Integrity by definition is, “the quality of being honest and fair” (http://www.merriam-webster.com). By army standard it is, “Do what’s right, legally and morally. Integrity is a quality you develop by adhering to moral principles. It requires that you do and say nothing that deceives others. As your integrity grows, so does the trust others place in you. The men and women in uniform are held to a higher standard than anyone else in this nation. When we take that first oath of enlistment, we immediately raise the expectations that others have for us as well as ourselves. We pledge ourselves, our faith, and our lives to our country, to our families and to our people. We promise to give our lives for people we don’t even know. We put on a uniform that not everyone respects; that not everyone has the gall to don each morning. We step up to the plate and go to places we never thought we’d see as kids to go fight the people we never thought we’d meet. We have the integrity and the guts to do what others say they cannot do. But if we start to lose the truthfulness that comes with the responsibility of our job, then we lose everything that we stand for. If we lose the integrity, then we lose what makes us unique from the people we protect.
