Now that you have selected a topic and generated ideas for your final paper, it is time to write a one-page proposal. This proposal should include your main idea, your plan in terms of research and writing approach, and any other information pertinent to your final paper.

One of your sources for this paper will be a personal interview. Choose a person that knows you well (one of your parents, a family member, a friend, a former teacher, etc.) and interview them about your topic. You may quote your interviewee in your paper.

Therefore, your proposal should include basic information about who you are interviewing.

Make sure that your proposal clearly answers the following: (Integrate these answers in your paragraphs; don't make a list of your questions and answers.)

What are you going to write about?
Why did you choose this topic?
Based on your topic, what are the main issues you will explore?
What is the thesis (or the tentative thesis) of your final paper?
Who are you interviewing for your paper? Why?
What are your other sources? (Remember that there should be at least two sources in addition to your interview.)
What do you intend to prove with this paper?
What, in your view, is the relevance of your topic?

I am going to write about being Asian and more specifically being Chinese in a particular part of the United States in the 21st century. I will explore the perception that some non-Chinese people have of Chinese people in the US and also explore the pros and cons, in terms of public perception, of being Chinese. I chose this topic because this would be a good study of stereotypes, as well as a venue to express the truth about my identity.
The ttentative thesis of my final paper is to find the truth about my identity, it includes three parts, the first part is the perception that some non-Chinese people have of Chinese people in the

Miss Emily Change

...the Change is Everyone feels the effects of societal change and Miss Emily Grierson is no exception. During the duration of “A Rose for Emily,” by William Faulkner, the town and its people experience great change from generation to generation. Even though Miss Emily does not leave her house for an extended period of time, she was still impacted by the negative effects that the changing society brings. From a problem with her tax exemption to the loss of the endearing pastime of china painting, Miss Emily can feel the new generation’s impact. The reader will see that most of these alterations of the town take place in Miss Emily’s historical house and her house soon becomes the prime scene for the most destructive result of these...

Character Analysis Miss Emily

...Meghan Vidrine Dr. Fontenot English 1002, Section 05 30 April 2013 Miss Emily Grierson William Faulkner makes it very clear in his short story, “A Rose for Emily,” who the protagonist of his story is. Within the first few paragraphs of the story, we can tell that Miss Emily Grierson was not an ordinary woman of her times. It is said in paragraph two that “no Negro woman should appear on the streets without an apron.” However, Miss Emily was not like the other women. The mayor of the town had “remitted her taxes.” From this moment, it is known that this is an eccentric woman. According to Random House Webster’s Dictionary, eccentric simply means “unconventional, as in behavior; odd” (223). As the story continues, it becomes known that Miss Emily believes she is above social and legal laws in her hometown of Jefferson, Mississippi. Miss Emily refuses to pay taxes, buys arsenic without telling the druggist what it is for, and eventually gets away with murder. Miss Emily Grierson refused to pay taxes. She was a known figure around the southern town of Jefferson, Mississippi. She lived in a mansion which she inherited from wealth in her family; however, she was not a wealthy woman. She once lived in the house with her father until he died. Like her father, the mayor Colonel Sartoris was like one of her “protectors.” When her father died, Miss Emily was not able to accept his death for twenty years. She lived in her mansion and would not leave her house for anything...

Miss Emily Influence On Homer

...As Emily was forced with the idea of male superiority and crushed from the loss of male dependency, she begins to rebel against the social hierarchy and slowly regain herself. “Presently, we began to see him and Miss Emily on Sunday afternoon driving in the yellow wheeled buggy and the matched team of bays from the livery stable” (Faulkner 160). This statement describes the beginning of Homer Barron and Miss Emily’s relationship. This can lead us to believe that Miss Emily liked Homer Barron. This is important because it shows how Miss Emily rebels against the idea that all women are expected to have an escort when they are with another man. This idea is important because it was believed to protect the purity of the women, so they would stay...

Miss Emily Rose / Richard Corey

...that I choose to compare were Miss Emily Rose by William Faulkner and Richard Cory by Edwin Arlington Robinson. Both stories centered on the wealth and social status of the central characters. The stories focused on the cultural time of living in the South during the Pre-Civil War. A recurrent theme in the story. Despite the family's fallen fortunes, Emily's father resists allowing any suitors to propose to Emily. Th1is gradually erodes her chances of ever being married. She eventually settles for Homer, but the townspeople see this as an affront to her noble heritage, and she eventually murders Homer and dies a recluse. Emily's inability to realize her father's death and refusal to adapt to a changing world intensify her seclusion. Miss Emily’s story is certainly bizarre, suspenseful, sad, and mysterious enough to engage the reader’s attention. She is a grotesque, southern gothic character whose neurotic or psychotic behavior in her relationships with her father, her lover, and her black servant Tobe, allows many interpretations. For example, her affair with Homer Barron may be seen as a middle-aged woman’s late rebellion against her repressive father, and against the town’s burdensome expectations but Miss Emily is then symbolic of the religion of southernness that survived military defeat and material destruction.” “The children of Colonel Sartoris’s” (Page 125) generation are sent to learn china painting from Miss Emily “in the same spirit that they...

