Manage in a Foreign Land

Globalization is the growth in international business where we see the integration of economies throughout the world. A thorough understanding of a country’s culture will greatly facilitate globalization. Basic understanding of a country’s beliefs, language, attitude, communication styles, customs, relationships, values and work ethic are necessary in making a smooth transition of the kind this assignment refers to. This kind of cultural information is essential for developing an effective and realistic global strategy. To begin the transition, a team must be selected. It is important to select the right people for this team. We must first begin with conducting interviews. To begin the interviews, a manager may want to survey potential candidates through tools such as questionnaires, surveys and polls. This method will allow management to gain an understanding of individuals who may be interested in playing an integral role, such as team member. Some things to consider when selecting team members are potential challenges and cultural differences, which this paper will discuss further. Management may also devise a plan to determine the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, a member may have in order to effectively determine the role one will assume on the team. In brainstorming this matter, I have come up with a few bullet points I would consider in selecting my team: * Cultural values * Passion about international relations * Knowledge of international relations * Research done by those potential team members * Poll team members from other global areas to get feedback about their experience * Pull team members from other global areas to assist with team selection * Form a team selection committee that is comprised of people who have knowledge of foreign opportunities * Select team members who are aware of events happening in South America
Starting with these points, would give me as a manager, a great lead on successfully completing the task before me.
Once my team is formed, more brainstorming would be done to get the ball rolling on this expansion. We should have determined by now the type of globalization taking place – trade, investment, franchising, licensing, etc. Knowing the type of globalization will aid us in developing an effective strategy. The overall need to strategize is due to moving abroad. We would need to consider resources and our competition. Thusly, the team would be divided to conquer each strategy.
The first thing I would do to bring my team members together to move forward with this project, would be a bonding retreat. The purpose of the bonding retreat will allow each individual to get to know one another on a more personal and professional basis. During our bonding retreat, we will also develop and breakout into our break out groups that will move this project forward. We will need to focus on formulating break out groups amongst the team that will formulate solutions to potential challenges we might face along every aspect of this transition. Some of those challenges may deal with technology, resources, competitors, meeting the demand of the new cultural, etc. So we would have to ensure that our teams are structured soundly to cover these and many other challenges. Each leader of these breakout groups must be able to apply decision making that will prove to be effective to lead each subgroup. This transition will be one that will rely on all levels of management to implement successful strategies.
It is the expectation of the leaders of this team to identify international objectives for this business operation. The question we might ask is what does South Americans intend to gain from this operation. We may also consider formulating a marketing strategy.
Let’s consider these bullet points (tools) for ensuring that our teams are structured to answer the call of making this a smooth transition: * Networking with individuals in South America to access their needs * Developing a relationship with individuals in South America who may have a buy in interest in the company * Study * Marketing strategy * Communication * Decision effectiveness
Once all of the factors for strategizing are set in place, my team and I will come together to create the timeline for completion of the transition. Establishing efficient organizational practices will greatly aid in the timely completion of this transition. With a thorough understanding of what need to be done and organizing our groups accordingly, timely completion will be successful. I think it would be incumbent upon each group to prepare individual timelines as well that will give an account of the progress being made.

Articles Of Confederation Case Study

...The Articles of Confederation served as the first form of government for the United States. However would it serve the United States advantageously? Would the articles of confederation provide viable solutions to fundamental problems the infant country faced? Although the A.O.C was able to successfully negotiate: the western land grants, and the United States sovereignty, it was unable to provide stable economic conditions due to the policies installed in the A.O.C itself. The economic conditions installed under the A.O.C proved to choke the United States government. Unable to: tax, and regulate interstate/foreign trade illustrates the critical failure of the A.O.C. The inability to tax led to a minuscule revenue generated for the use of the government; this problem diverges into many different problems. First, the inability to generate healthy revenue translates into the...

Investment in Vietnam

...Recently, Vietnam is attracting increasing interest from international investors as a promising emerging market. Some of the largest U.S. corporations such as Intel, IBM, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, to name a few, started to set foot in the country with confidence. However, investing in Vietnam still constitutes a conundrum for outsiders and horror stories have been told by former entrepreneurs who lost their fortunes and even almost lost their lives dealing with the Vietnamese Communist Party. Case in point: Trinh Vinh Binh, a Vietnamese Dutch investor who escaped from Vietnam and later sued the Vietnamese government for breach of contract and for confiscating his assets in Vietnam. The case was eventually settled for an undisclosed amount of award in 2007. The initial claim was $150 million (UNCTAD, 2007). The crucial question remains: “under the current market conditions, is it worth to invest in Vietnam?” S.W.O.T analysis Strengths. 1. However, in western cultures, land was owned (Cachola, Jean/wata); for the earliest system, the ali’i, or chiefs would provide the commoners with plots of land in exchange for taxes and portions of food they produced from different resources. The Work

...Capstone CheckPoint Audrey Richards BIO/100 University of Phoenix I personally think that many people should play many different types or roles when it comes to preserving those regions threatened by human encroachment. A lot of the environment has been destroyed and is continuing to be destroyed because of humans. Destroying of the environment not only affects us humans but it also affects animals and insects. A lot of humans do not realize that some animals help out and help keep the environment clean in some ways. Damage to the environment should only be done when there is no other options concerning the issue. All humans need to help one another keep our environment clean and pollution free. Many animals and insects suffer because humans do not help keep their environment clean. This causes a lot of animal and insect extinction. Many animals and insects have to search for their food from humans. I believe that humans are fully responsible for keeping all types of environments on this planet clean and safe. Humans can also damage and threaten their own environment and cause one another to suffer because someone does not want to take responsibility and help one another. We must realize that threat and danger to the environment is never going to stop. Some threat and danger to the environment can be caused on purpose and some of it cannot be on purpose. All humans should join together as one to keep the environment safe for everyone and...

...Porfirio Diaz headed his government towards international recognition with characteristics of pragmatism and pure negotiations, avoiding foreign conflicts and handling diplomacy in a consistent approach. He applied the Juarez Doctrine in order to reestablish relationship with nations with whom they had broken diplomacy, based on three principles: 1) to quit treaties and agreements that were signed before, essentially that they renounce to the payment of the loans given to Mexico. 2) Ask the Mexican government to restore relations and 3) celebrate new agreements and treaties in a more fair way for both parts. As we see the path that this regime crosses was of an absolute convenient diplomacy and recognition of the big nations, England, United States and France. The relationship between the regime of Porfirio Diaz and Weetman Pearson is believed that was constituted as a type of a Faustian pact among corrupted elites and greedy foreigners in a conspiracy to steal Mexico’s economic resources. As an interpretation of an informal British imperialism in the nineteenth century we can relate the political and economical context of Victorianism and Porfirian age, in which we confirm that was the golden age for Great Britain in Latin America. Porfirio Díaz Mori was born on September 15th of 1830 in Oaxaca, Oaxaca.
