Practice guidelines serve as the structure by which organizations make decisions for best practices by using evidenced based research to support their decisions. The purpose of this assignment is to develop a guideline to support mental wellbeing in the workplace by providing a framework based on evidence, to provide steps to reduce the stress of work overload by reducing the amount of time spent in meetings.
Literature Support
Work plays an important role in in supporting mental wellbeing. Work can also produce negative effects such as stress. Stress in the work place has been defined as “the adverse reaction people have to excessive pressure or other types of demand placed on them” (Mental wellbeing at work, 2009, p.45). In a study completed by Happell, Dwyer, Reid-Searl, Burke, Caperchione, & Gaskin, 2013) the authors looked at the causes of occupational stress and what could be done to help alleviate those stressors from the perspective of the nurse. High workloads and unsupportive management were identified as two of the causes of stress in the workplace. In this study several initiatives were developed to reduce stress. Actions included workplace modifications and development of leaders to be able to effectively manage the workloads on their units. The ability to recognize and develop strategies to manage stress in the workplace is imperative for organizations, as it also has a direct impact on the bottom line financially. Stress in the workplace has a significant impact on absenteeism, and long-term illnesses (Robertson, 2016). Another study completed by (Bhui, Dinos, Galant-Miecznikowska, Jongh, & Stansfeld, 2016) also looked at causes and interventions of workplace stress in public, private and non-governmental organizations in London. By implementing guidelines that are focused on the reduction of stress and improving employee mental wellbeing, organizations can decrease absenteeism, retain high performing team members, and increase productivity and performance, (Reavley, Ross, Martin, Lamontagne, & Jorm, 2014). This guideline was developed, based on the evidence stated above, to help mitigate the amount of workplace stress created by excessive scheduling of meetings.

TITLE: Support of Mental Wellbeing in the Workplace
PURPOSE: The purpose of this guideline is to reduce workplace stress by reducing the number of hours meetings can be scheduled during the work week. By opening up the number of hours in the work week available for team to complete assigned tasks will alleviate the pressure of work overload and will improve overall mental wellbeing. This guideline is based on best practices found in the literature review. Preparation
1. Assess number of hours spent in meetings and the level of stress of team members feel this contributes to through the use of a survey.
2. Inform and educate all members of the healthcare team on the purpose of the guideline based on the above best practices from the literature review.
3. Inform and educate all members of the healthcare team members adhere to the guideline.