Miss Emily The North And South In William Faulkner's A Rose For Emily

...All in all, William Faulkner paints this picture in our minds through a relationship. Not just any ordinary couple, but a couple with two power who symbolize the North and South. Miss Emily the South and Homer Barron the North. Two strong willed characters that be painted as them in a story where everyone can understand. The North stripped the South of all of it’s glory. Just like Homer Barron stripped Miss Emily of her pure innocence she once held. Faulkner clarifies the South no longer has it’s honor, like it used too. “A Rose For Emily” by William Faulkner, indicates more than a story of an old women of the south. Faulkner’s interpretation illustrates how the Southern culture has disappeared, in other words, died. Due to the fact that the South was defeated by the North, the South is no longer prosperous after the Civil War. Faulkner develops the...

...in support of the explanation which I have just offered to you?" I saw Miss Halcombe change colour, and look a little uneasy. Sir Percival's suggestion, politely as it was expressed, appeared to her, as it appeared to me, to point very delicately at the hesitation which her manner had betrayed a moment or two since. I hope, Sir Percival, you don't do me the injustice to suppose that I distrust you," she said quickly. "Certainly not, Miss Halcombe. I make my proposal purely as an act of attention to YOU. Will you excuse my obstinacy if I still venture to press it?" He walked to the writing-table as he spoke, drew a chair to it, and opened the paper case. "Let me beg you to write the note," he said, "as a favour to ME. It need not occupy you more than a few minutes. You have only to ask Mrs. Catherick two questions. First, if her daughter was placed in the Asylum with her knowledge and approval. Secondly, if the share I took in the matter was such as to merit the expression of her gratitude towards myself? Mr. Gilmore's mind is at ease on this unpleasant subject, and your mind is at ease—pray set my mind at ease also by writing the note." "You oblige me to grant your request, Sir Percival, when I would much rather refuse it." With those words Miss Halcombe rose from her place and went to the writing-table. Sir Percival thanked her, handed her a pen, and then walked away towards the fireplace. Miss Fairlie's little Italian greyhound was lying on the rug. He held out his...

...time, they may have avoided the ambush or avoided the Vbid that hit them in the bottleneck. It sounds extreme but time management plays a critical role in the Army. When you make an appointment that spot has been reserved for you. That means if you have been given the last slot someone else is going to have to wait for another one to open up. This could be one day or one month. And because you missed it someone else is still going to have to wait when they could have had that spot and been there. Hello You

...24 Hours Media Fast Most people get scared of fasts and never want to do them, but not me. I was actually very excited for this fast having any form social media. During this 24 hours fasting I have given up all social media excluding phone calls and texting. Once the fast got going, I don’t think I realized how long fast would be though. But I made it through the 24hours and I learned a couple of things along the way.                   Although I wish I could say I made it through 24hours without any struggles, I would be lying if I said that. But that should be expected from most people as no one can simply make it through something like this without a little bit of struggles.                  My mood worsened and I became more lethargic. My thoughts were shaming and I began to question taking a career path that requires I stay active on social media. I shamed myself for not pursuing a career of substance and contribution. I wasn’t using the extra time for constructive activities; I was feeling sorry for myself. I missed communicating with the people I follow. I missed sharing my disconnected thoughts on Twitter. At my lowest point, I just wanted to sign on to Facebook to read status updates from people who think the Onion is a real news outlet. I missed the feeling of tumbling down the internet’s rabbit hole at 3am, just like any good addict misses their drug of choice. The question I was left to answer was this: If I don’t share my life on social media, does Wit & Delight...

Deepwater Horizon

...Week 2 – Discussion Lou Stout University of Saint Mary March 7, 2013 Wow! To sum this tragedy up in 250 words will be hard. Stevenson (2012) tells us that a Type II error is “concluding a process is in control when it is not” (p. 429). To categorize the decisions made on that fateful day would be to say a ‘series of errors occurred’. When reading, Deepwater: Report to the President, one can easily tell that numerous mistakes lead to the events, and that BP was aware of several maintenance issues. “A September 2009 BP safety audit had produced a 30-page list of 390 items requiring 3,545 man-hours of work” (OilSpillCommission, 2011, p.6). It is apparent to this researcher that several ‘signs’ were missed when the crews were performing the negative-pressure test. They ran the test approximately three times on the main drill pipe, all of which failed; then they ran the test on the kill line, it passed, but the main drill pipe was still holding pressure, which actually means a failure (OilSpillCommission, 2011, p.107). In reading further, this was ‘put off’ as a bladder effect, when in reality; it was mounting signs of a ‘kick’. If one continues to read the Commission’s report, it is evident that numerous errors and misses directly influenced the events of April 20, 2010. The Commission goes on to say, “What nobody appears to have noticed during those six minutes (perhaps as a result of all of the activity) was that drill-pipe pressure was increasing again (OilSpillCommission,...

...The Moon and Sixpence by W. Somerset Maugham Author of "Of Human Bondage" THE MOON AND SIXPENCE The Moon and Sixpence Chapter I I confess that when first I made acquaintance with Charles Strickland I never for a moment discerned that there was in him anything out of the ordinary. Yet now few will be found to deny his greatness. I do not speak of that greatness which is achieved by the fortunate politician or the successful soldier; that is a quality which belongs to the place he occupies rather than to the man; and a change of circumstances reduces it to very discreet proportions. The Prime Minister out of office is seen, too often, to have been but a pompous rhetorician, and the General without an army is but the tame hero of a market town. The greatness of Charles Strickland was authentic. It may be that you do not like his art, but at all events you can hardly refuse it the tribute of your interest. To my mind the most interesting thing in art is the personality of the artist; and if that is...
