like neat stuff and like taking on pointless challenges. His tone is also in a joking matter for his essay, meaning not everything he says is serious. It’s probably there for comedy relief. Many of the things he says may be true but this doesn’t account for every guy out there. Though it might have happen sometime in a guy’s life doesn’t really mean it’s every day in their life. In his essay he has it broken down into three sections stating guys like neat stuff, really pointless challenges and do not have a moral code of some sort. Guys liking neat things doesn’t really mean like something that is clean like he states. It’s more mechanical base for most guys but there are some guys fascinated by other things than just cars and technology. Some can be interested in art, food, read and much more. That is a bias thing that most people think that guys find neat. When coming to challenges guys don’t back down from one any matter how stupid or meaningless it is. They like to be first or like to prove they are better than others. Yes, there will be some guys out there doing pointless challenges that make no sense at all. Though there are some challenges out there that guys would take seriously and try their best to do well at. For...
