Michael Mulopitan is a student currently attending at Illinois State University. He is 20 years old and both of his parents are Filipinos. Both of his parents are doctors, and he is a great student with a major in Computer Science. Michael doesn't really struggle with money since he is from the high middle class, but he confessed to me that he still feels somewhat like an outsider at ISU. He is a minority in ISU. I’d like to interview him because I am curious to know how he struggles, even though he has the funding for his education I am curious to know how he really feels since he is a minority and there is barely anyone that looks like him. According to “CollegeFactual”, 77.9% of students attending ISU are white. This means that only 22.9%…show more content… class. He greets some people as he’s walking to class but I did noticed that even though other people on his floor have class at the same time he decides to walk by himself and he really takes his time walking. I noticed that he was the only minority in class. In class he stays very quiet and he still looks really tired and not very excited. He was quiet the whole time until the teacher asked him for his opinion. Even though it looked like he wasn’t paying attention, he was able to give a really good answer. This made me think that maybe he’s just shy or maybe he just didn't really likes to participate even though he knows the material. At the end of class, 12:45 P.M. he has a small conversation with another student as he waits for the teacher who is talking to another student. After a few minutes of waiting, Michael gets his chance to talk to the teacher. He asks the teacher about extra credit, Michael missed an assignment so he was trying to figure out if there was some extra credit to make up for the missing assignment. This made me think that even though he doesn’t participates in class and it might even look like he doesn’t really cares, he…show more content… Throughout the whole day that we were walking, I realized that there were only a few minorities on campus. When we got to the library we went to the second floor where Dylan and Thad were already waiting. I asked Dylan how he felt when he met Michael, Dylan responded by saying “When I met Michael, It was really weird for me because It was my very first time being with someone who is different than me, I had seen Asians and Hispanics on TV and on my phone, but it was my very first time actually meeting one and I just felt weird. It took a while for me to actually talk to Michael. I felt weird, not because I’m a racist or anything, it’s just because this was new to me, and I just didn’t knew how to approach him, it sounds stupid but when it was weird for me since I live in a small town that’s 100% white and this was my very first time interacting with someone from a different race.” After his response, this made me wonder a lot of things, this made me think that maybe some people don’t talk to other people, and it’s not because they are racist, but because they have never met anyone from a different race than them and they just don’t know how to approach them or what to say, just like Dylan. Thad’s response was different “I like meeting new people, and even though I’m also from a small town that’s like 100% white, I didn’t felt weird, my roommate
