Chronic Disease Assessment.

Breast cancer is a chronic disease that I have chosen. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers found in women, besides lung cancer. Which are the number one cancers that kill more women than breast cancer per year? Breast cancer kills about 35,000 women a year. Breast cancer is a growth. That begins in the tissue of the breast. There are two types’ main types of breast cancer. Ductal cancer. This starts in the tube that moves milk from the breast to the nipple (duct), and Lobular cancer that starts in the part of the breast that produce milk.
There are symptoms you want to watch for.
-Swollen lymph nodes under the collarbone or under the arm.
- Your breast feeling warm, firm, and harder. That’s not cause by menstrual.
-Change in breast size, skin color, and itching breast.
- Nipple discharge is a symptom that you must watch for. The discharges include clear fluid, milk like fluid, and even blood.
This is why it’s important to get your mammogram done, and to know your body.
A risk factor of the disease is behavior. Behavior is a major contribute to breast cancer by 60%. Some reproductive risk factors to look at are.
-Being older when giving birth to your first child.
-Using hormone replacement or long term use of hormone replacement.
- Not giving birth, or breast feeding.
-Being overweight and family history. Genes are less than 15% to donate to the cause of breast cancer. The environment is about 30%. Between your life style choices and the environment impacts your risk of having breast cancer. The recurrence is between 25 and 50 percent after successful treatment.
Life style choices that I would make in my life to decrease my modifiable risk factor for this disease? I would try to continue to eat healthy and drink plenty of water. I wouldn’t consume more than one alcoholic beverage per day. I would change my eating habits. Learn my foods. What’s healthy? What’s not? Learning and knowing how much serving of what is necessary of what food group per day. A major life style choice that I would make is getting my breast examine or a mammogram done between 1-3 years. To be certain that everything checks out. Other risk factors that I can do, Is learning my family history. This is very important not just to detect breast cancer, but any other disease that can be prevented. Controlling my weight and exercising is one. This one I have to work a little harder on. I don’t want to just maintain weight, but being fit and active is what will help from the risk of breast cancer and any other chronic disease. I believe that exercise and meditating the mind are helpful ways to prevent disease. It keeps your mind stress free and your breathing tips to open your air ways are good technique to keep the body healthy. I would do yoga to target certain areas within my chest for exercise to keep my muscles flexible and in shape. Breast cancer is chronic diseases that can occur anytime. Keeping yourself healthy and in shapes is the key for prevention.

Week 2 Assignment 1

...What is meant by the term media convergence with regard to technology, and how has it affected everyday life? I believe media convergence with regard to technology is when some forms of media combine together. A perfect example is the internet and telephones we have our now smart phones, or the classic newspaper and television gives us the news, now even combining television and radio whether you listen to the news on the radio or listen to music both are now on the television. These forms of technology among others have affected everyday life by making it so much easier to access everything, convenience is the best way to describe this. When we just had newspapers we had to read to get the news whereas now you turn on the television and have the news read to you while you carry on with your day. When we needed to use the internet to check our e-mail or to look something up we had to go home on get on the computer, but now with smartphones you can access your e-mail where ever you are. Finally with the convergence of radio and television you get such things as the news, MTV, or just the plain music channel where its 24 hours of straight music by genre. If you have noticed all of my examples show how convenient things become when converging forms of media, by converging media it makes life easier for people who are on the go and have busy tight schedules. ...Media Convergence Worksheet Write brief 250- to 300-word answers to each of the following: Questions Answers What is meant by the term media convergence with regard to technology, and how has it affected everyday life? Media convergence means that the different kinds of media are becoming one. I believe that even though we have many forms of media it all is still merging into the main form that we us these days: technology. This has made a big effect on our everyday life simply because we now use technology for everything. Most of us no longer go get newspapers and things as such like we use to. Now everything is available for us online or through our smart phones. They even have apps on our smart phones for the online sites that have the information from the newspaper. This makes things easier in a sense. It also helps us get information without going through so many different kinds of sources and media’s. We use technology so much more these days; everything is slowly but surely becoming electronic or being able to be done/reached through technology. Traditional media is still here but it is not as effective as it used to be. Technology is the big hit of the century. We use technology more than we can imagine and it has become so much more advanced than I ever imagined. I believe it will only continue to advance and blow our minds knows where things will be in another century. I do believe that if technology keeps advancing like this that in the future traditional media...

Media

...Media convergence means that the lines are getting obscure between the traditional forms of media and they are almost becoming one. A decade ago, there were clear differences between print media, the internet in general and social media in particular. Now look, newspapers and television have websites. Those websites deliver news in almost real and time complete with moving video and feeds formatted for smart phones. Movies are now available through streaming on the internet. Television shows are also available through streaming on the internet. Viewers can participate in television shows in real time for example: The Voice, American Idol, etc. Media is converging into one big media delivery vehicle. Media convergence has affected everyday life by making it harder for individuals to find a reliable resource of news to count on for their daily news on what is happening in their community. Cell phones use to be only used to send text messages or make phone calls, television sets where used to watch your favorite television shows, the radio was used to listen to your favorite music. Now everything is all-in-one having access to any type of media through your television, on your smart phones or even on the internet. Now they even have your computers where you are able to make phone calls online. They have even made video games where you can access social media websites, listen to music, and watch movies and television shows. The constant convergence of media has allowed us to search...

Effects of Mass Media

...Mass Media Trevor Stanton HUM/186 January 22, 2014 Effects of Mass Media During the last century there were several major developments in the evolution of mass media. These developments are the evolution of the print, electronic, and digital eras which now encompass modern day media. These three eras have significantly affected American culture and economics, while ushering in a new standard of mass communications. While paper printing can be traced back to China as early as 100 c.e, modern printing did not emerge until the mid-fifteenth century. At that time, the printing press was introduced. The printing press was a conglomerate of machine duplication, rapid duplication, and faster production. These three elements were necessary for mass-market innovation. Information and ideas could now be spread faster and farther than ever before. With the evolution of the printing press, production of mass quantities at lower costs per unit became essential in mass production of other goods. This led to the Industrial Revolution, modern capitalism, and the consumer culture of the twentieth century. “With the revolution in industry came the rise of the middle class and an elite business class of owners and managers who acquired the kind of influence formerly held only by the nobility or the clergy. Print media became key tools that commercial and political leaders used to distribute information and maintain social order”. (Campbell, R., Martin, C., & Fabos, B. (2012). Media and culture:...
