Roman Pantheon

...orders were combined by the Romans when developing the Composite order, which is masterfully incorporated, not only onto the exterior columns and entablature, but throughout the structure. Comparing it to a notable building constructed using Greek practices, the Parthenon, you can also discern a similar rhythm in the placement of the columns at an equal distance from each other across the front of the building. Looking at the building head on, there is symmetry, similar to what you would observe looking at the Parthenon head on. Even the number of columns used to support the entablature (eight) is the same in each building (although six was more common for buildings constructed with Greek practices). The aesthetic qualities of Greek architecture was apparently very appealing to Roman architects, as they went out of their way to borrow and adapt much of it. Uniquely Roman At a glance, ignoring the rounded portion of the structure, one might mistake the Pantheon for one of the Greek buildings that influenced so many of its visual features; however, while the building may share some aesthetic similarities with ones built using Greek architectural practices, there are quite a few elements which are uniquely Roman. As mentioned before, the combination of multiple Greek orders into the Roman’s Composite order was something unique to them. The...

...them into the world. Landscape architects plan and design land areas for parks, recreational facilities, private homes, campuses, and other open spaces. Every state requires applicants to be licensed before they can be an actual landscape architect. The requirements vary throughout the country, but most of the time they require a degree in landscape architecture, internship experience, and a passing score on the Landscape Architect Registration Exam (“Landscape Architects” 1). Everyone lives and works in their own personal landscapes and creations. We surround ourselves with objects, ideas, beliefs, and vales that shape our personalities and who we are as people. Crafters use art to reveal passion and concerns, and they use objects and ideas that are imbedded with special meaning and purpose (“Personal Connections” 1). In my case, I’m using my artistic abilities to create a memorial garden for my Aunt’s grave. According to Katie Rosehill, a memorial garden is a place for pleasant thoughts, happy times, and remembering loved ones (Rosehill, Katie 1). At my aunt’s grave, we’ve planted different types of flowers and plants. Using landscape architecture to decorate and create a beautiful scene for our loved ones, creates peace and helps with grieving. My family would have an easier time with her death if we had a place to remember the good qualities about her, and it would create a type of peace within them. According to “Why is Art Important,” “Art is very important to our lives...

It is particularly fitting to address the worst humanitarian crisis since the end of World War II and provides a unique opportunity to focus on humanitarian architecture. I have been introduced to a big world that I have never been a part of before exploring on the Island of Aegina, and traveling to Greece, Croatia, The Netherlands, England, Italy and France: my love of architecture has...

Theme Parks

...attractants. The successful dynamism of these landscapes designed for appeal and dependable itinerary offer assurances of what can be expected, with safety and value for the expense of time and money. Generally, themed landscapes perpetuate and promote folk history and cultural traditions, as these are exploited, yet celebrated, simultaneously. Perception of space in the themed environment, without apologies, is inauthentic, but never-the-less successful, and delightful moments for the viewer. Intentionally, architecture is manipulated in order to impart the necessary factors which will aid in promoting happiness by use of ironic realism. Despite pretentions, everyone enjoys themed experiences at some level. Ambivalent designers are not undermined by the pristine and ineffectual notions the design profession propagates on what characterizes good design. Rather, the successful destination architect gives social value and art to underappreciated human elements in architecture. Human experiences and moments must include not just subtle design considerations, but the human emotional need for the bold and brash as distractions from the world of work, from which the viewer wishes to find relief. In fact, "work ethic" is irrelevant to the basic principles of successful theme vacations, and rarely coexists in any leisure or entertainment venue. Theme landscapes are new as...
